WORSHIP

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING Rev. Rebecca Mallozzi speaks to the children this morning, and then

preaches the sermon. Becki is the Pastor Nominating Committee’s proposed candidate for the pastor’s position here at Faith Church. Immediately following worship, the congregation will meet to vote on their recommendation.

After the formalities have been dealt with, a Pot Luck Luncheon will follow, providing an opportunity for you to welcome and greet Becki, and introduce yourself to her. For those who may not have read her letter of introduction in the Faith Flyer, it has been included in this morning’s insert on page 3.

COMMUNION INCLUSION The small boxes on the serving plates with the communion bread

contain brown rice crackers, which are wheat free, gluten free, soy and nut free, and are for those needing allergen free foods.

FROM WELCOMING TO INVITING Keep our initiative going. This week, think about something our

congregation does very well. Perhaps it’s children’s ministry, education, music, community mission, caring for one another. Then use that to finish the phrase, “My church is really good at _____.” Again, one time per week to one person in a conversation.

MISSION

ARE YOU NEW TO FAITH CHURCH? If this is your first time in worship with us here at Faith

Church, welcome! We want to get to know you, so be sure to sign the friendship registry when it is passed to you.

1st SUNDAY OF THE MONTH.

9:30 am: Middle School and High School

Following Children’s Time in worship: K-Grade 5 Sunday School.

Children younger than Kindergarten may go to the nursery.

11:20 am: Adults – meeting in room 7

Youth Group

Youth in grades 6-8 are invited to participate in Middle School Youth Group (MSYG) which meets in Fellowship Hall from 5:00-7:00 PM.

Youth in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in High School Youth Group (HSYG) from 6:30-8:30 PM on scheduled nights, at Faith. Each

week, we have a meal together, which is sponsored by our awesome parents and mentors. Questions about Youth Groups and their events can be directed to Joanne Marchetto at [email protected].

Next Meeting—Tonight

Adult Sunday School

Jan. 14 – “UK's Prince Harry and American Meghan Markle Announce Their Engagement” The engagement of UK’s Prince Harry and American actor Meghan Markle was announced in November. The fact that Markle is American, divorced and biracial and that the royal family has nonetheless welcomed the engagement is a change from past traditions that have marked the British monarchy. We will examine the value we place on tradition, and think about what God's role is in a world of change.

Jan. 21 – “More Women Are Choosing to 'Marry' Themselves” We will use a report about sologamy, the practice of women who marry themselves, to consider the meaning and purpose of marriage, wedding ceremonies, self-love and singleness.

Jan. 28 – “Rerouted Train in India Causes Passengers Alarm” Incidents have been reported of trains going the wrong way on the track, taking passengers to a different destination from the one they originally expected to reach at the end of their journey. We explore how unexpected events challenge our faith and change the direction of our lives.

Additional Discipleship Opportunities

There are small groups that meet during the week. New participants are always welcome.

Women’s Devotional Fellowship meets on Thursdays at participants’

homes from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Next Meeting: January 11

Disciples of Christ (DOC), a men’s study & discussion group, meets every

other Thursday at 7:30 AM in the parlor. The subject: Staying Positive in

a Negative World. Next meeting: January 1

Noon Bible Study meets on Wednesdays in the Parlor. Come share the

Bible with this lively group! All are welcome! Next Meeting: January 10

Faith Watercolor Painters Group will meet on Thursdays in the Fellowship

Hall from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This new group will be led by Dick Farmer

and assisted by Ed Klova. Please contact Dick Farmer (610-967-4401) for additional information, or the date of the next gathering.

“Christians & Racism” This Discussion Group meets at 6:00 PM here at

the church, on the first and third Sundays of the month. Next Meeting: Today

T he Discipleship Committee, through the dedication and passion of its many volunteers, is able to offer the following programs to the church. However, we are never finished, in our effort to better serve the needs of our members. We are always open to new ideas and ways to further the Discipleship of

Faith Presbyterian Church. The Discipleship Committee meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Parlor. All are welcome to join us.

Dear Faith Church,

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! As I’m writing this letter, we are headed straight into the season of Advent: a

season of waiting and expectation. It’s an exciting time, inviting us to remember our past while thinking about the future. It’s the perfect

season for us to look forward to the journey ahead of us. I’m so thankful that God brought our walks together and I’m looking forward

to the ministry God has in store for us.

While I hope to spend a good amount of time getting to know

each of you better (and inviting you to get to know me better, too!) in the seasons to come, let me share a bit about myself by way of

introduction now.

I’m what you call a “cradle Presbyterian.” I was baptized and raised in the First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton Square, NJ – the

same church where my parents grew up, met, married, and still attend. I always felt at home in the church (in fact, my parents will tell you

stories about how I escaped the nursery to explore the building!). Church was always a second home to me. I was involved in Sunday

school, as a student and later as a teacher. I was a youth deacon and active with the Christian Education committee as well as youth group.

My time growing up in the church, the encouragement I received from my church family and the love my home family gave me led me to seek

a call in ministry.

God’s call carried me from New Jersey to Illinois in 2010 where I served as the solo pastor of Washington Presbyterian Church for seven

years. God truly blessed my time there.

My church background and my experiences in Illinois taught me

the importance of the village. It taught me the importance of the baptismal vows the whole congregation takes: to raise and nurture

children in the church. But the “raising and nurturing” part doesn’t stop when the child becomes an adult. As children of God, we continue

to fulfill these vows in the ways we support and encourage one another, building one another up in faith. I believe in the village and the village’s

role in the community. God has called the church to exist in this time and place and we respond to that call faithfully when the village steps

up to reflect God’s love in our world. We do this inside of our church walls and out.

There are exciting times ahead of us. I fully anticipate that there will be some challenges as we learn each other’s ways, and I’m looking

forward to navigating those challenges with you! As the season of Advent reminds us, our story does not end in the past.

We remember the way our stories shape us, just as we remember

how the story of Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection shapes us. We remember these stories to give us courage to move forward into

the future together. I am so excited to learn your story and with you, trusting in God’s faithfulness, shape it into our story!

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Rebecca S. Mallozzi December 13, 2017
