Children’s Church Hiatus
Please note that in order to allow our dedicat-ed volunteers quality time with their families, (not to mention a well deserved break!) we will not have Children’s Church during the month of July. This will be for five Sundays, beginning with July 2nd. Children’s Church will resume the first Sunday of August.
A WORD FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR….
CELEBRATION OF GOD AND COUNTRY – Mike Bundon has
put together an excellent plan for worship on Sunday morning, July
2, just a couple of days before Independence Day. I look forward
to a time of celebration, recognition and challenge. Please invite
members and guests who have served in the military to this event.
They will be recognized for their service to our country.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Being raised in the Baptist
Church and having served as a pastor for over 50 years I am well
aware of the value and importance of Vacation Bible School. I can
still remember lessons learned when I was young, in the Bible Sto-
ries, Character Stories and Mission Stories in VBS. Many children
make their profession of faith in Jesus Christ as a result of this spe-
cial week. Of course Vacation Bible School has changed through
the years and is different from those simple days in the past. The
theme this year is “Passport to Peru”. The dates are July 16-20.
Please volunteer to assist in VBS by calling the church office.
PRAYER SUPPORT – Remember to pray daily for your Pastor
Search Committee. They have been elected to fulfill an important
responsibility as they seek the next Senior Pastor for this fine
church.
Dr. Larry W. Fields, Interim Pastor
Passport to Peru Vacation Bible School
A Cross Cultural Vacation Bible School!
Sunday, July 16 — Thursday, July 20 6:00-8:15 p.m.
Climb Machu Picchu, savor exotic flavors of the Amazonian river basin, experience the life of Peruvian kids, and discover God's good gifts for us all! Group's Cross Culture VBS immerses children in another culture and expands their horizons to know God gives us comfort, patience, peace, love and joy.
Vacation Bible School will begin in just about two weeks. We need lots of volunteers—to be in charge of the stations, to lead children from rotation to rotation, and general volunteers. We will need help to set up and decorate, as well as folks to break down and clean up after everything is over. It doesn't matter if you can’t commit to the whole week. We will be happy to have your help for just a few hours, or for the entire time. Call the office or see Susan McWhirter to volun-teer.
Enjoy Mighty Wurlitzer organ perfor-mances by Dr. Bill Snyder and Freddie Brabson and special guest, the O’Connor Senior Center Band. The van will leave Smithwood at 11:00 a.m. Sign-up sheet on the Keenager bulletin board.
Please take this opportunity to invite family and friends to join us as we celebrate God and country this Sunday in our morning worship. While our ultimate goal is always to glorify our God in worship, we want to recognize with thankfulness those who have served our country as well as our God. We will enjoy lots of special music, scripture and a powerful message by Dr. Fields from II Chronicles 7:14 entitled “America At the Cross-roads” Pray for our country, pray for your church and bring a friend to worship.
There will be a Church Council meeting this Sunday immediately following the morning worship service. The Council includes the Pas-tor, ministerial staff, WMU Director, Sunday School Director, and the chairs of the Deacons, Trustees, Outreach Committee, Youth Minis-try, Finance, Recreation, Food and Fellowship, and the Moderator.
