Dear Friends of St. Louise, Here we are, the first weekend of Novem-ber and fresh from the celebration of All Saints and All Souls Days! These two feasts plus the readings of November help us to focus on the promised hope of new and everlasting life, even as we watch the nights grow darker, the days grow cooler and at times, stormier, and as nature’s cycle marches onward into her winter “sleep of death.” We live with the promise that the new life of Spring will come! As I mentioned in the bulletin a couple of weeks ago, the sacra-ment of Reconciliation knows no season. However, many people are more aware of the need to celebrate this great sacrament of par-don and peace during the seasons of Advent and Lent. In order to avoid conflicting with a very full Advent schedule in the parish and with other Reconciliation services at neighboring parishes, I have decided to try for communal Reconciliation services that will be in anticipation of Advent. I know that people’s calendars are especially busy in De-cember, so I hope that this will work better for many in the parish. Here are the dates:

Wednesday, November 13 at 7PM Thursday, November 14 at 10AM

At each service Fr. Carlos and I, together with several other priests, will be present for individual confessions following a brief Liturgy of the Word. Since a homily by a deacon or a priest is not required for celebrations outside of Mass, like these Reconciliation services, we will include a reflection by seminarian Brody Stewart after the readings. Why is confessing our sins to a priest important? While it is true that God forgives sins in many ways, there is only one way that God forgives sins sacramentally, and that is through the sacramental en-counter with Christ in Reconciliation. As with all sacraments, Reconcil-iation is a personal and physical encounter with Jesus under sacra-mental signs. With Baptism the sacramental sign is water; with Confir-mation it is the laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil, the sa-cred chrism; with Eucharist, the signs are the bread and wine. With Reconciliation, the sacramental sign is the penitent saying his or her sins aloud and the priest, who represents both the person of Jesus Christ and the Church, the mystical body of Christ, saying aloud the words of absolution. As you know, the Church has clarified in recent years that General Absolution (absolution conferred on a group, with-out individual confession) is allowed only in cases of emergency. You might say that the Church does not want us to be denied the personal, one-to-one encounter with Christ that this sacrament offers us. If it has been some time since you experienced this sacrament of God’s mercy, I strongly urge you to come. Sincerely in Christ,

Queridos Amigos de Santa Luisa: ¡Aquí estamos, el primer fin de semana de noviembre y acaban-do de celebrar los Días de Todos los Santos y los Fieles Difun-tos! Esas dos fiestas, junto con las lecturas de noviembre, nos ayu-dan a enfocarnos en la esperanza prometida de la vida nueva y eter-na, aun cuando vemos que las noches se hacen más oscuras, los días más fríos, a veces con tormentas, y el ciclo de la naturaleza avanza hacia el “sueño de la muerte” del invierno. ¡Nosotros vivimos con la promesa de que la nueva vida de la primavera llegará! Como mencioné en el boletín hace un par de semanas, el sacra-mento de la Reconciliación no conoce de épocas. Sin embargo, mucha gente está más consciente de celebrar este gran sacramento de perdón y paz durante las épocas de Adviento y Cuaresma. Para evitar conflictos con nuestro horario de Adviento muy lleno en la parroquia, y con otros servicios de Reconciliación en las parroquias vecinas, he decidido probar con servicios de Reconciliación comuni-tarios en anticipación al Adviento. En cada servicio, el Padre Carlos y yo, junto con varios sacerdo-tes, estaremos presentes para confesiones individuales des-pués de una breve Liturgia de la Palabra. Ya que la homilía de un diácono o un sacerdote no se requiere en celebraciones fuera de la Misa, como estos servicios de Reconciliación, tendremos una refle-xión que hará el seminarista Brody Steward después de las lecturas. ¿Por qué es importante confesar nuestros pecados a un sacer-dote? Aunque es verdad que Dios perdona los pecados de muchas maneras, solo hay forma una en la que perdona sacramentalmente, y es por medio del encuentro sacramental con Cristo en la Reconci-liación. Al igual que con todos los sacramentos, la Reconciliación es un encuentro personal y físico con Jesús bajo signos sacramentales. Con el Bautismo, el signo sacramental es el agua; con la Confirma-ción es la imposición de las manos y la unción con los santos óleos y el santo crisma; con la Eucaristía, los signos son el pan y el vino. In November We Remember Our Deceased

During the month of November, we re-member our deceased loved ones. Please enter the names of your de-ceased family members in “The Book of the Names of the Dead” in the main entrance of the church.

Beginning November 1, bring in a photo of your loved one(s) who have passed away. You are invited to bring a photo of a loved one and place it on the table by the votive candles (east

side of the church). Be sure to have your name and phone number on the back of the photo. Photos may remain in the church until the weekend of November 30.

St. Louise Men’s Fellowship Meeting

The next (monthly) Men’s Fellowship meeting will be Sunday, November. 3, 7:15 - 8:45PM in the St. Louise Room in the old school building. Refreshments and snacks will be provided for a social period at the beginning, followed by a spiritual program, and then prayers and intentions to close the meeting. Our pro-gram will be a "Day of the Dead" remembrance of our deceased relatives and friends. Bring a photo or other memento to share, of the deceased person(s) you would like to remember. Pre-Advent Reconciliation Services The approach of Advent is an appropriate time to seek peace within us and around us. The preaching of the prophets sum-mons us to a conversion that prepares the world and ourselves for Christ’s unex-

Local Arts & Crafts Vendors Welcome St. Louise Parish School is hosting our annual St. Nicholas Breakfast and Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 7. We're inviting local artists to showcase their arts and crafts. Examples of products sold in the past: Fine Art, Books, Hand-made Cards, Clothing, Pottery, Crafts, Jewelry, Fabric Art, Woodworking, Canvas Art, Food, Dolls, Illustrations, Hand-made Soap and Bath and Body Products, etc. Proceeds from the Breakfast and Bazaar benefit the St. Louise School Par-ents' Club and student enrichment programs.

This is an early announcement about the Thanksgiving Eve Interfaith Community Gath-ering (formerly called Thanksgiving Eve Com-

munity Worship Service) to call your attention to the new start time. This year we will celebrate the 33rd Annual Thanksgiving Eve Gathering at Temple B’nai Torah (15727 NE 4th St.) at a new, earlier time: 6:30PM. We’re doing this in response to suggestions that young families with young children who’ve wanted to attend might have a conflict with the children’s even-ing routines. Sick or Homebound or Going into the Hospital? If you are scheduled for surgery or know you will be going into the hospital and would like to be anointed beforehand, please contact David Gehrig, 425-214-5466, and he will help arrange for you to be anointed. Also call him if you are homebound and wish to receive Eucharist from a Minister to the Sick and Homebound or would like your name on the prayer list. If, in an emergency, you need to see a priest, please call the answering service for the Eastside Catholic Pastoral Ministry: 206-748-1500. They contact the pastoral minister on call, who will call you back, come to see you and, if you wish, put your name on the list of Catholic patients in the hospital. Current federal guidelines (HIPAA) are intended to protect the privacy of patients in the hospital. This means that the hospital will not give out any information about its patients. The only way we can know that someone is in the hospital and wants the visit of a Eucharistic Minister or chaplain is if YOU tell us.

The Adult Faith Formation Committee is pleased to announce that Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, M.Sp.S., will join us for an evangelization retreat, on Saturday, January 11, 2020, 12PM to 3:30PM. Born and raised in Mexico, he received a bachelor's degree in theology and a canon law degree from

the Gregorian University in Rome. In 1984, he was ordained a priest of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, a religious congrega-tion of men consecrated to God for the service of the Church, who provide spiritual direction for priests and consecrated reli-gious. He was assigned to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Bothell, Washington in the year 2000 to provide ministry to the growing Hispanic community in Western Washington upon the request of Archbishop Alex Brunett. He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Seattle by Pope Benedict XVI on May 12, 2005 and was or-dained by Archbishop Brunett on June 6, 2005. Auxiliary Bishop Elizondo is the first Hispanic Bishop in Seattle. He is appointed Vicar General, Vicar for Hispanic Ministries and Vicar for Vocations of the Archdiocese.

The Grief Support Group has a new format and time! We gather the 3rd Thursday of the month from1-2:30PM at the Parish Office. We gather to be present to each other in our pain and grief, accepting ourselves and each other as we are in the moment. We trust that our listening hearts offer healing and blessing to each other. By sharing our hurt we lighten our burden, support others and find hope and healing in our com-mon experience. Watch for coming information and dates.

St. Louise School News Let’s Honor our Veterans and Active Military On Monday, November 11, the entire school will be holding an outdoor ceremony at 8:30AM in recognition of Veterans' Day. We will be praying, singing, saluting the flag, and thanking any military veterans or active military who were able to join us that morning. If you or a family member (or neighbor) is a veteran or active military, it would be great to show up outside our flag pole in the front of the school building on Veterans' Day to join us and be recognized. Thank You, Supporters! Thanks to all our parish school supporters who donated items to our school Auction and/or generously bid on those items at this Saturday night’s Auction at the Bellevue Westin. Please Note: St. Louise CYO basketball registra-tion is for children in grades 4 – 8. However, your child does not need to attend St. Louise School to register. St. Louise CYO Basketball is also open and available to any child whose parent(s) or guardian(s) is a member of St. Louise Par-ish. Registration for CYO Basketball is open to children of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced, and every child on a St. Louise CYO Basketball team will get guaranteed playing time in all the games that the child attends. Late Registration is between October 26, 2019, to Friday November 8, 2019 at 11:59PM; the Late Registration fee is $110.00.

All regular season CYO basketball games are held on week-ends, either Saturday or Sunday. First games of the season start on the weekend of 11-16-2019, and the regular season ends on the weekend of 01-26-2020. (FYI: There are no games scheduled over Thanksgiving and Christmas week-ends.) 2020 Parish Stewardship of Treasure Commitment Renewal There will not be a formal Stewardship of Treasure pledge drive for our English-speaking parishioners this year because of the Archdioc-esan Called to Serve as Christ Campaign. As described in Fr. Gary’s letter to all parish

households (visit www.stlouise.org) those who made a pledge to the Stewardship of Treasure renewal in 2019 will simply have their pledge rolled over to 2020, unless we hear otherwise from you. CALLED to SERVE as CHRIST Campaign

How can I give to the Called to Serve as Christ campaign? Selecting the best gift plan depends on one's personal financial situation and goals. Gifts made by cash, check, credit card or Electronic Funds Transfer(EFT) are the most common and will allow the Archdiocese to address its immediate needs. Checks should be made payable to the Called to Serve as Christ cam-paign.

Gift intentions are made in good faith, but are not legally binding. Archbishop Etienne is encouraging all donors to consider stretch-ing your gift over a three-year period to maximize the total amount of your support. Your commitment can be fulfilled through month-ly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual installments.

If you wish, you can give to the campaign gifts of stock, real es-tate, life insurance and other planned gift opportunities. As tax laws are always changing and everyone’s situation is unique, donors are encouraged to consult with financial advisors to deter-mine which method of contributing is most beneficial to them. The archdiocesan Stewardship and Development Office can assist you with making the necessary arrangements for such gifts. Con-

As of October 18, the total amount of pledges that St. Louise Par-ish has received for the Called to Serve as Christ campaign is $560,294 or 24% of our $2.3M goal. So far 52 families have turned in their pledge information, that's 2.5% participation based on how many registered households we have. This is very en-couraging! Imagine what we can do with 30%, 50% or who knows even 100% participation – wow! That would be a game changer! St. Louise, we can do it! Amount paid to Date: $234,651; we have $56,739 to go to fulfil the total amount pledged

Adoración Bilingüe por las Vocaciones Únase a nosotros para la adoración bilingüe por las vocaciones. La adoración será dirigida por el P. Carlos Orozco y el Diácono Abel Magaña. Las próx-ima fecha de adoración es el 26 de noviembre de 2019.

Programa del Cáliz Vocacional El propósito del Programa del Cáliz es alentar a las familias para rezar y promover las vocaciones al Sacerdocio y a la vida religiosa. El Cáliz consagrado es un recuerdo concreto de esta intención especial para la Iglesia. El Concilio Vaticano II resalta la responsabilidad de los laicos para orar y apoyar las vocacio-nes. Esta llamada urgente ha sido reafirmada categóricamente en los escritos y las homilías de ambos el Papa Juan Pablo II y el Papa Benedicto XVI. Orar por las vocaciones es la forma más poderosa para apoyar las vocaciones. Una vocación es un llamado del Espíritu Santo, un don de Dios que se nutre en la oración. Cuando rezamos por las vocaciones, elevamos al Pa-dre a los hombres y mujeres a quienes Él llama a seguirlo en una forma muy especial. Esperamos que aquellos que traigan al hogar el cáliz continúen orando diariamente por las vocacio-nes. Cómo funciona el programa Cada semana en la Misa, al final de la Misa, el sacerdote llama a una familia asignada para recibir una bendición y el cáliz con un libro de oraciones. La familia lleva el cáliz a su casa y lo coloca en un lugar de honor. Cada día por una semana, duran-te el tiempo de la oración (por la mañana, a la hora de acostar-se y a la hora de las comidas), la familia reza por un aumento y por la perseverancia de las vocaciones. El siguiente domingo la familia devuelve el cáliz para que otra familia lo lleve a su casa. Si su familia está interesada en inscribirse por una semana, llame a Noemi Bañuelos (425) 919-2812

Durante el mes de noviembre, recordamos a nuestros seres queridos fallecidos. Están to-dos invitados a escribir los nombres de los miembros de su familia fallecidos en "El libro de los nombres de los muertos" en la entrada principal de la iglesia.

a traer una foto de un ser querido y colocarla sobre la mesa

junto a las velas del (lado este de la iglesia). Asegúrese de te-

ner su nombre y número de teléfono en la parte posterior de la

foto. Las fotos pueden permanecer en la iglesia hasta el fin de

semana del 30 de noviembre.

Servicios de Reconciliación de Adviento

Adviento es un momento apropiado para buscar la paz dentro de nosotros y a nuestro alrededor. La predicación de los pro-fetas nos convoca a una conversión que prepara al mundo y a nosotros mismos para la inesperada, pero segura, venida de Cristo. Brindamos varias oportunidades para celebrar el sacra-mento de la Reconciliación para prepararnos para la Navidad.
