3. PORTRAIT MODIFIED LIGHT – FILL FLASH When you use fill flash during the day, you can easily run into over-exposure problems. This problem is caused by the camera’s FLASH SYNC SPEED. This problem can be solved by using a setting called HIGH SPEED SYNC.

PROBLEM – Flash Sync Speed 1/8 1/15 1/30 1/60 1/125 1/250 1/500 1/1000 1/2000 1/4000 1/8000

PROBLEM SOLVED – High Speed Sync 1/8 1/15 1/30 1/60 1/125 1/250 1/500 1/1000 1/2000 1/4000 1/8000

What is flash sync speed ? • Fastest shutter speed possible w/ flash • Typically about 1/200 or 1/250 • Faster shutter speeds would create a

shutter-shadow • PROBLEM: Camera wants faster shutter

to block it light = Exposure Warnings • PROBLEM: You would have to sacrifice

aperture to solve exposure warnings

What is high speed sync? • Camera can use any shutter w/ flash • Less exposure warnings • You won’t have to sacrifice Aperture • PROBLEM: Reduces power of flash • PROBLEM: Flash won’t freeze fast action. • PROBLEM: Not available for Nikon 3000

and 5000 series cameras
