mplants is a high-level conference for contract manufacturers and orthopaedic companies that will focus on changes in manufacturing techniques and purchasing strategies. The focal point will be on how

orthopaedic contract manufacturers can position themselves in the face of a rapidly changing marketplace due to new technologies, materials, regulations and the emergence of BRIC countries.

More than 200 top level decision makers attended the June 2015 conference in Paris for a full day of learning and business networking.

The 2016 conference will be held in Paris on June 7th and will feature the following topics:

How OEM and CM collaborations can drive innovation

Additive Manufacturing: From highly complex and customized manufacturing today to the mass market tomorrow?

Implants of the Future: Smart Implants, Robotic and assisted surgery, Biologics, bioresorbable raw materials, Anti-infection

MEET THE MAIN PLAYERS IN THE ORTHOPAEDIC MARKETPURCHASING MANAGERS FROM ORTHOPAEDIC COMPANIES AND CONTRACT MANUFACTURERS WILL ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

What are the general trends and changes in orthopaedics contract manufacturing? Are the major OEMs relying more on contract manufacturing?

What are the key growth factors and barriers to development for orthopaedics contract manufacturing?

What roles will BRIC (especially China, India and Brazil) and Central European countries play in the future of contract manufacturing?

Which products are the priorities? What are the risks for contract manufacturers in developed countries?

What is the impact of regulations and certifi cations? Will this mean more inspections and audits, and stricter controls for contract manufacturers?

What are the needs of orthopaedic OEMs? One-stop shopping, shared responsibilities, co-invention and co-development agreements, etc.

What is the signifi cance of provision of raw materials and associated services?

What are the long-term trends affecting casting, forging, machining, coating and fi nishing processes?

How will the availability of generic instrumentation affect spine and trauma surgery in low-cost countries?

How has contract manufacturing of the coating process changed?

How do the major OEMs work with product markings, packaging and sterilization?

SPECIAL FOCUS ON ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING: STRATEGIES USED BY ORTHOPAEDIC COMPANIES

Will additive manufacturing be a key technology for the orthopaedics industry in the years to come?

What strategies are the major orthopaedic companies adopting relative to additive manufacturing?

Buy or Build? Will the OEMs develop the capabilities internally to maintain a strategic advantage or do they prefer buying or subcontracting this technology?

Technologies: Electron Beam Melting, Selective Laser Melting, Trabecular Titanium, Trabecular Tantalum, Trabecular Metal, Powder Technology, 3D printing.

Applications: acetabular cups, knee replacement components, intervertebral cages, disc replacement, shoulder glenoid component, CMF implants, dental implants.

SESSION 3 IMPLANTS OF THE FUTURESMART IMPLANTS, ROBOTIC AND ASSISTED SURGERY, BIOLOGICS, BIORESORBABLE RAW MATERIALS, ANTI-INFECTIONRobin Stamp, Associate Manager - Advanced Technology, Stryker OrthopaedicsTechnologies transforming the design of Orthopedic implants

The impact of additive manufacturing, robotics and medical imaging on Orthopaedics Future directions in implant design and surgical procedures The regulatory strategy for new technologies

Claude Rieker, Director European Scientifi c Affairs, ZimmerBiometThe Prosthetic Joint Infections (PJI), one of the last challenge for the orthopaedic community

The Prosthetic Joint Infections (PJI) are a major issue and can be defi ned as one of the most challenging complications of total joint arthroplasties and their incidence are steadily increasing.

PJI is the cause of about 15% of THA revisions and the most common cause of TKA revisions (about 25%).

The estimated costs of PJI is a large burden for all health care systems. Currently, the orthopaedic industry is working on different approaches (surface modifi cations, coatings, …) to potentially lower the risks of PJI.

The early detection of PJI is also quite important to optimize the possible treatments. Different new detection methods are currently under evaluation.
