FROM THE PASTORDear Friends in Christ,

This Sunday, and on every Sunday of August, the Church will continue to reflect on chapter six of the Gospel according to St. John, in which Our Lord presents Himself as the Bread of Life. About every two-three years, someone comes up with a new diet plan that is supposed to be the best way for people to lose weight. One lesson we might draw from this is that hunger never goes out of style. I think that fewer people would need to read a book about weight loss if it were possible to do away with hunger just by reading a book. At the same time that many people are trying to lose weight, other people are trying to figure out how to help people who do not have enough to eat this, too, seems to be a problem that will always be with us. To all of these people, Jesus says the same thing: “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” The message of Jesus is universal. It is the same for all because everyone has a hunger for a life that does not end.

Looking ahead, please note that August 15th, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, is a Holy Day of Obligation. A vigil Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m. Masses on Wednesday, August 15, will be at 8:30 a.m., 12:05 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.

Sincerely Yours, in Christ,Fr. Thomas Buffer
