Preface
Quality is the hallmark of this age. The Indian higher education system becomes
fully aware of the need for Quality. Quality and Excellence are highly inter-related. They
could not be attained on a fine morning. Organized and focussed efforts are needed to
achieve this goal. Moreover, very earnest, effective, efficient, proper, fair and planned
trial only can lead the scholars to success. No doubt the unplanned growth of higher
education coupled with lack of resources affects the quality of education. A careful equal
distribution of resources is also mandatory to achieve quality and excellence. Thus, the
UGC targets this kind of Quality in Higher education.
The quality of higher education is not a new concept But it has become
inevitable in this new era. It is something that the parents are demanding increasingly
and it emerges as a must to the contemporary governments. The UNESCO in its World
Conference Report 1998 explains the need of quality of higher education as follows;
“Quality is a complex, dynamic, historically constructed and multifaceted concept, often
defined by what is lacking rather than by its contents. It reflects national, regional and
global socio-economic, cultural and political visions. The issue of quality cannot be
dissociated from the quest for excellence and the need to establish evaluation criteria.
The Universities of higher education imply that there must be a concern to clarify the
standard of quality and relevance above and beyond the standards specific to given
context. A quality assurance system is the means by which an institution confirms to
itself and to others that conditions are in place for students to achieve the standards that
the institution has set”. So the higher education institutions cannot deviate from the track
of quality trails.
The Higher Education system mainly aims to provide training that will yield higher
calibre, responsible citizens and qualified workers. In recent years, the standardization of
academic education has led to the quality explosion in the field of higher education.
Thus the scenario is more conducive for reaping.
As a part of quality enhancement all the departments have conducted seminars
and quiz programmes. Various social and cultural outreach programmes took place
under the aegis of NSS, NCC, YRC and RRC. A series of curricular, co-curricular and
extra-curricular activities were also undertaken along with career guidance to develop
the personality of the students. The sincere and dedicated efforts of the members of the
staff have uplifted the standard of the institution to a higher level.
This report is a record of the achievements and accomplishments of those who
strive to promote quality of education in the campus. One can get a feel of our campus
vibrancy through this report. So we are proud enough in submitting this Annual Quality
Assurance Report (AQAR) of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of
Lekshmipuram College of Arts and Science, Neyyoor, for the academic year 2007-
2008 to the NAAC.

the welfare of downtrodden people in the society very near to our college.
At present 1380 students are studying in seven aided courses at the

follows with the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from this academic
year. The teaching-learning process is designed to give more emphasize
on skill and application to the existing knowledge dissemination and
acquisition process. Curricular activities are coordinated with co-curricular
and extra-curricular activities. Innovative teaching method is followed by
using OHP and LCD to provide new learning experience to the learner.
