this area is looking markedly different. The level for the court space will be very

this project includes:

the provision of natural shade and

We are also keen to minimise gardening maintenance requirements.

Second Hand Uniform Sale

Anne Hoye and Mel Jeffcott have recently organised a second hand uniform sale. This produced a wonderful

result in that many items in very good order were sold between $2 and $5 and so parents received a bargain

and the school received $1,900 which will be allocated to our grounds development project. I extend my

sincere thanks to the many parents who donated items of clothing. Special thanks go to Anne and Mel for their

Last Day of School: Friday 19 December: School Dismissal 1.30pm

Parents and community members are reminded that that last day of school is Friday 19 December and

children will be dismissed at 1.30pm. There will be a final assembly for the whole school commencing

at 12.45, this will be conducted at the Alhambra stage. Apart from some musical performances and

special awards, this assembly focuses on farewelling our Year 6 students. All community members are

warmly invited to attend.

Fundraising

Our school’s Fundraising Committee has had a very successful year with a variety of fundraising events

and activities - some that have targeted the entire family, others parents and some, children only. The

activities and total raised includes:

Movie night on the oval $6,500 Comedy Night $ 1,400

Lego Movie $1,400 Teenage Mutant Ninja $ 400

How to train a dragon $1,000 Saturday Sausage Sizzle $ 600

Art Trail Kids on Canvas $4,660 Art Trail food/drinks $ 1,500

Kids Disco $2,000 Trivia Night $14,000

Christmas Trees $1,800 State Election $ 4,500

The total raised for the year was $44,360, this is a wonderful result and my thanks go to the industrious

members of the Fundraising Team including: Sarah Rowley - convenor, Kylie Jones, Fiona

Gathercole, Hannah Jenns, Sharon Fulton, Melinda Pordage, Justine Tuffley, Will McGowan,

Wendy Anthony, Samantha Schwarz, Taryn Weis and Kirsty Hunt who have worked tirelessly all

year for our school.

Justine Tuffley and Fi Gathercole coordinated the Christmas Tree Drive recently. Last week we had

50 Christmas trees delivered and a team of Santa elves assisted with delivering them to homes. The

elves who were suitably dressed in the Christmas theme included: Darren Forbes, Tim Branson, Peter

Flockart, Shaune Jackson and Troy Morris. Sincere thanks go to Justine, Fi and our dads for their

time and effort with this fundraiser.

The Election Day stalls were extremely well supported with an army of volunteers assisting with

cooking and serving sausages and bacon and eggs throughout the day and a similar number who worked

baking and icing and labelling cakes before the day and then serving on the Saturday. As always at

Hampton, these occasions create a wonderful community atmosphere with so many coming along to

support and provide assistance.

Thank you to our sausage sizzlers including: Simon Buckley, Sharon Fulton, Mike Morgan, Nadine

Seddon, Amy Atchison, Kate Garlick, Adrienne Todman,Guy Palmer, Glenn Ockerby, Nick Yu, Martin

Storey, Chris Sando, Greg Bentley, Caroline Muller, Julie Daniell, Carmen Barnett, George Morison

and Natasha Burns.

Thank you also to the many parents who baked a cake for the stall either on the Friday or Saturday, we

had a wonderful array of tempting cakes which were quite quickly snaffled by the numerous community

members who came to vote. Special thanks go to Kim Buchanan and Melinda Pordage, Lou Hunter

who set up all the preserves and to Rose Karamitos who did all the magnificent icing on the 300

cupcakes the day before. In addition, some of the children helped out, particularly with set up and

roving cupcake sales - Amy & Sean Buchanan, Sophie & Lily Beasley, Emily Cope and Jorja Hunter.

We also had some help from Sam Schwarz collecting the cakes on Friday. In addition a group of grade

6 kids helped us assemble the cake packs at lunchtime (Ryan and Hamish Allen, Lachie Briggs, Jack

Olivier, Bella Sewards, Rebecca Elliot).

Meeting for Parents regarding Year 4 to 5 Transition: Monday 8 December at 6pm

On Monday of next week a meeting has been scheduled for parents of children currently in Year 4.

The focus for the meeting is on children transitioning from Year 4 into the new BER building which

includes a very large shared space. Teachers will be available to discuss the Year 5 program and how

the learning space works. We recognise that for some children moving from one year to another can

be a little unnerving. During the session the specifics on the BYOD iPad program including practical

advice, technical details and recommendations for purchasing will be discussed. This meeting will be

held in the BER building from 6 until 7pm.

School Fees

This week we have received a number of payments for school fees for 2015, thank you to the many

families who have done so. Please organise for any outstanding payments to be made by this Friday 5

December or make contact with the Business Manager, Nicole St. Leon. Stationery Packs are being

ordered on Monday and unfortunately if payment has not been made we are unable to guarantee that

stationery will be available for your child for the beginning of the 2015 school year.

Assembly

I extend my thanks to 4B Banksias who led the singing of the national anthem at assembly yesterday.

Well done to Sophie Wake from 5/6F - Red Tingle who performed ‘Toccatina’ on keyboard. Sophie

played this with very energetic tune with great rhythm and dynamics. She is an accomplished

BAYCISS – 2014 Food & Gift Drive

Throughout last year, Hampton Primary conducted a very successful grocery donation drive

for BAYCISS and we are very keen to continue this in 2014. BAYCISS offers financial,

emotional and practical support to residents of Bayside who are experiencing hardship.

Hampton Primary is one of Bayside's biggest recipients of the BAYCISS Education Support

Program. In an effort to give back and help others in our local community, each family is asked

to provide non-perishable and no-date expired groceries. Any Christmas themed items eg,

puddings, biscuits, bons bons etc would be greatly appreciated as they can be used in

Christmas Hampers.

In addition, we are inviting every family to donate a Xmas gift suitable for a child. As a guide,

you might like to buy something for the same age and gender as your own child(ren) - this will

ensure we have a broad range of gifts to donate to BAYCISS. The presents can be wrapped,

and please include a gift card that indicates the age and gender of the recipient as a guide.

All donations can be delivered to school and will be collected from your child’s

classroom by year 5 & 6 volunteers. All donations will be delivered to

BAYCISS on Wednesday 17th December.

As always, thank you for your continued support to Hampton Primary and our local Bayside

families.

International Day of People with Disability The 3rd December is International Day of People with Disability. This is a day that aims to

promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity,

rights and well-being.

The main aim is to ensure all young Australians pursue and try to achieve their dreams of

being athletes or undertaking university degrees, and being successful in life.

Awards are given out to recognise people and organisations who are improving participation

for people with a disability in all walks of community life.

Most primary schools now have several students who attend school and have some form of

disability. Children with disabilities are now encouraged to attend main stream school and

participate in all walks of life.

International Day of People with Disability has a great website if you are interested in more

information.

community based organisation which has been providing support to children and families since 1895.

Based in Glen Waverley, we run a number of training courses including Certificate III in Early Childhood

Education and Care and Certificate III in Education Support. We have developed a strong reputation for the

delivery of high quality education as we only offer classroom based training (no online) with capped student

numbers to ensure our students are supported with a “hands on’’ approach to learning. Our Trainers hold indus-

try experience and are able to provide additional support for students who struggle with language and literacy

skills.

Both courses would be of interest to parents who are looking to start a new career working with children or for

those who already work with children and are looking to upskill. As a community organisation we would like to

provide a flyer which could go out with your school newsletter or write an article which could go in your school

newsletter. Please could you let me know whether this would be possible and whether there would be cost

associated as a not-for-profit organisation?
