I magine living among the first
generation of Christian in the Roman Empire,
facing difficulties in many sectors of life. The Jewish Christians were considered traitors to their own ethnicity and to the traditions of their religion. The Roman government was perpetually offended as Christians declared “Jesus is Lord.” To the governing authorities, it was both a mystery and criminally treasonous to refer to an executed rabbi and traveling magician as “Lord” when only Caesar was to hold that title.
It was into this culture flood that Christianity was born and began to thrive. By the time we come to the final book of the Bible, the apostles had been scattered and most had died. But they has used the forced relocations as missionary opportunities. Everywhere

they went, they preached the gospel, fulfilled the compassion ethic of Jesus, and planted churches. While they ministered, however, our first-century brothers and sisters also suffered.
This past Sunday we began a study of the first three chapters of Revelation. This book has been a fascination for many throughout the centuries.
Someone remarked on Sunday that “you don’t teach the book of Revelation it teaches you.” As we approach this book over the next several Sundays I encourage you to have an open mind and an open heart to its fascinating message of hope!

I want to express my deepest gratitude and
excitement for the opportunity to join the
Mechanicsville Baptist Church Family! As I
have participated in various activities at
Mechanicsville throughout this past few
weeks, my family and I have been
overwhelmed by the generosity and hospitality of those we have had
the opportunity to meet.
As I look to begin my ministry here I am extremely encouraged by
the unconditional love I see taking place inside and outside these
walls by those who attend and serve here. I have nothing but
excitement for what the future may hold. There are so many talented
people right here in our congregation and I cannot wait to learn about
each of your talents. So often I hear people say some of the
following things “I am not a good enough singer to join the choir or
praise band. “I play an instrument, but I not good enough to play in
church.”
I want to have an open ministry for all skill levels and everyone.
Everyone is welcome to join choir, praise team, hand bells, and or
play a solo in church. If you have a God given talent in music please
come meet me and I would love to help you to be able to show
others your talent. Remember it is about worshiping God and
glorifying Him through the gifts He has given us. From the very
young to the young at heart….we all can worship the Lord with our
talents!
One of the first new and exciting things I would like to do for the
celebration of Easter is a Men’s Choir! All men are welcome! No
experience required. We will have a few rehearsals leading up to
Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. Please consider joining us! You
will be blessed and so will our church! More details coming soon.
Please see me if interested in joining the Adult Choir, Ladies
Ensemble, Choir, Men’s Choir or playing an instrument in a service.
There is a place for you! My email address [email protected].
Blessings to all of you as we embark
on 2019!
In His Love,
Paul
The Touchstone
Dear Friends,
Words cannot express my ap-preciation for all of the love and support that you gave to Tim and to me during the course of
Tim’s illness and at the time of his passing.
Your cards, calls and visits lifted our spirits, and your many acts of kindness touched our hearts. Your prayers were invaluable throughout this jour-ney. Tim loved his “adopted” MBC family, and was so grateful for your friendship.
I feel truly blessed to have been the beneficiary of this congregation’s love and care for over 60 years.
Thank you again, Becky Clarke
