our mission

As God’s people, we will share the love of God in a way that nurtures body, mind and spirit. Demonstrating God’s love for the world, we will serve a diverse population and accept one another without reservations. By including all people as one family in worship and service to God, we are all empowered and inspired by

the Spirit to continue the work of Jesus Christ.

2019 BUDGET FORUM RECAPAre you asking yourself why we need to raise an additional $100,000 in pledge income for 2019?Your vestry answers why.

2019 BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS$23,131 in additional expenses (a 3% increase from our 2018 budget)Here’s how that breaks down:$18,902 of the additional expenses (or 82% of this increase) is in just three areas:1. Assistant Sexton on Sunday $3,4582. Worship and Music $6,706Second of 3-year step increases in salary for our Ministers of Music and additional funding for organ and piano tuning/maintenance3. Contract Services $8,738primarily due to landscape maintenance being moved from capital project funding into our annual operating budget

The remaining $4,229 consists of overall increased costs of doing business, including a modest cost of living increase (2%) for staff.

SO WHY DO WE NEED AN ADDITIONAL $96,666 IN INCOME?The fact is that we have had a structural deficit in our budgets for the past several years. The Vestry has budgeted annually for a full time Rector and Associate Rector at appropriate salary and benefits levels. However, over the past three years, we have not had to actually pay full annual salaries and benefits to our clergy and, until recently, the Associate Rector’s salary was below diocesan standards for a church of our size. We have finished the past two years in theblack (barely) only because we have had substantial “savings” in clergy salaries and benefits. With the extension of Laurel’s contract as our Associate Rector and the arrival of Elizabeth as our full-time Rector with attendant benefits for both, we will need to bridge a $73,535 structural deficit in addition to the $23,131 in increased expenses for 2019.

PLEDGE ENVELOPES ARE HERE!If you signed up for pledge envelopes , you may pick them up at the Welcome Table or in the office during business hours. If you would like to have pledge envelopes and you are not on the list, please sign up at the Welcome Table or contact the office.

SIGN UP TO DONATE ALTAR FLOWERS IN 2019Give in remembrance, in celebration, in honor of, or just in gratitude. Altar flowers are a wonderful way to mark an occasion. Each Sunday sign up is $60. The chart is on the Labyrinth Plaza after the services. The flower donations cover the cost of the flowers and if we do not have a donor, we will use an artificial arrangement.

TRINITY GARDEN GUILD The Trinity Children’s Garden has come such a long way in the last few months! The Level 3 children just had the first harvest of sugar snap peas they planted! We are also growing carrots and radishes right now. Soon there will be brussels sprouts and cabbage! The children are enjoying their garden time and have been making amazing observations about the garden and its connection to our church community, as well as the bigger impact of growing food on the larger world. If you would like to get involved with our Garden Guild, contact Dorothy Poley, [email protected].

Baptism, a principal sacrament of the church, is a joyous public service of initiation. The gathered community takes vows to support the newly baptized, celebrates with and welcomes them. At Trinity we baptize people of any age within regular worship services. Our next baptism is:• Sunday, January 13The Baptism Prep Class will be on Saturday, December 15 from 9-11am. For information contact: Laurel Johnston, [email protected].

Update about Elizabeth HessPlease continue to keep Elizabeth and her family in your prayers as Elizabeth remains at Cottage Hospital in a medically induced coma following two serious brain surgeries. Elizabeth is being well cared for by the expert medical team at the hospital. As the church receives updates about changes in Elizabeth’s condition, we will share them with you. Kevin and Liam Hess, along with Elizabeth’s father, Paul Delaney, deeply appreciate your prayers and concern. TODAY IN THE CHURCH SCHOOL Children at Trinity meet most Sundays for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program (CGS). Since each Level of the program covers a range of ages, often several lessons are offered each Sunday, with most children taking part in only one. Today Level I will work with materials that tell the story of the Angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary about Jesus’ birth, and reflect on the prophet Isaiah’s words about a mother who will bear an amazing child. Level II will participate in the Alternative Christmas Market. Level III will complete their preparations and help host the Alternative Christmas Market.

THE GIVING TREE CONTINUES THROUGH SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16Christmas is the wonderful time of year when we can celebrate what God has so generously provided us, and share it with less fortunate members of our community. Every year Trinity parishioners provide colorfully wrapped Christmas gifts for residents of PATH Santa Barbara (People Assisting the Homeless), and we know your generosity will shine again. On November 25, the Trinity Giving Tree will be in the sanctuary. Simply pluck off a gift tag to choose the size, then purchase a unisex warm item (such as a sweatshirt). Then, return your wrapped gift with the size taped to the front and place it under the Giving Tree. On December 16, Trinity elves will pick them up at noon and magically transport them in time to celebrate the holy birth of our Savior. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
