At the last regular Rosenberg City Council meeting, council members unanimously voted in favor of an amendment to the code of ordinances to include Walnut Avenue as a street upon which the operation of trucks is prohibited. This item was brought to coun- cil by councilman Isaac Davila. “I brought this up because when the roads were open, we had a lot of trucks going through here, dam- aging streets,” he said. “On Avenue D, they have a sign of no trucks over 6,000 pounds. How big of a truck would that prohibit?” Public Works Director Rigo Calzoncin said that applies to anything over the size of a dump truck. “On Walnut, I would like to con- tinue that just to stop all the big trucks from cutting through the residences,” Davila continued. Mayor Bill Benton, along with the rest of council, agreed whole-heartedly. The city will install “No Truck” signs indicating the boundaries of the no truck designations along Walnut Avenue and providing a penalty in an amount not to exceed $200 for each violation. The sign will indicate no truck traffic on Walnut Avenue between SH 36 and Third Street. According to city staff, trucks are routinely observed using Wal- nut Avenue as a short-cut. Walnut Avenue is not designed to accom- modate heavy truck traffic on a regular basis. City staff said that by allowing trucks to deviate from state main- tained roadways that are designed for heavy loads, city streets are sustaining excessive amounts of damage that would require major repairs by the city. Davila made a motion to add “No Truck” signs along Walnut Av- enue. The motion was seconded by Benton and passed unanimously. The next regular Rosenberg City Council meeting will be held via Zoom teleconference July 21. Citizens will not be allowed to attend council meetings, but can still ask questions via letters, tele- phone or email. Email comments to dswint@ rosenbergtx.gov. Meetings can be watched live on the city’s YouTube Channel “RosenbergTXGov,” on the city’s website at www.rosenbergtx.gov/ tv, and on Comcast Channel 16 for residents within the city limits. Semi-trucks prohibited from driving down Walnut Avenue Advertise in the Fort Bend Herald and online at www.fbherald.com Call us at 281-232-3737 FW Post 3903 in Rosenberg has taken over the duties of Our Com- munity Salutes-Fort Bend. Our Community Salutes-Fort Bend has been dissolved because its members are moving out of the area. The organization is a national nonprofit group that supports high school seniors enlisting in the U.S. armed services after high school graduation. The organization held a ceremony for enlistees complete with a meal. “VFW Post 3903 will do every- thing possible to continue in some sort of manner the same recogni- tion for future enlistees and their families that Our Community Sa- lutes-Fort Bend has done in the past,” said Post Cmmdr. Ken Dillon. Passing of the torch Our Community Salutes-Fort Bend has dissolved but be- fore doing so “passed the torch” onto VFW Post 3903 in Rosenberg. The post will now take on the duty of rec- ognizing high school graduates who enlist in the armed forces. Our Community Salutes donated its remaining funds to the post to help it host the annual ceremonies.

Semi-truck drivers coming through the city of Rosenberg will no longer be allowed to drive along Walnut Avenue.

At the last regular Rosenberg City Council meeting, council members unanimously voted in favor of an amendment to the code of ordinances to include Walnut Avenue as a street upon which the operation of trucks is prohibited.

This item was brought to coun-cil by councilman Isaac Davila.

“I brought this up because when the roads were open, we had a lot of trucks going through here, dam-aging streets,” he said. “On Avenue D, they have a sign of no trucks over 6,000 pounds. How big of a truck would that prohibit?”

Public Works Director Rigo Calzoncin said that applies to

anything over the size of a dump truck.

“On Walnut, I would like to con-tinue that just to stop all the big trucks from cutting through the residences,” Davila continued.

According to city staff, trucks are routinely observed using Wal-nut Avenue as a short-cut. Walnut Avenue is not designed to accom-modate heavy truck traffic on a regular basis.

City staff said that by allowing

trucks to deviate from state main-tained roadways that are designed for heavy loads, city streets are sustaining excessive amounts of damage that would require major repairs by the city.

Davila made a motion to add “No Truck” signs along Walnut Av-enue. The motion was seconded by Benton and passed unanimously.

The next regular Rosenberg City Council meeting will be held via Zoom teleconference July 21.

Citizens will not be allowed to attend council meetings, but can still ask questions via letters, tele-phone or email.

Meetings can be watched live on the city’s YouTube Channel “RosenbergTXGov,” on the city’s website at www.rosenbergtx.gov/tv, and on Comcast Channel 16 for residents within the city limits.

Our Community Salutes-Fort Bend has been dissolved because its members are moving out of the area.

The organization is a national nonprofit group that supports high school seniors enlisting in the U.S. armed services after high school graduation. The organization held a ceremony for enlistees complete with a meal.

“VFW Post 3903 will do every-thing possible to continue in some sort of manner the same recogni-tion for future enlistees and their families that Our Community Sa-lutes-Fort Bend has done in the past,” said Post Cmmdr. Ken Dillon.

Passing of the torchOur Community Salutes-Fort Bend has dissolved but be-fore doing so “passed the torch” onto VFW Post 3903 in Rosenberg. The post will now take on the duty of rec-

ognizing high school graduates who enlist in the armed forces. Our Community Salutes donated its remaining funds to the post to help it host the annual ceremonies.
