SAINT KATHARINE DREXEL church Fifth Sunday of Lent MECHANICSBURG, Pennsylvania April 7, 2019 Pastoral Reflection Todays readings invite us to reflect on our need for redemption and to open our eyes to the new things that God wants to do in us. The First Reading is addressed to the exiles in Babylon. They are told that God is about to destroy the Babylonian empire. What a marvelous thing! God will buy back the exiles in the same way that he destroyed the pharaohs army at the Red Sea. Moreover, this new Exodus will be so great that they will forget the first one. God makes all things new. In the Second Reading, Paul tells the community at Philippi about his former life as a persecutor of the followers of Jesus and about how everything he once had is now considered rubbish in light of knowing Christ and his Resurrection. Here, knowingmeans experiencing Christ in faith. At Home With The Word In His Love and mine , Fr. Ken More important information listed on the website and App! Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam+

We hope you are enjoying your journey through our Parish Family Fully Alive Program. As we know the family plays a central role in our faith, our community and our society. Pope St. John Paul II wrote: “The family has the mission to guard, reveal and communicate love.” Last month we reflected on “Family Difficulties.” Fr. Ken in his most recent homily, expanded “difficulties” our nuclear family experiences to “difficulties” our parish family and the larger church are experiencing. As Fr. Ken said, “When one suffers we all suffer. We are all in this together.” With that as prelude welcome to the April theme of the Family Fully Alive Program: Mercy and Forgiveness. How appropriate it is that this theme follows our recent Parish mission, one theme of which was Divine Mercy. Pope St. John Paul II said that mercy is “love’s second name.” Throughout scripture we are exposed to Christ’s Mercy. We need to let Christ’s example take root in our own hearts and learn to let go of resentments. Easier said than done! As a family let’s take a look at the April theme and get to work with the readings, discussions and family projects. Family Fully Alive booklets are available in the church narthex

Interfaith Shelter Golf Classic - May 13, 2019 The 17th annual Interfaith Shelter Golf Classic will take place on Monday, May 13 at Colonial Country Club in Harrisburg. Four-person scramble format. The day includes a registration gift, boxed lunch, practice range, 18 holes of golf with a cart, and a buffet dinner after golf with door prizes. All Golfers are welcome. Cost is $100.00 per player, and various sponsorships are available. All proceeds will benefit the Interfaith Shelter for Homeless Families. For more information, visit www.cchbg.org or contact Christopher Meehan at [email protected] or 717-657-4804 (ext 284).

The Shippensburg University Concert Choir and Madrigal Choir will perform on April 7, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA. This concert is open to the public and a free will offering will be taken to help support the concert series. The Shippensburg Concert Choir is a mixed vocal ensemble of 50 auditioned voices which performs a variety of literature from the different periods of music history. The choir’s activities include performances on and off campus, in local churches, and on an annual tour. This year the choir will tour Ireland during the summer. This marks the first time they are appearing at St. Theresa. We invite you to join us for what promises to be a very moving program.

TMIY All the men of the parish are invited to attend the next TMIY session, on Saturday, April 13th at 7 a.m. in the Msgr. Smith Room. Please join us as we discuss the tale of the Two Kings: Derelict David, or Disciplined David. Sounds like a good one. Feel free to join us for this very interesting topic. No prior experience is needed to come to the TMIY program. Breakfast is included. God bless, The Core Team Luke 1:49

Safety and Security Corner As we continue our efforts to ensure the safety and security of everyone who uses our facilities at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, here are some things to keep in mind.

Medical personnel (Doctors, Nurses, EMTs, etc.) who are present at Mass are encouraged to introduce themselves to the ushers in the event that a medical emergency would occur during Mass.

The two side doors to the church (near the cry room and the hallway between the church and office) are now being locked at the beginning of each Mass. You may still enter the church via the main entrance doors at the center of the church.

It is highly recommended that parents or guardians of children under the age of 12 accompany their children if they need to use the rest rooms during Mass.

Remember to follow the one-way traffic pattern and proceed around the church to the lower level parking lot when you leave Mass. Your charitable cooperation could prevent an injury.

If you would like to assist us in the development and implementation of our Parish Safety and Security Plan, please contact Jodi in the Parish Office.

Registration for the Good Shepherd Football and Cheerleading will be held Sunday April 14th, 2019 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Parish Center. Children ages 5 to 13 are eligible to participate in the program. Children need to be enrolled in the CCD program or attend a parish School. All home games are played at Trinity High School. For more information call Dan Calabrase 717-443-7632 or refer to our website gsrams.org
