Snøhvit LNG – Key FactsEurope’s First Baseload LNG Plant
• 4.3 MMTA LNG Production
• Located close to the World’s Northernmost Town - 800 km north of Polar Circle
• Ice Free Shipping Route because of Gulf Stream
• Application of Best Available Technology mandatory for State and Authority Approval
• Energy Efficient MFC® Refrigeration Process
• All Electric Driver Concept
• Emission Control (CO2, NOx) - Use of Aero Derivative LM 6000 Gas Turbines with Low NOx burners- Minimization of Flaring

Arctic Engineering - Definition
Arctic Engineering is an Approach that …
• addresses the specific requirements of arctic Sites for Process Plants
• comprises both - consideration of technical design details due to extreme weather conditions
(temperatures, wind, ice and snow) and - job execution strategies (concepts for pre-assembly, logistics, management of
subcontractors, etc.)
• takes care of the Owner’s expectations regarding Plant Operability, Regularity and Maintainability

Arctic Engineering – Analysis of Site Specifics
Snøhvit LNG at HammerfestCoordinates: 70° 39’ 48’’
● Location north of the polar circle
● Arctic Weather ConditionsWind – Snow – Ice
● Wind-Chill Factor
● Darkness during Arctic Winter
● Lack of regional infrastructure
9
Arctic Engineering – Analysis of Site SpecificsProject Requirements
Development of winterisation specifications for the LNG plant with special focus on operation, maintenance, safety and occupational health.
Ensure required plant regularity during given weather conditions.
Design specifications implemented for:
- Structural Integrity (buildings and structures to withstand snow and ice load)- Equipment Protection (heat tracing, precipitation shielding etc)- Working Environment and Personnel Protection
(wind/snow shielding, protection from falling ice, etc.)- Plant Design Solutions
(redundancy, equipment and material selection, definition of requirements towards suppliers)
- Operational Procedures

Arctic Engineering –Principles for Design and Project Execution
17
• Mechanical Design Specifications considering the appropriate loads relevant for the specific site (wind, snow, ice).
• Structural Shielding where necessary to protect operators and equipment (considering explosion load requirements to ensure compatibility with separate analyses).
• Maximum Modularisation and Prefabrication of „Pre Assembled Racks“ (PAR) and „Pre Assembled Units“ (PAU) in order to minimise heavy construction work on site.
• Use of Barge Concept to prefabricate the core of the plant in less difficult climate and shift construction and equipment integration activities to the middle and southern parts of Europe.
• Coordination of numerous construction yards delivering modules and equipment packages to Northern Norway
