A Prayer for World Health

Almighty and Ever Loving God, Creator of all things, in You we place our trust for guidance during this Coronavirus pandemic. Hear the prayers we offer for our elderly and those with chronic health conditions who are most vulnerable. Let their faith and

trust in You never weaken.

Allow Your heavenly knowledge to direct our medical professionals and researchers to find a solution for this sickness. Bless, with Your divine protection, doctors, nurses and

first responders, and surround us all with Your love.

Guide those in authority , O Lord. By the wisdom of our leaders and public health officials, along with the integrity of our citizens, may harmony be restored.

Look also with favor on the families and friends who mourn those who have died from this illness and comfort them in their loss. Console them in the hope that all who trust

in You will find peace and rest in Your Eternal Kingdom.

Calm this terror that threatens us. Protect our families, neighbors and friends and restrain our fears and anxiety. Grant that health, the fruit of life, may reign throughout

the world.

Amen

SUSTAINING MUSIC MINISTRYTo those of you who joined us this past weekend, first and foremost welcome back, and welcome home. It was great to see those of you that made the decision to return to the liturgy for the first time in months. Thank you for doing so in as responsible a manner as possible – maintain a safe distance, washing hands and using hand sanitizer judiciously, keeping masks on (and covering both your mouth and nose), and all other precautions necessary to mitigate the risk of transmitting and contracting the coronavirus. A special thanks to those who helped disinfect pews, doors, and other surfaces between Masses. We appreciate your help and cooperation in transitioning back into operation as a parish.

Incarnation Parish Bulletin

To those of you participating in the Mass from home via the online resources, thank you as well. Your decision to delay returning to parish activity keeps manageable the strain of balancing both the restrictions of public health guidelines and being available for the Sacrament. We are committed to continue providing these resources – broadcast Masses via YouTube, as well as online print resources such as a worship aid and bulletin – for as long as the need persists. We hope to see you back, too, but appreciate and respect your decision to do so at a later time.As many of you know, the archdiocesan guidelines regarding music in the liturgy are unprecedented. Because the virus is spread through droplets contained in the air we breathe out (and in), singing proposes a vastly higher risk than speaking – singing projects the voice, and with it, the breath, over a larger area and with a greater density. Therefore, the role of music and the participation of the assembly has been turned upside down. “[F]ull and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else…”, as set out in the Constitution of Sacred Liturgy, has been suspended (and rightly so) in the light of current awareness that the health and safety of the people of the Church is an undisputable priority. As such, choral and congregational singing has been suspended, and the vocal music of a soloist and psalmist is severely limited in this current environment. When and how these restrictions may be lifted is something about which I hope and pray constantly. I am saddened for this loss of richness in how we celebrate the Mass. At the same time, I am grateful for the opportunity to experience the Liturgy in its current state as an alternative to not celebrating the Liturgy at all.

So in the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons, music ministry at Incarnation is taking this

opportunity to focus on instrumental music. Stringed and percussion instruments are particularly worth encouraging at this point, as they do not rely on the human breath for production. I am reaching out to our instrumentalists that regularly assist at Mass already, but want to make sure those instrumental musicians not currently engaged in music ministry know – this is a call for you. We often put calls out for increased participation in the choir, and we rely on our cantors to lead our sung participation at all of our Liturgies, but now the focus is on you, instrumentalists of the parish. This is an opportunity for your gifts and talents to be seen and shared with the parish community to a greater extent than ever before. If you are a musician of high school age or older and are willing to help assist your parish community in worship at any of our Masses, please email or call the parish office. We’d love to hear from you, and we’d love to hear you.

YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST

“DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”1 CORINTHIANS 11:24

The Eucharist is ‘the source and summit of the Christian life.’ ‘The other sacraments and indeed

all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.’”

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, #1324.

In this Year of the Eucharist all of us are invited to become a Missionary of the Eucharist.A Missionary is someone who believes in the True Presence of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

A Missionary is encouraged to support the Year of the Eucharist in three ways:

PRAYER – be willing to commit to pray an additional 15 minutes per day. This can be done at home, in Adoration, by going to Mass or reading Scripture, etc.

PARTICIPATION – be open to attending events (Adoration, Holy Hours, etc.) in the Parish/Collaborative in support of the Year of the Eucharist. (This is dependent on being able to do so while we deal with COVID-19)

PROMOTION – be willing to spread the word about the Year of The Eucharist and any activities we might schedule, perhaps hang up a picture of the Year of The Eucharist logo or some other picture in your home.

Father Steve, Father Michael and I would like to personally invite you and encourage you to join us and

other parishioners as we journey through this special year. Each Missionary receives a pin and prayer card blessed by Cardinal Sean!! Please feel free to reach out to me to be a Missionary and or if you should have any questions. I can be reached by email at [email protected] or through the parish office.

Thank you and Be Safe.

THE 12TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

JUNE 21, 2020

God’s LoveJesus encourages us in Sunday’s Gospel.

Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without

your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid.

God loves each of us down to the tiniest detail! God’s is infinite, so he has an infinite amount of time and space for each person on earth, and above, and under the earth.

Here is a corollary to that reality. It concerns our ability to receive the love of God. Each human being is created to be a dwelling place for God and his love. We can never be truly human unless the greatest value in each of our lives is to receive the

love of God and give it to the people around us.

I realize that our culture would never buy such a proposition. On television we see people seeking ease, beauty, convenience, pleasure and so on. Quite often, on cable and broadcast channels, one could conclude that the human person is made for one purpose only: comfort, and especially sex.

Someone has said that commercials, without realizing it, are built to encourage the seven Capital Sins (pride, gluttony, avarice, lust, sloth, envy and anger).*

We human beings get attached to many things and mesmerized by them. But if each of us is created to be a place where God and his love can dwell, then any other fascination we have should be indulged only in proportion to this reality, and put aside if it begins to take over God’s place. If I am attached to wealth, or my stamp collection, or my good looks, or drugs, or even my mate—in a way that makes God’s love take second (or third or fiftieth) place—then my life is disordered and I am headed for a fall.

That is the corollary. How do you react to it?

6

Page 8: Parish of the Incarnation of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...So in the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons, music ministry at Incarnation is taking this opportunity to focus

Incarnation Parish Bulletin

You mean I am to love God only and not care about my friends, my family, music, sports, food, health, etc.? Not care about anything except God?

Not at all. Healthy love of all these things has its roots in love of God. All things get their own individual value from God’s indwelling. Each person, each blade of grass receives its full value of love because it proceeds from God’s gentle hand.

But I can hear the reader saying right now that this is much too difficult. So many things get in the way. Have a look through your life and see how often you forget God, who is your source. Peter, for his part, remembered that he had actually deserted Jesus at least three times and he said “Leave me, Lord, I am a sinful man.” How many times have you and I needed to say the same thing?

Are you saying that maybe this corollary really applies just to people who never sin?

Not at all. God has said throughout the ages, “If you sin, I will love you. I will not leave you.” The cross of Jesus is the ultimate statement of that truth. God’s love remains constant and precious in spite of the rampant sin in all of us and in each of us. His love will help us get closer to the goal.

Rejoice. No matter how many hairs you have on your head, God’s love does not go away.

Just receive it.

THE PERSPECTIVE OF JUSTICE

One in Christ

“God is the strength of his people,” the guide and protector of your people, the one who keeps us secure from this world’s uncertainty (Ps 28:8). We should not be afraid of anything because “the Lord is with me, like a mighty champion” (Jer 20:11).

The poor and lowly are special objects of protection.“See, you lowly ones, and be glad … for the Lord hears the poor, for he has rescued the life of the poor” (Responsorial Psalm). The special care of the poor is a sign to all of us that God is our strength, for it means that God is not influenced by the judgments of the world.

The world might abuse and ignore the poor and lowly, but God hears their cry and rescues their lives. The riches of this world might be for a select few, the rich and powerful, but the gracious gift of Jesus Christ abounds for all.

So do not let men intimidate you. Our God is God of the poor and lowly, and in him, we his children live in safety.

In the Old Testament God reveals himself to us as the liberator of the oppressed and the defender of the poor, demanding from man faith in him and justice towards man’s neighbor. It is only in the observance of the duties of justice that God is truly recognized as the liberator of the oppressed.

Synod of Bishops, Justice in the World, 1971:30.
