Background SB 1908: Post-secondary institutions must collaborate with K-

12 institutions to provide remediation for not college-ready

high school students.

1.College faculty and administrators connect

with K-12 partners.

Start a planning team to include Developmental

Studies Dean, Department Chair or Coordinator

of Developmental Studies, Department Chair ofEnglish, Department Chair of Mathematics.

K-12 personnel should include Language Arts,

Reading and Mathematics Coordinators or

Curriculum Specialists. It is also a good idea to

get a principal or assistant principal on the

team.

Talk about conference ideas and what

both the College stakeholders and theK-12 stakeholders want to get out of

the conference.

Set conference goals. Sketch out a tentative agenda.

3. Set a date.

Can it be done on a K-12 professional

development day so that faculty are on

contract and no substitutes are needed?

4. Book a location

College Campus is good to "set the tone.

College campuses also tend to havemeeting spaces that may be reserved.

What can K-12 contribute (e.g. can

they pay for substitutes so that K-12faculty can be released to attend?)?

6. Set up a registration system (e.g.through Survey Monkey).

Invite high school faculty, curriculum

specialists, administrators, college

faculty (especially math and English),

Adult Education faculty. Send an invitation that includes a

tentative agenda.

8.Gather materials, ask planning team

what items needed to be photocopied,

and put into a binder. Create discussion questions, PowerPoints,

activities, etc. Get copies of relevant

course syllabi.

Find useful web pages to share.

Identify various people to "lead" sessions. Identify support staff (e.g. student

assistants) to handle sign-in, tours, etc.
