Separate and crush your items if possible, and feel free to get some bags from us to reuse for next time. Please note, because of Spring Break, the April collection will be on the third Wednesday—April 20.

LEAD Column

(Legislation for Education and Advocacy Digest)

By Darshana Patel, VP of Legislation

Funding Conundrums…Balanced Funding

In a meeting with retiring Associate Superintendent Malliga Tholandi, I learned that PUSD really is in a good

financial position, despite the “location problem” we have. She says “location problem” because in the old

state funding system, called Revenue Limited Funding, beach cities were favored due to property tax revenue

plus the standard $120/student annual funding from the state. In the new system of LCFF, the border cities get

more aid funding because 50% of their students fit into the categories of low income, English learners, or fos-

ter care. But she stressed that “our core is strong” because we have very high attendance rates (maximizing our

per-student funding) we have a very supportive community, and our budget allocations are all based on clear

funding formulas.

She showed me some examples of how PUSD has to make real adjustments to compensate for the reduced

revenue we get compared to other similar districts. For example, PUSD spends less than similar USDs when it

comes to certified and classified staff. We also offer significantly reduced benefits packages to those employees.

If you look at the table, you can see that while we are lower in all categories, our bigger cuts (or savings) are

through significant reductions with “services and operating expenditures”. Despite our reduced revenue

sources, we manage to allocate a near equitable amount to books and supplies (93% of comparable districts).

I left her office confident that there are systems in place to ensure that PUSD will remain a top tier public

school district, even after she retires.

The Poway Unified School District (PUSD) is an equal opportunity employer/program and is committed to an active Nondiscrimination Program. PUSD does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, ethnic group identification, ancestry, religion, gender, gender identification, mental or physical disability. Support Group for Parents of Children with ADHD/ADD

TOPIC: Improving Brain Function to Reduce ADHD/ADD Symptoms What Makes the Brain Work Better Naturally? Dr. Greg Cantu's breakthrough brain evaluation

and treatment process is a new approach that helps the brain to heal, instead of just treating the symptoms. Activation EEG is a natural method that creates long lasting improvements by pin-pointing and treating the brain’s "hardware" problems that cause symptoms. When the exact prob-lem areas are uncovered and addressed, the brain naturally functions better. To truly heal the brain the underlying cause must be treated, not just the symptoms.

SPEAKER: Dr. Greg Cantu, D.C., Brain Specialist Dr. Greg Cantu is the founder and clinical director of BrainandBody in Encinitas, California. He

has been providing natural healthcare for over 30 years and specializing in the brain for over 20 years. His expertise is in the functional evaluation and treatment of the brain, which began during his recovery from his own head injury. Dr. Cantu uses a natural approach together with the latest technology, including EEG Neurofeedback, Functional Neurology, Neurotransmitter Therapy and Microcurrent for the brain.

Solarfuze is your neighborhood solar company.

At Solarfuze we specialize in custom solar solutions for use in everyday facilities and structures. We provide customers with a wide range of solar panels and solar power systems for rooftop, carport, ground installation and canopy structures. Our top-of-the-line services provide our customers with everything they need to know about solar energy and how to take advantage of energy savers, to last a lifetime.

Solarfuze has done numerous installations in the Park Village neighborhood. Based on the feedback we have received from our customers, Solarfuze will be the leading Solar Company in Park Village. As you may have noticed, SDG&E rates have been increasing continuously, and the last two years it has shown a significant change. Electrical bills have gone up and may continue to go up. Also, Net Energy Metering (NEM 1.0) is reaching close to its limit of allowing 5% of rooftop solar to be connected to the SDG&E grid. The NEM 2.0 coming early next year does not carry the similar benefit that generous 1.0 offer does for next 20 years. Now is the time to harness the power of the sun to provide cleaner energy, and at the same time, you will have a great return on your investment. Right now is the best time to ensure you receive you 2015 30% tax credit and grandfathered to NEM 1.0. Solarfuze is a proud member of the Better Business Bureau with an “A+” rating alongside five stars on Yelp. We are confident that you will be more than satisfied with our products and services. Please visit our website at www.solarfuze.com or give us a call at (858) 729-8788 and we will be more than happy to familiarize you with the many benefits of solar energy and how it can help you. Customer Testimonials “It’s been about 18 months since we had our system installed from Solarfuze and everything has been great … The process went smoothly and the result was a very professional, quality job” – Victor Chan.

“If you are looking for a dependable, knowledgeable solar company with great customer service, I would recommend Solarfuze”- Ike Reynolds.

“From day one they went over and above our expectations … Now that we have solar energy it is fantastic! We can run the a/c during the hottest time of the year with our solar power. It also powers our electric car … They will take care of you!” – Teresa Backer.
