THIS SACRED MEAL Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Each of the readings includes a blessing and a sharing of food. They remind us of the central place of meals in our lives. Each meal brings to mind other meals: the sharing of cookies and milk, pizza and beer, loaves and fishes, bread and wine. When we prepare a meal for our family, our friends, even strangers, we always put something of ourselves into the preparation and the meal itself. The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminds us of what God put into the preparation for this meal that we celebrate today. We share this sa-cred meal and are transformed as we remember the death of Jesus and the sacrifice that nurtures our faith, sustains our lives, and supports our work.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION We owe today’s beautiful feast to a valiant woman who suffered a great deal to establish a feast out of her love for the Eucharist. Juliana was a nun in Belgium in the thirteenth century. She served in a hospital for lepers. She became convinced through her prayer that the liturgical year was incomplete because it had no feast for the Eucharist. Her efforts were not welcome, and a supervising priest sought to punish her for promoting a feast that “nobody wanted.” He even had her accused of financial mismanagement and banished her from her convent. Shortly after she was exiled, the bishop approved the feast. It quickly spread through Europe. In those days, people very seldom received Holy Communion, and so the processions through the streets with the eucharistic bread not only led to an awareness of Christ’s hunger to be with us, but prepared the way for a deeper desire to receive Christ’s Body and Blood in more frequent Communion. The feast grew rapidly, but Juliana disappeared into poverty and a hidden life. She ended her days as an “anchoress,” a woman living in seclusion in a room attached to a parish church. Imagine her delight at seeing us gathered at the table of the Lord on this day, aware of Christ’s presence in our midst, sharing fully in Christ’s Body and Blood. Our celebration today invests her struggle and sorrows with dignity and meaning.

This tragedy can happen to anyone, so it’s important to take steps to mini-mize risks. Don’t leave your children in the car, even for a few minutes, when temperatures are high. Even with the windows down, it can get hot inside fast, and small chil-dren may be unable to open doors to get out. Don’t let your children play in the car. They could easily shut themselves in a hot vehicle without you noticing. Store your purse, wallet, or cell phone in the backseat, next to your child’s car seat. You’ll reach for those things on your way out, reminding you of a sleeping or quiet child in the backseat. ESTE SAGRADO ALIMENTO Hoy celebramos el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Cada una de las lecturas incluyen una bendición y un compartir de alimentos. Lo cual nos recuerda de lo importante que son las comidas en nuestras vidas. Cada comida trae el recuerdo de otras comidas: el compartir galletas y leche, pizza y cerveza, panecillos y pescados, pan y vino. Cuando preparamos una comida para nuestra familia, nuestros amigos, aun para personas desconocidas, siempre ponemos algo de nosotros en la preparación y en la comida misma. El Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo nos recuerda lo que Dios puso en la preparación para este alimento que celebramos hoy. Compartimos este sagrado alimento y somos transformados al tiempo que recordamos la muerte de Jesús y el sacrificio que nutre nuestra fe, sustenta nuestra vida y apoya nuestro trabajo.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Perú tiene más de 3000 fiestas cada año, normalmente en torno al santo patrón de algún pueblo. La celebración de Corpus Christi es celebrada en todo el país. Pero es más llamativa en Cusco. Durante el día se escucha el repique de Ma-ría Angola, la campana más grande de todo Perú, que existe desde el siglo XVI. La celebración incluye una procesión con quince santos y vírgenes del siglo XVII, que vienen desde sus santuarios hasta la barroca Catedral de Cusco para honrar el Cuerpo de Jesús. Estas imágenes son cargadas por la plaza de armas antes de llegar a la catedral donde se quedarán hasta el octavo día. Según los peruanos los santos y vírgenes pasan las siete noches platicando con el Señor de los temblores, bromeando y planificando el año que viene para sus parroquias. El último día los santos y vírgenes regresan a sus santuarios con otra procesión. Estas dos procesiones nos recuerdan que por mucho que los latinoamericanos amemos y veneremos a los santos y vírgenes reconocemos que tanto ellos como nosotros están al servicio de Cristo Jesús. ANNOUNCEMENT On June 17th we started the process of renovation of the school courtyard. The cost of the renovations/repairs was $85,000. The Parish received a grant of $54,950.00 from ADLA. The parish will cover the other expenses for $30,000. If someone want support this project and give a do-nation can do it in the front office.

Recuerde que por medio de los sobres podemos ayudarle mucho mejor en cuestiones de cartas de recomendación, útiles muchas veces en procesos migratorios, y necesarios para nosotros a la hora de verificar su participación en nuestra comunidad parroqui-al. A la vez nos ayuda a mantener una administración más segura, ordenada y trasparente. Regístrese para permitirnos servirle mejor y ayudar a su Iglesia.

DID YOU STOP RECEIVING ENVELOPES? There are a couple different reasons why you may have stopped receiving your envelopes, like a change of address or an error from the postal office. However, come to our Parish Center to receive your envelopes again. Remember that through the envelopes we can better know you and your dedication to the church. If you ever need a letter from us, the envelopes are an important reference, not in the context of your donations but in that of your attendance.
