Park View has been on an extraordinary journey for a long period of time. Our talented team of teaching and support staff has made us one of the most improved schools in the country. Whether your child is gifted and talented, has English as an additional language or has special educational needs, Park View is the right choice – providing challenge, raising aspirations and offering fun learning experiences. With new buildings featuring state-of-the-art facilities, these are exciting times for Park View. The investment is helping us in our mission to enable every student to achieve his or her full potential. To do this, we focus not only on learning but on all aspects of development, helping pupils to become responsible young people with the skills required for a secure future. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their education and environment and they respond with enthusiasm. We are enriched by our cultural diversity (as arguably the world’s most diverse school) and committed to inclusion.

Please come and discover for yourself what we have to offer – we look forward to welcoming you at one of our open events. Our website is updated very regularly and will give you a full flavour of life at Park View.

We provide a safe learning environment with a firm anti-bullying culture and our staff work hard to make students feel happy, secure and confident. In return, we demand very high standards in terms of behaviour, attendance and uniform. We foster an ethos of respect for self and others, which results in a strong sense of community.

Our students benefit from personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education that is taught in curriculum and form tutor time. By exploring topics such as relationships and personal finance, our young people develop the confidence to make positive life choices.

We nurture all pupils through personalised support – from special care for our new year 7s right through to careers and further education advice for year 11s. Our non-teaching Year Team Deputies are focused on pastoral support and some students have also been trained as peer mentors. Pupils and their families have access to exceptional support services at school and a range of local providers.

SUPPORT

The school understands that students’ happiness is the key to achievement in all areas of learning.

Our vibrant curriculum – including a broad range of GCSE and BTEC courses – is designed to spark interest in every child. Teachers provide the right level of challenge for each student, setting personalised targets, monitoring progress and providing additional support if required. We focus on developing independent learning skills and nominate Lead Learners as role models.

Our Performing Arts specialism enables us to use drama, music and dance to build pupils’ confidence in a way that benefits all areas of learning. Students participate in creative workshops and productions in school and in the community, and we are proud to have achieved the prestigious Artsmark Gold award.

ICT is used innovatively across the curriculum and our school demonstrated by our retention of the ICT Mark. We also use our managed learning environment (MLE) to promote e-learning at school and at home.

With a strong focus on literacy, our average class size in English is 22. Our specialist teaching staff ensure that students with English as an additional language or with special educational needs participate fully in the life of Park View.

To develop students’ interests, aptitudes and team-building skills, we provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities. As well as sporting, creative and coursework clubs before school, at lunch time and after school, we offer Saturday schools for various ethnic groups and a breakfast club every weekday.

Pupils get the opportunity to enjoy inter-school competitions, educational outings and foreign visits for sporting tours, field trips or develop language skills. Our students relish special theme days such as the school’s international festival, ‘Parkstock’.

Our young people know that their opinions count. With an elected school council and year councils, many students get the opportunity to participate in the development of Park View. Open to all years, our student leadership programme gives pupils responsibilities as translators, supervisors, participants in staff recruitment.

We work in partnership with families to ensure that students make the best possible progress at Park View. Parents and carers are kept informed through regular newsletters, text messages and the MLE. All our staff are accessible via e-mail, telephone or in person at the school to deal with any concerns.

By offering a range of extended services to students, their families and the local community, we contribute to the vitality of the neighbourhood and promote lifelong learning. As well as providing activities outside of school hours and during holiday periods for young people, our site is home to a community Learning Centre, which offers a wide choice of adult education and training courses.

We have strong partnerships with local primary and secondary schools and foster links with a diverse range of businesses to secure speaker visits and work experience placements.

Our students are encouraged to celebrate their cultural diversity and develop their global awareness. Staff and pupils participate in a number of projects with schools worldwide and we are proud to have achieved the full International Schools Award.
