All Souls Day – Annual Mass of Remembrance

On Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 6:00 p.m., family & friends of our dearly beloved deceased of the past year (from November 1, 2015 thru October 30, 2016) are invited to participate in our Annual Mass of Remembrance here at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church. Please call the office (732-545-5090) to ensure that your loved one’s name is included. We also ask that a family member bring a small framed photo (5x7 or smaller) of the deceased to Mass. Be sure that your name and phone number are listed on the back of the photo. The names of the deceased will be announced at which time you may place the photo at the side altar where it will remain throughout the month of November.

Pray for our Recently Deceased Mildred Keri

May her soul and all the souls of our faithful departed rest in peace

From the Pastor’s Desk Because October is the month of the Holy Rosary, I invite everyone to gather each weekday evening - Monday thru Friday - October 17 to 21 at 6 p.m. for the recitation of the Rosary and again on Monday & Tuesday, October 24 & 25 at 6 p.m. The devotions will culminate on the evening of Wednesday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m. with a Solemn Rosary recited in three differ-ent languages. We will begin the Rosary as the Fourth Degree Knights of Msgr. John A. O’Grady Assembly #664 will be pro-cessing into our church with a picture of the Holy Family which will be placed on the altar. Prayers will be offered in Consecration to the Holy Family. During this ceremony there will be an opportunity for married couples to renew their wedding vows. “The Holy Family of Nazareth is truly the ‘prototype’ of every Christian family which, united in the Sacrament of Marriage and nourished by the Word and the Eucharist, is called to carry out the wonderful vocation and mission of being the living cell not only of society but also of the Church, a sign and instru-ment of unity for the entire human race.” Again, I encourage all of you to attend and participate in this special devotion. Our Blessed Mother is calling upon us to pray the Rosary … let us answer the call! Yours in Christ,

Fr. Jimson Rev. Father Jimson Varghese, SDV

Thanksgiving Donations for Those in Need This year again, Knights of Colum-bus Council #6572 will collect Script Card donations to help those in need for the Thanksgiving Holiday. In this way it not only helps those in need but

our Parish as well. Rather than collecting food for baskets, the Council is requesting that gift cards for food be purchased at our Scrip Booth in the church vestibule. The cards must be in increments of $25 or more. All donors will be given a receipt (for tax purposes) for their donation; please call the office to request your receipt and one will be provided. The Knights are grateful for your cooperation and generosity in this endeavor. Be advised that the scrip cards will be distributed only to registered parishioners of the Par ish of the Visitation. Supplies are limited, so this will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please report to the Parish Office to register for the scrip cards. Thanksgiving Scrip Cards will be available for purchase beginning the weekend of October 22-23, 2016 after all weekend Masses.

R & R - Refresh and Refurbish Looking ahead, and with the desire to keep our Parish one in which we can remain proud, we have taken up two new projects detailed below. My dear people, you have been more than kind and generous in the past and I find myself in need of coming to you again for your support. New Attire for Altar Servers at St. Mary’s We are fortunate now to have fifteen altar servers at St. Mary’s and due to the wear and tear of the old cassocks we are in the process of pur-chasing new attire for them. The total cost for the surplice, alb and shipping is $90 per person. Thus far, we have received $50 towards the total amount needed which is $1,350. Any and all donations to this project would be most welcome and appreciated. New Chairs for the CYO You may have noticed that the chairs in the CYO are rusted and not in the best shape. We have investigated the possibility of repairing and repainting these chairs and found that the cost for that project would far outweigh that of purchasing new chairs. We have found nice replace-ment chairs at a cost of $20 per chair. Purchasing 200 chairs to replace the old ones presents us with an expense of $4,000.. As always, any and all donations are very much appreciated. You have my heartfelt thanks. God bless you abundantly for your sacrifices and generosity; please know that all of you are remembered in our daily prayers.

Religious Teachers Filippini Raffle Support this effort by purchasing a book of chances which will be on sale the weekend of October 22-23, 2016 in the church vestibule. All proceeds are used to benefit the senior sisters at Villa Walsh and those

residing in the infirmary. God bless you for your generosity and as-sistance in this effort. Thank you.

KID JOKES A six year old boy was overheard praying, “Lord, if you can’t make me a better boy, it’s ok. Don’t worry about it. I’m having a real good time just like I am.”

Advent Bible Study Advent is the beginning of the Church Liturgical Year. This season is one of anticipation and hope, although at its beginnings the em-phasis was much more on penitence, fasting and sin. For us Chris-tians it is not just a celebration of a moment in time when a baby was born, but also looks beyond to a time when the Bible tells us that Jesus will come again not as a weak and vulnerable baby but in pow-er and with authority. Therefore all parishioners are invited to this spiritual journey by participation in our Bible Study every Tuesday of Advent at 7:00 p.m. Let us come together and strengthen our faith commitment, continue in our hope to walk the road of faith and in-crease our understanding looking forward to our destination, which is to be in His presence forever! Please call the office (732-545-5090) to register for this class which will be held in the Parish Office Conference Room. Schedule: November 29, 2016 - “Coming to Execute Justice”– Isaiah 25:6- 26:6 December 6, 2016 - “Coming to Forgive Sins” – Ephesians 1:3-14 December 13, 2016 - “Coming to Renew Love” – 1 John 4:13-16 December 20, 2016 - Coming to Feed the Hungry – John 6:50-51

Words of Wisdom The cure of crime is not in the electric chair, but in the high chair. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6

October 16, 2016 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“…be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient...” 2 Timothy 4:2 It is not always convenient to be a good steward, especially when all the temptations of our busy and materialistic world get in the way. Now add our own pride and ego into the equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may be downright uncomfortable! Remember, God didn’t call us to be comfortable. He called us to be faithful.

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young

American soldier embarks on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
