1800’s land is designated as one of two panhandles of Golden Gate Park

1903 private owners purchase space for road from the Park to the Presidio

1906 earthquake, it becomes campsite for homeless 1909 planting areas are created along carriage road and

horseback trail First coast-to-coast highway starts in New York and ends

at ‘Park Panhandle’; 1927 Marker at California St. & 14th Ave. dedicates this highway to Abraham Lincoln
