At Cleveland Clinic, our strategy supporting supplier diversity is an inter-locking approach. It combines leadership support, metrics, strategic initiatives and policy to form the foundation of our program. We aim to develop a pool of diverse suppliers for increased procurement participation within Cleveland Clinic.

At its core, supplier diversity is important because it supports the communities we serve by leveraging our buying to grow businesses, which in turn help grow our city and region. We aim to support our enterprise’s

sustainability and provide economic vitality to our customers, suppliers and communities.

Just as the Cleveland Clinic is committed to integrating supplier diversity, we also strive to identify, and build relationships with suppliers that align themselves with similar values and standards. We therefore request that our supplier(s) explore ways to enhance their spend toward minority-owned, women-owned and other diverse subcontractors in the products and services provided to us.

To be sure, we have taken some critical steps to solidify our supplier diversity program in recent years. We look forward to building up those successes to create a world-class program that drives economic inclusion and value.

The endorsement, signed September 16, expressed the intent of each organization to make Community Benefits a priority in planning and developing projects. It was signed by: Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Dominion East Ohio, Geis Companies, MetroHealth, The Medical Center Company, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Case Western Reserve University, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Working through the Commission on Economic Inclusion, the Greater Cleveland Partnership played a significant role within the public-private partnership that created the MOU, signed in February by the City of Cleveland, organized labor, the business community, local contractors and organizations to help drive investment in Cleveland in a way that creates direct benefits for local residents and businesses.

"Cleveland is experiencing tremendous positive economic momentum and everyone should benefit from it. This historic agreement, which now has the endorsement of several key project owners, provides the framework we need to support the inclusion of local residents and businesses in the city's construction boom," said GCP President and CEO Joe Roman.

Construction Mentor/Protégé Program Launched

Seven Minority Business Paired with Prime Construction Firms in Multi-Year Partnership

At Cleveland Clinic, it is not enough to provide World Class care to our patients and families at the bedside. The role of caregiver extends throughout our halls, out the doors into the communities we serve.

Caring for Northeast Ohio means leveraging our spend to create economic opportunities for those who need it most.

In 2014, we collaborated internally and with external suppliers to bring an innovative approach to grow medium-sized businesses through construction projects. The Construction Mentor/Protégé Program is designed to develop minority business enterprises within the construction and design field. Representatives from 2 architectural contractors, 5 construction management companies and 7 minority business enterprises (MBEs) formed a multi-year partnership. The ultimate goal enables these firms to competitively bid on larger construction projects in the future, both within and outside of Cleveland Clinic.

This partnership is a working example of Cleveland Clinic’s ongoing community economic involvement and support of supplier diversity.

Historic Community Benefits Agreement Signed

In September 2013, 10 private- and public-sector leaders including Cleveland Clinic, representing billions of dollars of current and future construction projects in the City of Cleveland, endorsed key sections of the historic Community Benefits Agreements Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote inclusion in hiring and contracts.

representatives from business development agencies,

community development corps, and governmental

offices meets quarterly with Supply Chain Management,

Buildings and Properties leadership and Operations

executives to offer feedback, insight, and ideas on

increasing our diverse supplier pipeline. Participating

Step 1: RegistrationTo register, visit the ‘Vendor Information’ tab at: http://app.suppliergateway.com/clevelandclinic/

Qualified diverse firms must be certified woman-, minority-, or veteran-owned. Registering as a supplier does not automatically place your company on a ‘bidder’s list’, constitute approval of your firm as a ClevelandClinic supplier, or obligate Cleveland Clinic to solicit a request for quotation. It does, however, allow us to better understand your firm’s capabilities, experience, and abilities to meet Cleveland Clinic goals and objectives.

Step 2: MatchingUpon receipt of your registration information, our sourcing teams will evaluate your company against current and future needs. If there is a business fit, you may be contacted by Cleveland Clinic to assess participation in our sourcing process.
