Pick up the latest version of our Parks and Trails brochure for new areas to discover! Inclusive Playground at Maffeo Sutton: Phase 1 is underway and will be completed this spring.The City is partnering with the Nanaimo Child Development Centre, Children’s Health Foundation ofVancouver Island and other community organizations to improve this playground. The overall re-development of this project will be done over several phases. Parkway Trail Improvements: Last fall, this popular 26-kilometre multi-use trail saw 6 sections or 2.25 km re-paved. Paved areas included behind Rotary Bowl, at Westwood Road and several sections near the Northfield Rest Area. More paving improvements are planned for this year. Harewood Skateboard Park: A new and highly anticipated skateboard park located at Harewood Centennial Park will be completed in June. Serauxmen Stadium Lighting: Serauxmen Stadium will get lights making it Nanaimo's first ever lit ball field. This project should be completed in late spring. COMING SOON TO A PARK NEAR YOU! Go bird watching at Buttertubs Marsh. You may even see a Painted Turtle sunning on a log! Walk along the Georgia Greenway located between Sixth and Seventh Street. Take your four-legged friend to one of the City’s off-leash dog areas. Play a round of disc golf at Bowen Park. Do a circuit workout at the Oliver Woods Outdoor Wellness Park. Build a driftwood fort at Neck Point Park. While you’re there, find the fairy doors. Try out the new inclusive equipment at the Maffeo Sutton Playground. Go mountain biking in Linley Valley Park or Westwood Lake Park. Skateboard at May Richard Bennett Skate Park or Harewood Centennial Park (starting in June).
