Hoje, Pirenópo- lis, cidade dos Pireneus, é um dos mais ricos acervos patrimoniais do Centro-Oeste tombado pelo Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional desde 1988. Sua economia é baseada na agropecuária, na exploração de pedra quartzito, no comércio e no turismo. Perto de Brasília e Goiânia, possui aeroporto com pista de 1.300 metros, balizamento noturno e he- liporto. Pirenópolis conta com diversificada rede de hotéis, pousadas e campings, além de restaurantes que servem desde a boa comida regional à cozinha internacional. Em suas estreitas ruas e ladeiras coloniais lojas oferecem autêntico artesanato. Tem dois hospitais e as agências bancá- rias do Banco do Brasil, Itaú e Bradesco. O visitante encontrará ainda uma natureza vigorosa e característica protegida, cachoeiras de rara be- leza e em cada casa, rua e praça a cordialidade de um povo hospitaleiro e amigo. Pirenópolis, named for its location in the Pireneus Mountains, began in 1727 as “Nossa Senhora do Rosario da Meia Ponte”. Today it is listed as part of the rich historical and artistic heritage of the Central West. Close to Brasília and Goiânia, with its own airport, the town has a well developed infrastructu- re for hospitality including quaint lodges, hotels and restaurants with regional and international cuisine. The village is home to a variety of Artisans including unique shops and local craftwork. It is famous for its ecological sanctuaries, beautiful waterfalls and special location in the Brazilian Savannah. Visitors will enjoy wandering the cobblestone streets and the cordiality of the local citizenry. Cultura e Folclore Festa do Divino Espírito Santo Patrimônio Cultural Brasileiro A Festa do Divino foi trazida ao Brasil pe- los jesuítas portugueses para atrair negros e índios para o cristianismo. Com o tempo assi- milou costumes brasileiros. Introduzida em Pi- renópolis na metade do século XIX é mesclada de festejos religiosos e profanos, constituída de novenas, folias, procissão, missa, roqueira, mascarados, cavalhadas e pastorinhas. Consi- derada a festa mais importante da cidade. Festival of ‘Divino Espírito Santo’ The Festival of the Holy Ghost was brought to Brazil by the Portuguese Jesuits to attract Africans and Indians to Christianity. It was introduced in Pi- renópolis in the middle of the nineteenth century. A mix of religious and secular celebrations, it is con- sidered the most important festival of the city. As Cavalhadas São jogos medievais de cavalaria encenados pela primeira vez em 1826, por iniciativa do Padre Manuel Amâncio da Luz quando impera- dor da Festa do Divino. De origem portuguesa, simboliza a histórica luta entre o imperador do Ocidente, o cristão Carlos Magno e os mouros, muçulmanos, que invadiram a Península Ibérica. Duram 3 dias. The Cavalhadas The ‘Cavalhadas’ is a medieval cavalry spectacle performed since 1836 as part of the ‘Festa do Divino’. It was originated in Portugal symbolizing the battle between the Christians and the Moors during the inva- sion of the Iberian peninsula. It lasts for 3 days. Roteiro Histórico Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Rosário Construída entre 1728 e 1732. Foi total- mente restaurada após o incêndio de 2002. É considerada uma das maiores construções de taipa de pilão do Centro Oeste. Aberta a visitação diariamente. Church of the Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Rosário Constructed between 1728 and 1732, it was totally restored after a fire in 2002. It is considered one of the largest examples of clay construction fortified with bamboo in the Central West. Open daily for visitation Theatro de Pyrenópolis Construído em 1899, por iniciativa de Se- bastião Pompeu de Pina com o apoio da comu- nidade Pirenopolina. Pirenópolis Theater Constructed in 1899, under the initiative of Sebastião Pompeu de Pina with the support of the community. Casa de Câmara e Cadeia e Museu do Divino Construída em 1919 como réplica da original que existia ao lado da Igreja Matriz manteve a função original até 1999. Hoje funciona como Museu da Festa do Divino. City Chambers, Prison and Museum of the Divine Built in 1919 as a replica of the original hou- se that existed next to the church of Matriz. Today it runs as the Museum of the Festa do Divino. Museu das Cavalhadas Particular, mostra material alusivo às Cavalhadas: roupas, máscaras, foto- grafias e reportagens. The Cavalhadas Museum A private museum with exhibits of exlu- sive material from the Cavalhadas: clothes, masks, photoghraphs and newspaper re- ports. Cine Pireneus Inaugurado em estilo Neoclás- sico, teve sua fachada alterada em 1936 para o estilo Artdeco. Pireneus Cinema Inaugurated in neoclassic style, it had its facade altered in 1936 to the cur- rent Art Deco style. Ponte Sobre o Rio das Almas A primeira foi construída nos tempos de arraial e a atual que liga a cidade ao bairro do Carmo em 1903. Dela avista-se a Casa de Câmara e Cadeia. Bridge over the River of Souls The first bridge was constructed when Pirenópolis was just a small village and the present bridge which joins the city to the Carmo district, was built in 1903. From it you can see the City Chambers and the Prison which is now a museum. Igreja Nossa Senhora do Car- mo e Museu de Arte Sacra Construída pelos escravos em 1750 por iniciativa de Luciano Nunes Teixeira e An- tônio Rodrigues Frota. Church of Our Lady of Carmo and Mu- seum of Sacred Art Constructed by slaves in 1750 under the initiative of Luciano Nunes Teixeira and Antônio Rodrigues Frota. Igreja Nosso Senhor do Bonfim Construída entre 1750 e 1754 por iniciativa do Sargento-Mor Antônio José dos Campos possui belíssima ima- gem do Senhor do Bonfim em tamanho natural. Aberta diariamente. Open daily. Fazenda Babilônia Uma das fazendas mais antigas de Goiás com imenso e belíssimo casarão colonial construído por escravos. Aberto a visitação aos sábados, do- mingos e feriados oferece excelente café goiano sertanejo. The Babylonia Farm An exemplary example of the beautiful colonial farmhouses of Goiás. The construction is ancient, immense and was built by slaves. It is open for visits on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays offering an excellent country breakfast. O Artesanato Diversificado por um universo de artesãos que trabalham tecelagem, cerâmica, madeira, palha, papel e doces é encontrado nas charmosas lojas e feiras da cidade. Local Crafts Hand loomed and woven goods, pottery, handmade paper and straw products along with homemade preserves are among the products to be found in the char- ming shops and fairs.
