Parish Newsletter 27/28 May 2017 The Ascension of the Lord "And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." What consoling words Jesus had for his disciples, even as he was about to bring an end to his earthly ministry. He had spent some time with them after his resurrection, but now his mission was complete and he was about to return to be with his Father in heaven. Undoubtedly this must have been a difficult mo- ment for the disciples. But as if to reassure them, Jesus gives this remarkable promise: that he will ALWAYS be with them, even when he is no long- er physically present. We know, of course, that the presence he is referring to comes through the gift of the Holy Spirit. And what is most wonderful about this promise is that it also applies to us! Jesus is with US always. His presence dwells in our hearts through the sacrament of baptism in which we receive the real, indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. We are not alone! The sometimes difficult jour-ney of Christian life is not one we need to navigate solo. Christ himself as- cended into heaven so that he could make him- self present in a more universal and timeless way through his Spirit to all people who call upon him. Thus we rejoice on this feast of the Ascension. It's not so much about Jesus leaving. Rather, it's about him continuing his mission in a new way, a way that includes us very directly. So let us remember that Jesus is present with us, even when we cannot see him next to us or hear his voice loud and clear. Let us call upon his Holy Spirit when we need guidance, comfort, or direc- tion. And today, let us give thanks to God the Fa- ther for sending his Son to save us and for giving us his Spirit to accompany us on our own journey of life. MAY PROCESSION O Virgin most tender, Our homage we render, Thy love and protection, Sweet Mother, to win; In danger defend us, In sorrow befriend us, And shield our hearts From contagion and sin. All children who have recently made their First Holy Communion along with their families are invited to take part in the May Procession on Wednesday 31st May. We will assemble in Holy Rosary Church at 7:30pm

The Ascension of the Lord

"And behold, I am with you always, until the end

of the age." What consoling words Jesus had for

his disciples, even as he was about to bring an

end to his earthly ministry. He had spent some

time with them after his resurrection, but now his

mission was complete and he was about to return

to be with his Father in heaven.

Undoubtedly this must have been a difficult mo-

ment for the disciples. But as if to reassure them,

Jesus gives this remarkable promise: that he will

ALWAYS be with them, even when he is no long-

er physically present. We know, of course, that

the presence he is referring to comes through the

gift of the Holy Spirit. And what is most wonderful

about this promise is that it also applies to us!

Jesus is with US always. His presence dwells in

our hearts through the sacrament of baptism in

which we receive the real, indwelling gift of the

Holy Spirit in our hearts. We are not alone! The

sometimes difficult jour-ney of Christian life is not

one we need to navigate solo. Christ himself as-

cended into heaven so that he could make him-

self present in a more universal and timeless way

through his Spirit to all people who call upon him.

Thus we rejoice on this feast of the Ascension.

It's not so much about Jesus leaving. Rather, it's

about him continuing his mission in a new way, a

way that includes us very directly.

So let us remember that Jesus is present with us,

even when we cannot see him next to us or hear

his voice loud and clear. Let us call upon his Holy

Spirit when we need guidance, comfort, or direc-

tion. And today, let us give thanks to God the Fa-

ther for sending his Son to save us and for giving

us his Spirit to accompany us on our own journey

of life.

PRESIDENT WELCOMED BY POPE: Pope Francis received President Michael D. Higgins at the Vatican on Monday and a possible papal visit to Northern Ireland was discussed

briefly during the meeting. The 15-minute private audience was held in the Papal Library and, according to the Vatican’s press office, “several themes of mutual interest” were discussed. These included the protection of the rights of humanity at every stage and condition of life, migration and the welcoming of refugees, safeguarding the environment, and sustainable development The President’s meeting with the Pontiff comes just over a year ahead of Pope Francis’ expected visit to Ireland in August 2018 for the World Meeting of Families. After his Vatican meeting, President Higgins told the media, including RTÉ, that “There is agreement that circumstances have changed and that there is a better prospect and more scope” for a visit to Northern Ireland.
