What is a participatory approach?

Participatory approach is the approach

which is applied by the teachers to

learners to exposure language learners

the target language through issues of

concern to students.

The role of the students is the

expression “participatory” is

self-explanatory. Students are

active participant.

The Advantages1. It can provide an opportunity for often-disenfranchised groups to be heard2. A participatory planning process builds trust3. It implies respect for everyone in the community4. Logically, a participatory planning approach should be effective.

The Disadvantages1. A participatory process takes longer. 2. One determined individual can wreck the whole process if he's not handled well. 3. It may be difficult to assure that all the right people get to the table 4. A participatory planning process takes patience and commitment on everyone's part.

The techniques : discussion, debates, and problem posed by

the teacher are primary techniques

CONCLUSION

It begins with content that is meaningful. It isn’t the content of subject matter text, but rather content that is based on issues of concern to students. There is no formal tests but the teacher evaluates student in ongoing way in the classroom. The goal is to help students to understand the social, historical or cultural forces that affects their lives and then to help empower students to take action and make decision in order to gain control over their lives.
