Undergraduate pathwaysAn undergraduate pathway is a single course comprising three or

four stages of study. After successfully completing this programme,

you will be awarded a Bachelor’s degree from Swansea University.

University FoundationThe University Foundation programme is stage 1 of the

undergraduate pathway. The transition from high school to

university is a big step, perhaps the most important in your life.

The staff at ICWS understand this, and will provide you with

ongoing guidance and support, as well as the knowledge and

skills you need. This partnership between you and the ICWS

staff will make your transition a smooth one.

First Year DegreeThe First Year Degree is stage 2 of the undergraduate pathway.

You will experience the first year curriculum of Swansea University,

but with smaller class sizes (except for integrated first year)

and more academic contact hours. The integrated first year

(in non-business related subjects) gives you the full University

Level One syllabus based in your university college, with some

additional contact hours and tutorial classes with ICWS. This

teaching and learning experience will enable you to develop

your knowledge and understanding for stages 3 and 4 of your

chosen degree.

Second Year Degree and Final Year DegreeThe Second and Final Year Degree are stages 3 and 4 of the

undergraduate pathway, and are taught by Swansea University.

Postgraduate pathwayA postgraduate pathway is a single course comprising two stages

of study. When you successfully complete the pathway you will

be awarded a Master’s degree from Swansea University.

The Pre-Master’s programme is stage 1 of the postgraduate

pathway. It is one or two semesters long, depending on your

chosen pathway. It has been designed to prepare international

students who have not qualified for direct entry to Swansea

University’s Masters’ degrees.

Undertaking the Pre-Master’s programme will allow you to adjust

to the rigorous research and independent study requirements of a

postgraduate degree and help you get the most out of your Master’s

studies at Swansea University.

The Master’s degree is stage 2 of the postgraduate pathway, and

is taught by Swansea University.

English LanguageEnglish Language is a full-time course specifically designed for

international students who need to improve their level of English

before starting undergraduate or postgraduate academic studies.

The course suits students with different levels of English competence

and is offered by Swansea University’s English Language Training

Services (ELTS). You can start an English Language course in

September, January, April, June or July.

ICWS is committed to helping you achieve your goals by providing many support services. As an ICWS student, you will have access to a variety of ICWS and Swansea University services.

Once enrolled, all ICWS students will also

student portal, which houses all ICWS

Where is Swansea?Situated between the coast in the south and the stunning green hills

in the north, Swansea is the ideal location to see Britain’s beaches

and countryside at their best. It is also a superb centre for shopping

and dining.

Swansea is conveniently located near the M4 motorway, which

links it directly with London and Heathrow Airport, just a three hour

drive or train journey away.

It has excellent direct rail links to London and other major UK cities,

and with Cardiff International Airport just 45 minutes away, budget

airlines make it quick and easy to visit other European countries.

As Wales’ second largest city, Swansea boasts the impressive

infrastructure you would expect from a modern European city. Its

beautiful seaside location makes it a favoured destination for tourists.

From the campus you can travel along the seafront to the modern

marina and the city centre, or to the vibrant coastal village of

Mumbles. Some of the best sporting facilities in Wales are just

two or three minutes away from the campus and accommodation

is within easy reach. Regular bus services run to the Student

Village and to popular student areas such as Uplands, the

Marina, Brynmill and Mumbles.

Swansea is a very affordable city in which to live and study. You

will need to budget for a minimum of £1,015 per month of study,

up to a maximum of nine months, to cover your living expenses

while studying in the UK.

Swansea’s climateThe climate in South Wales is temperate and in the summer

regularly reaches 20–25 degrees Celsius. This is ideal weather

for the beach, which is just across the road from the campus.

Winters are colder, with snow sometimes falling on the hills to

the north of the city. However, Swansea’s seaside location usually

protects the city itself from the coldest British weather.

FashionThe UK is well known for its fashion, so you may want to

spend some time exploring the many shops in Swansea

and other major UK cities such as Manchester, Birmingham

and London which are easily accessible by train. We

have everything on our doorstep in Swansea, from small

boutique independent stores to popular high street names

such as Zara and Topshop.

SportFootball, cricket, tennis, rugby, motorsport, to name just

a few! The UK is famous for its success in many sports.

Watching these sports live is an incredible experience

– try it when you study with us.

Music cultureMusic is a huge part of Welsh and British culture, especially

amongst young people. There are hundreds of musical

genres and even more places to watch and listen to live

Getting around Frequent buses run from directly outside our residences and will

take between 8 and 12 minutes to reach either campus. You can

buy a student bus pass for as little as £350 for the whole year,

making Swansea one of the most affordable cities in the UK to

travel around.

Cycling is a very popular way for students to get around affordably

and quickly. With many bike lanes throughout this very flat city,

this is often the most convenient way to get from Point A to Point

B. Swansea University is the birthplace of world-famous bike

Psychology is the scientific study of the brain and behaviour. Students will study the psychological and neuroscientific processes that underpin daily activities such as thinking, reasoning, memory and language, learn the consequences of brain injury and how to improve health-related behaviour.

The Psychology degree is validated by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and confers eligibility for Graduate Membership of the BPS and for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC). The Pre-Master’s programme will:

• help you develop your intellectual and practical skills building

While at ICWS, you will study a series of modules that will prepare you for a seamless progression to Stage 2 of your chosen taught master’s degree. All modules include core academic skills relevant to postgraduate degree study.

The language of instruction at ICWS is English. To attain entry into the undergraduate or postgraduate pathway, you must be able to demonstrate you have a suitable level of English proficiency. You can do this by obtaining one of the results shown in the table below.
