A Reflection from the Pastor’s desk…November 11, 2018

Thirty-Second Sunday Of Ordinary Time Year B

On Thursday and Friday last week, we celebrated the feast of All Saints and the commemoration of All Souls. We might continue to question the reason behind these two celebrations given their unpopularity in our world today. You and I know that what is common, especially among children, is the Halloween frenzy. All Hallowed Day or All Saints' Day is a holy day of obligation celebrated every November 1. It is dedicated to all those who have made it into heaven. All Saints' Day is celebrated by

attending Mass and honoring the saints by visiting their holy shrines and offering prayers seeking their intercession. We honor the saints best by emulating their lives, by striving to become examples of holy, meritorious people, just as they were. How many people could you name whose lifestyles were saintly? Your mom, dad, grandmother or grandfather could certainly be one of them.

All Souls' Day is celebrated on November 2 each year. All Souls’ Day is dedicated to all those who are departed from this world and who wait in the faith of the promised Resurrection. Here we talk about the souls in Purgatory (not a popular term in our society). But it doesn’t need to be popular to be real. All Souls' Day is often celebrated by attending Mass, although it is not a holy day of obligation. Many people visit cemeteries or shrines dedicated to their loved ones and ancestors. On this day, we particularly ask for the repose of their souls and the intercession of the saints, for God to have mercy on them in accord with the promises of Christ.

On these days we face the truth of our mortality. Someday, we too will join our ancestors. These November traditions express our belief in the communion of saints – of which we are already a part. The Church militant, the Church triumphant, and the Church suffering commune in faith in November. As one of our prayers at Mass reads "with death, life is changed not ended." Our Masses and prayers this month voice our hope that Christ will eventually bring all of us home, together in perfect communion with God.

Good morning and Welcome to Sacred Heart Church. Today is the Thirty-second Sunday of the year. In the gospel, Jesus sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. While rich people put in large sums, a poor widow put in two small coins worth of a few cents. Jesus remarked to his disciples that the coins of the widow were worth more than the large sums of the rich. Please rise and join in singing hymn no… and know that God is good all the time.

Hospital Visitations-Due to the new privacy laws most hospitals are not notifying Father Linus of parishioners who are in the hospital. Blessing Bag Food Donations Needed

We are now working to gather the food items needed to complete the backpacks. Items such as boxes of tuna/chicken salad with crackers, small sticks of beef jerky, cans of Vienna sausages, fruit/pudding or Jell-O cups, individual size bags of chips, breakfast or granola bars,

packages of soup or oatmeal that hot water can be added to and water flavoring packets.
