Last November GSP parishioner, Rob Rauh, offered to serve as co‐Chancellor, and the Vestry welcomed and serve as co Chancellor, and the Vestry welcomed and approved his offer. 

At February’s Vestry meeting, Rob was approved as full Chancellor.  Welcome, Rob! And thank you for volunteering to serve in this important role!

This is a new Ministry, gathering together several groups that focus on hospitality at GSP. 

The French Club, under the leadership of Danielle Phillips, continues to meet weekly to practice language p y p g gskills and enjoy socializing.

The Bridge Club, led by Pat Williams, meets weekly on Thursdays to play cards, eat lunch, and socialize.

Fellowship Ministry:p y20s & 30s GroupTh   /    i   l   d  d   h  The 20/30 group is newly resurrected under the leadership of Holly Shinn and Mariel Watt. They had an initial planning meeting in April. 

About 10‐12 people attended and they could easily grow to a group of about 15. 

h d l l d fThey intend to plan regular activities and outings for the group.

Fellowship Ministry:  Coffee HourCoffee Hour is led by Kathy Allen and Phoebe Goodwin, plus a small group of dedicated volunteers. 

They keep the buffet table well stocked with food after both services on  Sunday. Donations of money are used to purchase coffee, tea and fruit 

h  punch. 

This ministry relies almost solely on food donations from parishioners. 

They have recently begun a new program to encourage people to participate by bringing snacks on a schedule based on the first letter of your last yname. 

Coffee Hour is one of our key ministries for welcoming new‐comers and we hope to continue welcoming new‐comers and we hope to continue to be able to provide an abundant table every Sunday. 

Fellowship Ministry:p ySpecial Events/Receptions CommitteeChris LaBour & Joan Cooney, Co‐Chairs 

Provide funeral receptions following Celebration of Life services for many GSP longtime members. Families greatly appreciate our efforts. We have also provided dinners for Rite 13 events, a discernment meeting, and snacks for Episcopal 101. We also rely on the generous donations of food by parishioners to supplement what we purchase.

The Pastoral Care Team consists of clergy, representatives from Community of Hope and Healing representatives from Community of Hope and Healing Touch as well as health care professionals.  

The Team meets monthly to review an ongoing list of 

Pastoral support includes:

approximately 50 parishioners who receive some type of ongoing pastoral support from the church.  

We meet to keep people from falling through the cracks 

visits to home, residence, or hospital; Communion;We meet to keep people from falling through the cracks 

and to determine if other supports are needed.  Some members of this group also monitor the Pastoral Care line after hours and on weekends

Ten active members 

Since January, they compiled 631 visits to 1,034 folks (and three dogs) during 1,074 volunteer hours. 

Visits range from individuals to groups  in homes  hospitals  and Visits range from individuals to groups, in homes, hospitals, and hospices and through  services such as Joseph's pantry, St. Andrew's Clinic, healing touch,  and lay Eucharistic visits. 

During the March meeting we brainstormed ideas with Johanna Rentschler for a health ministry at GSP. 

In the April meeting, Suzie Bourque, a caregiver specialist from Pima Council on Aging,  answered questions and provided resources on serving the elderly.

From January to April 2012 the Healing Touch clinics at GSP served 257 clients and received $994 82 in donations   and received $994.82 in donations.  Clinics are held in the Weeks Room 

Mondays from 7:30 to 9:00 pm Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. 

Certified practitioners are Miriam Huber, Anagrace Misenhimer,  Pat Dickson and Carol Forshey.

Social Justice & Outreach: Naco Border Walk on April 14

Three volunteers will be needed for each Saturday. If you're interested in working at least one Saturday per month, please contact Chris Ledyard or Andrew Gardner no later than Saturday, May 26th.

“I just started doing this during Holy Week‐‐ I have done 21 haircuts already  ‐‐ and I know it's something that makes people feel good  I'm that makes people feel good. I m doing the haircuts on Thursdays and by appointment on Mondays.

I have a friend who wants to help   I have a friend who wants to help.  Frank also is a huge help, he sweeps for me, sets up my tools, and also just about reads my mind when I need another toolanother tool.

Native Ministry NewsTh  R  D bbi  R lThe Rev. Debbie RoyalsGSP has been awarded $2,650 from the New Opportunities Native Ministry grant fund.  We l   l  l d  h   h  di   ill b  also recently learned that the diocese will be providing additional funds.

We held an Easter party for about 40 young children from Old Pascua last month.  

On Saturday April 21 we hosted an Earth Day community clean‐up in partnership with the community clean up in partnership with the Sahuaro Girl Scout Council.

The April 26 Spirit Now hosted a Navajo Medicine Man as a special guest. Included were elements of the Navajo traditional ceremony About 1/3 of the Navajo traditional ceremony. About 1/3 of those attending were new to GSP.

The April 19 Planning Meeting with 17 energetic attendees included a wide variety of issues and topics.  Two highlights:

The flagpole in front of the church is broken.  There is currently no way to raise and lower the flag, and we are working to resolve the issue.

Building & Grounds:gRaised bed makeover

The raised bed in front of the church is getting a makeover.  The yuccas, which obscure the beautiful entrance to the obscure the beautiful entrance to the church, will be removed and replaced with plants having a lower profile.  

The plan for the new planting incorporates drought ‐tolerant , low‐maintenance plants, many of which are already in use elsewhere in the church landscaping.

What’s been happening with Children, Youth & Family @GSPy @During Holy Week we had separate events for our young people and their families, including:

A Children’s Way of the Cross Good Friday serviceAn all‐night vigil or watch for our teens on Maundy Thursday into Good Friday. 

Young people also played a significant role in community wide Holy Week and Easter services  community wide Holy Week and Easter services, including Maundy Thursday, the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. 

Our team also planned and executed the Parish‐wide Easter party on Easter Sunday.

Since January, the youth have had the i     j   l “ id  opportunity to enjoy several “outside 

activities” including a trip to St. Jude’s, Phoenix and “glo” bowling.

Our youth drama group, directed by Jay Hornbacher has offered original and creative responses to the Gospel. p p

We gain new members after each presentation, because it looks like so much fun! It is fun, but is also a serious scriptural study group as the members seriously discuss how to offer an inclusive response to scriptural lessons  response to scriptural lessons. We currently have 11 members of this ministry group.

We now offer Spirit Dojo Karate on Monday and Wednesday evenings. 

This is an opportunity for families to participate together in healthy exercise that offers spiritual discipline that offers spiritual discipline and rewards to all participants. The Rev. Allen Breckenridge gleads this group.

On March 30, the Intermediate Sunday school group enjoyed a pasta and movie night  The party group enjoyed a pasta and movie night. The party was themed around the movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and featured a popcorn storm and a lot to eat!

Overall, we are doing exactly what we said we would do (back at the Annual Meeting, i.e. we are adjusting the budget quarterly   are adjusting the budget quarterly.

Experimental liturgies such as liturgical drama  are ways of responding to the Word.  These experiments continue to evolve, and are on the cutting edge of the Emerging
