Park Redevelopment
Our job, us being the park redevelopment committee, our job as we see it, is to bring your (our community residents) suggestions, donations and needs forward to our city project managers and assist in the design of our new playground and park space area. We do surveys, fundraising, and consultation to facilitate that job and we try to communicate our progress, challenges and successes to you regularly through this community newsletter. Once we bring forward these elements, the city project managers continue to complete the project to the specifications and requirements of the city standards. They create the construction drawings, bid and select the construction company, monitor the project progress and inspect and maintain the finished park amenities and furniture. We have only minor influence in this area, it is really completely owned and operated by the City of Edmonton at that point.
We would like this month to say a Big Thank You to the City of Edmonton. They have made a significant investment into our community with this new spray deck and picnic shelter.
Phase I –Project accounting (rounded and consolidated for simplification purposes)
City of Edmonton $245, 000 Plumbing and Ground Preparation Work done
Community Grants and Donations:
NPDP Grant $62,500 mainly Picnic Shelter and Park Furniture
CFEP Grant $55,000 mainly Enhanced Water Features and Rubber Surfacing
ECF Grant $8,500 various landscaping and other
Community Donations $1,500 Brickwork and donor appreciation area
Total: $ 127,500
Total Project Cost: $ 372,500
Grants: Neighbourhood Development; Community Facility Enhancement; Community Foundation
Phase 2
** the majority of Community League Casino Funds and Park Fundraising dollars are being retained for Phase II con-struction….. we need $250,000 to match the $250,000 available in the NPDP program.
Currently we have: $ 197,700 and we are projecting another $ 20,000 to come in.
We are still applying for grants and encouraging donations, however we will be proceeding with the project scope and budget based on the funds available to date. Some amenities in our overall plan will be forwarded to the community league executive for consideration in future community league endeavors. The city budget for construction projects in 2012 has been cut dramatically and that may affect our project start date, we will keep you posted.
T hat’s a wrap for this 2011 year…………….. Park Redevelopment wishes you the best of the season, and wishes you the best with your personal wrapping endeavors!
Take care and play safe!
