These QR codes have been around since 1994 and are used all over the world, particularly in tech heavy countries like Japan, Korea and the UK.

They can contain almost any type of information and were initially used for stock and product codes at Toyota. Now used in marketing, tracking, entertainment and instore product labeling.

QR codes can store addresses and Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) may appear on almost any object about which users might need information. If you have a camera phone equipped with the correct reader application, you can scan the image of the QR code to display text, contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a web page in the telephone’s browser. This act of linking from physical world objects is termed “hardlinking” or “object hyperlinking”.
