• AS LONG AS or PROVIDING THAT
mean “BUT ONLY IF”usually used in Conditional 1
e.g. They will win the match as long as they train regularly.
She will pay for dinner providing that it is not too expensive.

REGRETS [S + WISH / IF ONLY + S] + [past perfect]
used when we regret something in the past or we wished the past was different
e.g. I wish I had told her how much I loved her while she was alive.
I wish I had told him what I felt, but now it is too late, he’s dead.

• UNLESS = if + subject + [aux + not]means “IF NOT”ALWAYS used to express negative conditions

WISHES[S + WISH / IF ONLY + S] + [past simple/continuous]
used when we wished the present was differente.g. If only he told me the truth… I wish I had a dog. = If only I had a dog, I would…. If only I was like Sharon stone, I would be beautiful. I regret having told them the secret. OR I wish I hadn't told them the secret.
