Performance and tuningThese pages contain a range of quality components that will generallyimprove the performance and handling of your MGB. Remember, beforeincreasing the power output and speed of any vehicle, you should ensurethat your brakes, steering, chassis etc... can cope with the modifications.

When tuning your car to get more power you need to get more air and fuelthrough the system in the right proportions. The first stage is to replace therestrictive standard exhaust system and air filter, the fuelling would then

SpoilersThese spoilers are replicas of original factory items. Fitting a spoiler altersthe airflow around and under the car to give increased stability at speed andalso enhance the look of your MGB.

Leyland ST style spoilersThe ST style spoilers were developed by Leyland Special Tuning using awind tunnel for works competition cars. This style replaces the front valanceand reduces the ground clearance; it is available plain or with recesses forlamps or brake ducts. Available in fibreglass or ABS plastic.

Fibreglass panelsFibre glass panels are offered as an alternative to steel panels primarily forcompetition use, where the weight saving can give valuable power/weightadvantages and they are lighter and cheaper to replace if damaged. Ourfibreglass panels are made from good quality materials and finished in white gelcoat. The wings are manufactured as a ‘skin’, featuring the necessary flanges andrear bracket to allow fitting but do not have any holes or fittings included,these must be positioned whilst fitting. They are made to chrome bumperspecification, but can be easily modified for rubber bumper cars. Bonnet andboot lids are available as skins or with frames featuring captive nuts as required.A good fit and finish can be achieved with these panels but it will take timeand care to get it right. See the Restoration section for fitting hardware.

have to be adjusted to suit. Beyond this you are looking at modifying theengine internals with a gas flowed big valve cylinder head, performancecamshaft and possibly a bigger bore.

Whilst you are in there you can fit lightened and/or strengthened internals.Again the fuelling would have to be adjusted to suit, possibly with Webercarburettors. Other routes to bigger power outputs include supercharging ornitrous injection.

Bonnet straps and pin setWorks style bonnet straps add a classic race & rally look to any classic car.Originally used by the factory BMC Special Tuning department to preventunwanted opening of the bonnet these straps are perfect for those recreatingthat retro rally car look or just wanting peace of mind. Manufactured fromhigh quality leather with stainless steel end plates. Available in tan or blackeither individually or in pairs. Or choose a set of stainless steel bonnet pinsto give a modern competition look. Some bodywork modification isrequired to enable their use.

Sebring front and rear valancesDesigned for works MGB’s and MGC’s to improve aerodynamics once thebumpers have been removed.

The front valance features apertures for cooling radiator and brakes and therear valance smoothes off the area below the light pods. The front valance issimply mounted using standard hardware.

The rear valance should be bonded to the car and fared in to the requiredfinish. Designed for chrome bumper models but can be adapted to fitrubber bumper cars. Supplied unpainted.

Sebring wing setThe MGC GTS was a great looking version of the classic GT shape. Thewide arches give the car a more purposeful stance and aggressive look whichhas become a popular choice in various MGB race championships. It alsoallows the fitting of up to 9J x 15” wheels.

You can recreate that look on your GT or Roadster with our Sebring wingkits. The wing kit can be used with a choice of valances, either the Sebringfront valance or the Leyland ST style spoiler and the Sebring rear valance.

However, modification to the ST spoiler will be necessary to bring thevalance ends into line with the wheel arch edges. A good fit and finish canbe achieved with these panels but it will take time and care to get it right.Supplied as a pair of front wings and a pair of rear lower wing sections. Werecommend that the wing set is purchased and offered up for fitting beforeany original bodywork is removed. All panels are unpainted fibreglass.

Uprated brake kitsImproving the braking system of your car is essential for fast road, track dayand competition use. These two kits offer Wilwood 4-pot calipers with achoice of vented or solid discs. Using 4-pot calipers provides greater pressureacross a larger pad area to increase braking efficiency.

Cross-drilled brake discsUsing cross-drilled discs improves braking by dispersing the surface gassesthat build up as the pads get hot, reducing fade, giving more consistentbraking. Important: If fitting grooved or cross-drilled discs to replacestandard solid discs, they must be fitted as a pair.

Each unit is tested to check its performance against thedesign parameters, and the valves are individually set to provide the correcthydraulic characteristics for the application. Front telescopic damper conversionsThis conversion kit is the simplest way to get the benefits of telescopicdampers for your MGB. The main feature of the kit is the specially designedbrackets used to support the telescopic damper. The top bracket fits neatlyunder the lever arm damper and the lower brackets bolt to the side of thewishbone arm. The conversion kit has been designed to retain the lever armdamper as the upper suspension link, but with the damper valve removedkeeping the fluid to lubricate the mechanism.

This conversion offers improved damping for standard height cars for roador motorsport use on either MGB or BV8’s, although some competitionregulations do not allow this conversion. Supplied with brackets, dampers,brake hoses, fitting hardware and comprehensive instructions.

Negative camber wishbone armsFitting these wishbone arms will induce negative camber to the frontsuspension, improving turn-in for quicker and safer cornering. They arerecommended for all road cars and are essential for competition. Thesewishbone arms are supplied as a car set. Once installed the tracking must becorrected, we recommend a toe in of between 1/8” to 3/32”.

Uprated front coil springsAfter fitting an uprated anti-roll bar and/or a telescopic conversion, the nextstage of suspension tuning is to improve the springs. The ride height of theMGB cannot be reduced by a great deal, but lowered springs with a strongerspring rate will substantially improve handling.

We now offer our range of coil springs in a new modern specificationmaterial, silicon chrome steel. This material is used in many currentproduction cars and is lighter than the original chrome vanadium steel,which will help reduce the ‘un-sprung’ weight, ideal for fast road &competition cars. These new springs are only supplied in matched pairs.

Front coil over conversionOur conversion coupled with Gaz dampers, brings the MGB's frontsuspension up to modern standards of handling and ride by combining thespring and damper into a single unit. The conversion discards the old leverarm dampers replacing them with a sturdy top wishbone assembly. Ourdynamic suspension conversion offers many improvements including a morepositive ride, lighter steering and, the ability to adjust the car’s ride height.

Anti-tramp bars and fittingsThe use of anti tramp bars is highly recommended for cars which have morethan standard power available. They are fitted between the rear spring fronteye bushes and the centre spring mountings on the axle by special brackets,which are supplied as part of the conversion.

When power is applied suddenly, usually from a standing start, the rear leafsprings tend to wind up into an S shape, and then revert to normal in aseries of hops, referred to as tramping.

Superpro polyurethane suspension bushesThe first stage in improving your suspension is to check all your bushes -there’s no point buying springs and dampers if the bushes are worn out.These suspension bushes improve the handling by reducing the amount ofunwanted flex in the standard type of bush, leaving the suspension to movein the direction intended by the designers.

Polyurethane is the best solution for road use. It gives improved locationwithout having a detrimental effect on noise levels or a harsh ride. Addedadvantages are improved longevity and unlike rubber it is not affected byultra violet light, water, salt, oil or petrol. The Superpro bushes come with asteel sleeve and grease where necessary and are available either individually, aseither front or rear sets or as a complete car set for your MG.

Uprated suspension bushesA much tighter feel for the handling can be achieved by fitting uprated suspensionbushes. We offer SuperPro polyurethane or hard nylatron. Front telescopic damper conversionThis complete bolt-on kit has been developed to increase the efficiency, gripand feel whilst maintaining good levels of ride comfort. Developed inassociation with Ken Costello this damper conversion is a complete bolt-onconversion for your MGB.

This conversion kit allows the use of telescopic dampers giving improveddamping control over the original lever arm dampers. The damper topmount brackets and the top arm are manufactured from high grade LM25cast aluminium to reduce weight but give firm control of the suspensionmovement. The geometry of the suspension is slightly revised to increaseefficiency and grip without adding harshness.

Moss sports performance exhaust systemsThese performance exhaust systems are specifically designed foreach model and are manufactured in 304 grade stainless steel with

a mirror polished tail pipe. To get the best out of them they should be usedwith one of our tubular extractor manifolds although can be fitted tostandard systems.

MGB Moss sports exhaust systemUsing large bore pipes improves gas flow in a manifold, although contrary tothis the exhaust system should not be too large as this can cause a powerreduction. Additional power can be gained by removing the front box, butthis also creates additional noise, which is not always desirable. Moss Sportperformance exhaust systems have been designed using large bore 1 7/8”pipe work (standard pipe work is 1 3/4”), which has been found to be theoptimum diameter to give maximum power benefits for ‘road’ tuned 1800ccto fully modified 1995cc engines. The design uses a single large capacity rearsilencer that gives a sporty exhaust note and improved ground clearance for

lowered cars. This system is a direct fit and works well with either STR630or TT10730 (see page A15). It can be fitted to a standard down pipe orFalcon tubular manifold if desired using a link pipe.

Note: Link pipes may require cutting.

Moss performance exhaust manifolds & systemsImproving the gas flow through the engine is the key to gaining more power, asimple first step ‘Stage 1’ is to upgrade the induction (see page A32 & A33 fordetails on air filters) and exhaust systems. Fitting an extractor manifold (see pageA15) with a performance exhaust allows the engine to breathe more easily. Togain the most benefit from our extractor manifolds and performance exhaustsystems they should be used together.

Extractor manifolds work by allowing the gasses to flow through a smoother

path. Using larger bore pipes also reduces back pressure in the manifold andcylinder head. Additional power can be gained by wrapping the manifold, thisreduces the temperature in the engine bay, allowing cooler air into the carbs,and keeping the exhaust gasses hot which means they have less density andflow more freely, see our website or Restoration Tools catalogue for details.

Our manifolds and systems are manufactured to the highest standards andare available in high quality mild steel or type 304 stainless steel. All pipesare mandrel bent to maintain tube shape and assembly is done on jigs toensure accuracy and quality fit.

Pertronix ignitionThese completely self contained electronic ignition units offer a simplealternative to traditional points and condenser arrangement. Designed to fitentirely within the distributor cap they are easy to install with no externalcontrol boxes to mount and only two wires to connect, no permanentmodifications are involved.

In-line cut-off switchesThese cut off switches need to be fitted into the main battery to startercable. The body of the switch should be mounted securely to the car andcables fitted using the terminal kit.

Lumenition ignitionLumenition electronic ignition kits are well known as being among thefinest aftermarket electronic ignition systems available. This system basicallyreplaces both the contact points and condenser with an optical switch andpower module. The power module is an electronic device that receives apulse from the optical trigger which switches the coil. The trigger eliminatescontact bounce, arcing, mechanical wear and spark scatter, reducingmaintenance and increasing reliability. With minimal wiring andmodifications this kit is very discreet.

Note: Installation of a power module requires a distributor fitting kit.

A performance ignition kit is available, it includes a power module and ahigh output coil. The microcircuit control of the coil current gives optimumperformance across high engine speed ensuring maximum spark energy at thecoil. A fitting kit, to suit the distributor application, is also required. Positiveearth wiring instructions are available from your nearest Moss branch.

Please check your distributor type before ordering the fitting kit as manycars have non-original distributors fitted. The identification number is caston the distributor body.
