President’s Letter August 2017

Dear Quilters,

It was horrible weather, hot, humid with on and off showers.

There were no parking spaces. She pulled up to unload her pre-

cious cargo. Opening a cart to load into it all the quilts. Oh, this is

going to take a lot of trips. This was only half of what Sarah was

thinking as she brought all of our quilts into the museum. Only to

find a leaky roof and space problems. Well Sarah solved all the di-

lemmas, she got all the quilts hung that would fit and the others

safely returned to their owners.

All we had to do is go and be amazed. I was amazed! I know all of

you are talented, use different techniques, and color is your forte

but seeing it all together was impressive.

Thank you so much Sarah, and thank you, to all you who shared

your works of art. If you went to the museum you know what I’m

talking about if not, you missed a great display of our Guild’s capa-

bilities.

We discussed 90 year olds being a star and not having to pay dues

from that age on, yea!

The Minutes cover everything important but reminders are below.

• August 4th and 5th trip to Baker, FL to Ruthiewood for a work-

shop, lunch and hopefully a free sewing machine (with good

attendance).

• Yard Sale is our August program, sell your stuff or buy things to

benefit the Guild.

• The Light Room across the street from the museum has a won-

derful photography exhibit which runs until 8/26/17 it was

done by Mike Wood (spouse of Joyce Wood) and is very sooth-

ing and awe inspiring, I loved.

Every one think cool thoughts, stay hydrated and see you at Ruth-

ies.

Community Quilts This past workday Wednesday we made 13 catheter bag covers and 7 walker bags. We delivered these plus 17 more catheter bag covers and 3 quilts to Sims Nursing Home. We also delivered one quilt to Bethel Village.

This Wednesday we plan on working on quilts for Head start. The August workday we are hoping to make stockings for Meals on Wheels. Thank you for your help and donations.

Respectfully submitted, Chris Goehring and Georgia Gunn

Did you know we have a celebrity

in our midst, our very own

Sarah Hutton!!

The city of Lynn Haven recently dedicated the bridge in Sheffield Park in her name. Sarah had been president of the Lynn Haven Garden Club, not just once but 3 times. During that time the club took on the task of improving the local city park, now named Sheffield Park, and made it a pleasant and welcome place to visit. Congratu-lations Sarah!

Thank You! I would very much like to thank all those members of the guild for their kind phone calls and the beautiful cards that were sent my way while I was struggling to maintain our farm (and my sanity) while my husband was recovering from his spinal surgery. It meant a lot to me to have all those offers of help, so much so that I had more offers of help than I needed help with. You are truly a won-derful, caring group, and I am happy to be amongst you. With an open heart I thank you!! Diane Hiller

A mystery quilt in

lap and queen sizes

Page 9: Patchwords August 2017 - Saint Andrew Bay Quilters' … Minutes cover everything important but reminders are below. *Send pictures & newsletter info to Jennifer Adams— drjennifer@ymail.com

Welcome to the Magnolia Mystery Quilt along! The mystery quilt is hosted on the Meadow Mist Designs blog (www.MeadowMistDesigns.blogspot.com) and on the Meadow Mist Designs Facebook Group page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1583320305263906/)

The quilt pattern is designed for an advanced beginner, there are no Y-seams, paper piecing, or applique in the quilt. The Magnolia Mystery Quilt is a modern mystery quilt with plenty of negative space (background) with instructions for both lap and queen sized quilts.

PATTERN NOTES:

Ÿ Width of fabrics (WOF) for this pattern is assumed to be 40”. Ÿ A scant ¼” (a thread width smaller than ¼”) seam is to be used throughout the construction of the quilt

unless otherwise instructed.

Fabric Requirements

Fabric Selection TipsŸ Within these quilt instructions, the following colors

will be used to represent the fabrics:

Ÿ Fabric D is the background of the quilt. As you can see from the fabric yardages above, about 70% of the quilt is going to be background fabric. So that the eye has a place to rest within the quilt, it is suggested that a solid or a tone-on-tone print that reads as a solid be used for Fabric D.

Ÿ Due to the finished fabric piece sizes and piecing methods for the quilt top, it is recommended that fabric prints used have a smaller scale, non-directional design.

Ÿ Each of the fabric yardages above may be made using scraps of similar colors instead of a single fabric. Instructions are included to use pre-cuts for Fabric B.

Ÿ The following fabrics will be next to each other within the quilt, please test your fabrics selections to make sure that there is enough contrast between the fabrics:

Ÿ A is next to C and DŸ B is next to C and DŸ C is next to A, B, and DŸ D is next to A, B, and C

Ÿ For these quilt instructions, the colors used in the illustrations are as follows: A and B are medium tones, C is a dark tone, and D is a light tone. However, you can easily change up the colors (such as making D a dark tone) as long as there is good contrast between the fabrics that are going to be next to each other.
