PLEASE JOIN THE ROSARY MAKERS AND THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS as we pray the Rosary before each Mass during October, the month of the Holy Rosary. Our prayer intentions during October will be offered for increased respect for the dignity of every human life from the moment of conception to natural death, for peace and healing in our land, and for the special intentions of our parishioners. We will begin the Rosary in the sanctuary 30 minutes before Mass begins. Note: on October 11 and 25, we will meet in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. IS GOD TRYING TO GET YOUR ATTENTION? Do you find yourself attending Mass and feel drawn to the Catholic Church? Do you feel a hunger for something more in your life, but you’re not sure what? Or a persistent, nagging sense that you should do something spiritual? God may be quietly but constantly calling you through other people or situations to inquire about the Catholic faith. For more information, call Tommy Denton at 343-0027 or Diane at 387-0491. JOIN THE CREW! Buildings and Grounds needs: 1. A person, couple, family or group to maintain one of the mulch/flower beds. Set your own

time/hours. Tasks include mulching in the spring, weeding, trimming shrubs, planting, etc. 2. One or two people to do weed spraying around the church. It takes only 1-2 hours every

one to two weeks, primarily using a 2-gallon sprayer around the sidewalks and parking lot. 3. A person, couple, family or group to maintain the playground. This would include weeding,

removing trash and leaves, etc. Could be done once a week or once every two weeks, depending on the time of year.

Contact Jack Kirby at 375-2795 to volunteer or for more information.

THE GREAT ADVENTURE CONTINUES We wrap up Lesson #18 by watching the DVD on the Messianic Fulfillment, Part 1, which we read about in Luke 1:1–9:50. Following this DVD, we begin reading about the Messianic Fulfillment, Part 2, in Luke 9:51–19:27. Additional readings include: Galatians 3:26–4:7 and the Catechism # 2762-2766, 2803-2806, 553. See your binder for additional notations to read. The Great Adventure DVD is shown both before and after the 10:30 am Mass on Sunday, as well as after the Saturday evening Mass. Remember, if you miss a weekend viewing, the DVD is also shown when groups meet at OLPH on Sunday night (~7:15 pm), Monday through Wednesday nights (~8:00 pm) and Wednesday mornings (~11:00 am). Please arrive a few minutes early if you join one of the groups to view the DVD in case discussions wrap up and they start the DVD earlier than noted. See the bulletin calendar for locations.

Scripture never says that: • Mary rode a donkey to Bethlehem, • an innkeeper refused them room, • Jesus was born in a stable surrounded by animals, • singing angels told the shepherds follow the star, or • the wise men were three kings riding camels.

(J.V. McTavish: A Biblical Miscellany)

Fact:

MINISTERS OF THE ALTAR Altar servers assist the community's prayer by helping to make the ritual of the Mass proceed with style and grace. Servers are boys and girls who have already made their First Holy Communion. They remind us at every weekend Mass that in the task of worship there is a place for everyone. Their ministry includes being an example to the rest of the community through their faithful attention and participation during the liturgy.

IT WAS ANOTHER SUCCESS!

It keeps getting better and better! Our annual church picnic, last Sunday October 4, was one of the best ever. It was a little later than usual, the weather was just a bit cooler (but just about perfect) and the people came. New events included a mechanical bull and live pony rides. Word has it that we have a picture of Father Kevin in mid-air, falling off the bull! (We needed a little more activity at the horseshoe pit though!) The ice cream truck had an unbelievable line waiting for that free cone or cup. The balloon twister never made it to ‘her location’. The kids got in line right at her car! Music by Billy C. Wirtz was some of the best around. Thanks to anyone and everyone who volunteered….including those who just came up and asked ‘where can I help?’ (and some that we pulled in at the last minute!) Special thanks to Knight of Columbus who provided and cooked the hot dogs, brats and hamburgers that we all enjoyed. Many, Many Thanks!

Blessing of the Animals St, Francis would have been proud as our parishioners brought out their pets for the Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, October 3. Father Kevin expressed relief that everyone was well-behaved (that includes pets and owners!) Treats (pets only) were available at the end of the service.
