PARIS STUDY ABROAD SUMMER 2009 In one month study abroad program to Paris, a project of a high-rise foyer was to be redesigned. Through the study of the Seine River, the research of combining the cycle of water and knowledge was embraced throughout the entire trip. The conceptual intent was the parallel connection between the circulation of water and the dissemination of knowledge through light. The knowledge and cycle of water diagram shows the division and location of programs according to their role in each cycle. The diagram also shows the upward vertical circulation through the different levels of each program. Materiality and lighting are also reflecting and complimenting each stage by its densed and textured lighting.

PARIS STUDY ABROADSUMMER 2009

In one month study abroad program to Paris, a project of a high-rise foyer was to be redesigned.

CIRCULATION

THE PARALLEL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CIRCULATION OF WATER AND THE DISSEMINATION OF KNOWLEDGE THROUGH LIGHT.

SHAFT

The shaft in the design process is the key element to circulation. Both the elevators and multiple stairs penetrates from one transition to the next, and it also allows natural light to filter between the layers of glass. Natural skylight allows light to transfer through each floor, yet it darkens while it reaches towards the end where the underground level is located.

Because the shaft is the primary circulation, it represents the transfer of water from liquid to gas to solid. It translates the ultimate cycle of water.

Glass is used in every part of the shaft to accentuate the translucency of water and the openess of light.
