THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY - August 15, 2015

The Solemnity of the Assump on of Mary is NOT a holy day of obliga on this year. For this reason, we will not provide the usual schedule for a solemnity. You may ask yourself, why is it that from me to me, a Solemnity or Feast day is “dispensed?” There are several reasons for this, but the simple and most common answer as to why it is “dispensed” is because most o en it falls on a Saturday, Sunday or even a Monday. Sunday is the LORD’S DAY. We always celebrate the Paschal Mystery on this day, and thus it is always centered on him. For this reason any me a solemnity, be it Marian or say, All Saints, falls on these days, the solemnity is normally “dispensed” - meaning that the “obliga on” is removed (canon 1246.2 of the Code of Canon Law - www.usccb.org). In other instances you will find that a local bishop will dispense the obliga on for his diocese but another will choose to uphold it (CCI 87.1). In our Diocese of San Diego, the obliga on was “dispensed,” so besides the daily Mass there will be NO vigil or special celebra on centered on this solemnity. Here is a link that may help you if you would like to research the topic more thoroughly: h ps://www.catholic.com/encyclopedia/dispensa on.

A QUOTE FROM POPE FRANCIS

“Idolatry, then, is always polytheism, an aimless passing from one lord to anoth-er. Idolatry does not offer a journey but rather a plethora of paths leading nowhere and forming a vast labyrinth.” - from Lumen Fidei: Enciclica sulla Fede

Contribu ons can be made through your monthly envelopes, online at www.sanluisreyparish.org or by contac ng our bookkeeper, Elizabeth Rose, to set up an EFT dona on.

¡Gracias!
