Fees and Financial Help*Please note that fees will only be refunded if a classdoes not commence, NOT if a student withdraws.
Tuition Fees for 16, 17 or 18 year oldsPart-time students aged 16 – 18 pay no tuitionfees, only exam / registration fees and anyother course costs.
Tuition Fees for 19 year olds and overThere is a range of concessionary fees –contact the Student Services Manager for fulldetails on 0845 4086 202. Please note that wemay ask you for proof of benefits if relevant.
If you are 19 years old or over and in receiptof Income Support, JSA, ESA, Council Tax orHousing Benefit, Pension Credits or are anunwaged dependant of someone in one of theabove categories you will only need to pay£10 for many courses, plus the exam /registration fees.
If you are 19 years old or over and in receiptof Working Tax Credits you will pay only halfof the tuition fee for your course, plus theexam / registration fees.
If you study for more than 8 hours per weekyou may be entitled to a Welsh AssemblyLearning Grant to help with the cost of study.For more information go towww.studentfinancewales.co.uk.
You will be interviewed for any courses lastingmore than 100 hours, where support availableto you for your tuition fees will be discussed.

National VocationalQualifications (NVQs)Work based NVQ’s allow employers torecognise their employees existing abilities andenable them to develop new skills through‘competence-based’ qualifications.
Candidates learn practical, work-related tasksdesigned to develop the skills and knowledgeto do a job effectively.Therefore, taking anNVQ could be appropriate if a candidatealready has skills and wants to improve them,or if they are starting from scratch.
NVQs are assessed on practical assignmentsand a portfolio of evidence.An assessor willobserve and question the candidate about thetasks they carry out in their workplace.Therefore, candidates normally don’t need toattend College as all the assessment is carriedout in the workplace – making NVQ’s aflexible programme of study.

SustainabilityColeg Powys was awarded the Green DragonEnvironmental Standard at Level 2 inDecember 2009.To achieve this award theCollege introduced its own sustainability policy.A big feature of the Green Dragon Standardrequires that the College community reducesits carbon footprint.Things that you can do tohelp the College achieve the Green DragonEnvironmental Standard at Level 3 in 2012 andreduce its carbon footprint are:
Reduce energy consumption – turning offlights, computers, monitors and other electricalitems when not in use and reporting faults thatyou come across.
Recycle – use the bins provided for cans,bottles and paper.
Avoid wasting paper – think before you print!!

Moodle is a software package designed usingsound academic principles to help educatorscreate effective online learning communitiesand courses.
The www.epowys.net portal provides the gateway to the partners’ individualMoodle installation.
All the partners involved with this project are developing online courses within theVirtual Learning Environment.
These include a number of interactive learningactivities which complement the moretraditional electronic resources. Clients andstudents of the College can have Moodlemade available to them.

Learning Resource ServicesLearning Resource Centres are located on theBrecon and Newtown sites.There are alsoresources at the Ystradgynlais and LlandrindodWells sites.They provide a wide range of excellentlibrary and information services, open learning andvideo conferencing.The facilities are open atconvenient times in order to accommodate theneeds of a broad range of learners.
The centres themselves have a range ofresources including a wide range of books,newspapers, periodicals, a careers informationsection, drop-in IT facilities, e-resources, freewi-fi access and laptops are now available foruse within the Learning Resource Centres.
The resources support the huge variety ofcourses that are offered across the Collegesites. Learners can borrow from any of theLearning Resource Centres.
Careers Advice and Guidance
A Careers Wales Adviser visits the Collegeregularly to provide advice and guidance forfull-time and part-time students of all ages.Youcan make an individual appointment to discussyour future plans.
The Careers Adviser can provide informationand guidance on choosing college anduniversity courses; help with applications for jobs, training and courses; and help to put together a CV or personal statement.Additional support can be arranged forstudents who need extra help in planning their future.

Hafren, Newtown
Opened in 1982, Hafren is situated onLlanidloes Road, Newtown and has beenproviding top class entertainment as a venuefor local amateur groups for over 25 years.
Hafren has a seating capacity of 550, making itthe largest venue in Powys. It regularly hosts amassive variety of live performances fromKids’ Shows, Folk, Drama, Choirs, Brass Bandsand Orchestras through to Top Class Comedyand Pop Acts – in fact, anything andeverything!
With over 10,000 regular attendees and over 30,000 tickets sold annually the theatreprovides something for everyone in Powysand beyond.
The College’s Performing Arts students also make use of the venues facilities forperformances throughout the year.Tickets are available through the Box Office or online.
Hafren, in collaboration with Coleg Powys, isable to offer quality facilities for day conferences and meetings for groups in excess of 100.

Themes RestaurantThemes Restaurant at the College’s Newtownsite, is a working restaurant staffed solely by students who train in all aspects of thehospitality industry, from food preparation and professional cookery to hospitality and supervision.
The restaurant is open on Tuesday nights,where weekly themed evenings take placeoffering opportunities to try out menus fromall over the world, and on Thursday Eveningsyou can enjoy a preshow dinner before goingto Hafren.We are also open Tuesday,Thursdayand Friday lunchtimes, with the students oftencatering for up to sixty people at a time.

This professional training scheme is available to anybody who teaches young people and adults,and is particularly applicable to practising and aspiring, full and part-time teachers and trainers,within the broad field of continuing and post-compulsory education.
The course prepares teachers and trainers for employment within the Post-16 Sector.Theemphasis throughout the course is on helping participants to gain confidence and competenceby acquiring the essential skills, knowledge and understanding of successful practice.
