Simple Sentence

Directions

Write a sentence using only an article, a noun, an action verb, and the object of the verb.

Example

The hornet stung me.

Adjective & Adverb

Directions

Write the same sentence above, but add at least one adjective and at least one adverb.

Example

Prepositional Phrase

Directions

Rewrite the same sentence, but add 2 prepositional phrases.

Example

The angry hornet with the bright yellow markings stung me repeatedly on the leg.

Participial Phrase

Directions

Rewrite the same sentence, but ad at least one participial phrase.

Participial phrases begin with “-ing” verbs

Buzzing furiously, the angry hornet with the bright yellow markings stung me repeatedly on the leg.

Appositive Phrase

Directions Rewrite the same

sentence, but add at least one appositive phrase.

Appositive phrases are noun phrases that describe another noun/pronoun.

They begin with “article + noun”

Example

Buzzing furiously, the angry hornet with the bright yellow markings stung me, an innocent bystander, repeatedly on the leg.

Infinitive Phrase

Directions Rewrite the same

sentence, but add at least one infinitive phrase.

Infinitive phrases are verb phrases that begin with “to + verb”

Example

Buzzing furiously and mad enough to fight a giant, the angry hornet with the bright yellow markings stung me, an innocent bystander, repeatedly on the leg.
