*If you wish to attend weekend Mass in person at St Mary’s or the Tuesday Mass at Our Lady Star of
the Sea you MUST BOOK a space. This is due to the 2m distancing rule that is still in place, meaning
that the number of people that can be accommodated in our churches is very limited. Please email or
telephone before 4.00pm each Friday.
Thank you to all for your continued support. Stay safe. God Bless. Fr Tim

‘Listen, listen to me and you will have good things to eat and rich food to enjoy. Pay attention, come to me; listen, and your soul will live. With you I will make an everlasting covenant out of the favours promised to David.’
(First Reading Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Isaiah 55:3)
Please continue to remember all those who are sick and housebound in your prayers: Mary Bryan, Anne Colson, Eileen Coyne, Ryan Dixon, Angela Ellis, Barbara Fentham,
Elsie Freeth, Catherine Grills, Margaret Jarvis, John Lewis, Mary Maguire, Robert Morrison, Maureen Pritchard, Marcus Rossini and David Watkins
We pray for the sick and housebound of our parish, our friends, relatives and those who have asked for our prayers:
Anna & Bronislaw, Conall & Siobhan, Emma, Garry, Helle, Jamie, Keith, Margaret, Maria, Martin Ginnelly, Mike, Peter
(please email [email protected] if you would like to add a name to the list)
Switching over to direct giving It would be a great help to the Parishes if parishioners would begin to give their weekly/monthly collection money by Standing
Order. Our bank now charges us for paying in cash, and the lack of branches makes it harder to make deposits. Giving by
standing order also takes away the risk involved in respect of COVID-19 and cash handling. We need as many parishioners as
possible to give by Standing Order. This is also a good time to reassess your giving to your parish. When is the last time you
increased your giving? How realistic is your giving compared to the needs of the parish and the number of people who support
it? Could you increase your giving simply by signing up to the gift aid scheme? The forms to make this change are available
on the website or alternatively you may call the office and they can be posted out to you. Thank you to all those parishioners
who have already responded and filled in a standing order form. This really does make a huge difference.
Opening Times for St Mary’s and Our Lady Star of the Sea St Mary’s is open for Mass. Please see the timetable on the front of the newsletter. There are only 30 spaces
and the Church can only hold a maximum of 50 people. For weekend Masses you will need to email
[email protected] or telephone 01656 652034 option 2 to book a space. Please do this before 4pm on Friday each week. If you have not booked please DO NOT ATTEND.
*******************************
Our Lady Star of the Sea will be open for “Private Prayer” and Mass on Tuesday 4th August.
Mass will be at 10am followed by Exposition until 1pm.
We are sadly limited to 16 people in the Church. Please if you are over 70 have any illnesses or are still
shielding we ask that you do not come on Tuesday.
If you wish to attend Mass, please contact Fr. Tim on [email protected] or telephone 01656 652034 option 2
to book a place. If you have not booked please DO NOT ATTEND. If you are contacting us by phone PLEASE
make sure you leave your name and contact details in order for your place to be confirmed.
I know some parishioners have keys to the church, due to the cleaning regimes that need to be in place please
DO NOT USE THE CHURCH for private prayer other than times when it is open.
For more Masses to resume more volunteers are needed so please do consider whether you could help.
If you wish to volunteer or for any other queries please contact Fr. Tim (see above).
My thanks on your behalf to all who have made this opening possible.
******************************
On the website there is an update on what to expect at Mass as we get used to this ‘new normal’.
In each church, there is a one-way system. The stewards will seat you and this is unlikely to be in your usual
place, please follow their instructions. Please adhere to the strict social distancing guidelines and use the hand
sanitiser provided. There will be no toilet facilities available in church. If you have any COVID-19 symptoms (sore throat, cough, fatigue, lack of senses of taste or smell)
please stay home. If you should be shielding please stay home.
The office is closed until the 17th August, however you can still email [email protected] or telephone as messages will be monitored. Thank you to all the parishioners who
have generously volunteered as stewards /cleaners. The August rota for St Mary’s is now up and running and a WhatsApp group in place. To allow the continuation of
opening for Mass it is absolutely necessary to have as many volunteers as possible. The more volunteers we
have, the less the work for each person. Looking to the autumn if you would like to become part of the
volunteer team please let me know. Please note that to volunteer you must be below the age
of 70 and with no underlying health issues. Take care. Stay safe
Please note that funerals are not currently being held in our churches. If you have a baptism
query, please contact the Presbytery. Many thanks.
