ESSAY

TOPIC:- How I wish to celebrate Children’s Day

A sacred enjoyable day for the Godly children of India. 14th November a day

dedicated to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru also lovably called as ‘Chacha Nehru’

by children. He used to like children a lot. So people decided to consider his

birthday as Children’s Day.

I would like to celebrate children’s day by helping poor children to get their

basic education, by giving some books. Of course, it won’t be my money but

instead of getting more extravagant toys from my father.Spending money on

books will be good. I would like to donate it to the poor. The actual meaning

of Children’s day is to bring awareness among the children about exploitation

of children by various illegal activities like child labour, keeping girl children

away from school and many more. So, to penetrate through this problem

there is only one weapon, that is educating & helping children to go to

school, who can’t afford it and by taking part in funding programme by

different organization. Through this, the thought and dream of my children

day celebration can be achieved.

So, let’s join our hands to bring awareness among people about the

exploitation of the beautiful child life of children and get them educated and

also make them aware of its benefits. This is my way and idea of celebrating

children’s day and Chacha Nehru’s Happy Birthday .

MY STATE – KARNATAKA

Karnataka is a southern state, which has major population who speak in kannada

and it also has other language people . It is like a mini India as we have people

from different states, customs, traditions, religion etc,.

Karnataka was earlier called as Mysore State which was formed on Novemeber -1 ,

1956 and since then November 1 is celebrated as ‘ Kannada Rajotsava’. However

Mysore was later renamed as Karnataka in 1973. Karnataka is the birth place of

many poets who have won Jynapeeta Awards.

There are two hotspots of biodiversity in India, out of which one is located in

Eastern Himalayas and the other hotspot is existing in Sahyadri that is Western

Ghats in Karnataka.

We the people of Karnataka are whole hearted and we invite, welcome, treat and

facilitate anybody and everybody from India and across the world. Bengaluru -

Capital city of Karnataka is the Silicon city which has collaborated with foreign

companies and has setup various MNC’s.

We are proud to say that , Dharwad District of Karnataka is the only place which

manufactures and supplies Indian flag to the entire country. Mysore district in

Karnataka is the only place which is famous for silk & sandalwood.

Karnataka has various kinds of food which is loved by all such as Raagi ball, Mysore

Pak, Dharwad Peda, Idli, Vada, Dosa etc,.

Thus my state,Karnataka is a land of worship love, kindness, specialties,

uniqueness, integrity and solemnly respected place in India and across the world.

ART & CRAFT / PAINTING BY THE CHILDREN OF ASHANKURA

ARTICLEs

Mrs. Vani Simha, a volunteer at Ashankura, has been teaching Number skills

for the children since 2000. Our gratitude to her for her selfless and yeomen

service. She has shared her experience and thoughts through the following

article.

specially yours ……

Serene atmosphere, cool breeze, enchanting bright flowers, colourful

posters….a bundle of mixed feelings.. .. as I entered this institution way back in

2000; on a fine day. The, then, Headmistress Madam Pramila Vaghese humbly

sanctioned my request to be among kids as a volunteer to teach number skills.

My sincere thanks to Madam Dechamma and Madam Sathy for their extensive

support to help me carry on my duties efficiently.

I was taking tuitions (in Commerce) for PUC and undergraduate courses at

home. A wide disparity in the two sets of students --- college goers and angels

of Ashankura. Most of the kids at Ashankura accepted me before long; but a

few took more time to adjust. Let me share a few experiences on this occasion.

A student used to be so observant about my outlook…he used to comment on

my bindis, saris etc… and his humorous comments made me laugh… to the

extent of telling which color suited me and which colour was harsh on me…

indeed they are innocent and their frankness moved me.

Another 6 year old boy would always scratch his legs and hands when I entered

the class. I guessed it was an insect bite, but repeated, whenever I entered the

class. Soon I realized that he was allergic to numbers and math especially …. I

waited patiently and taught him. Gradually, the kid developed lot of interest in

numbers. Over a span of few years he was thorough with all operations of

addition, multiplication subtraction and division…. When he left school he was

able to solve simple algebraic equations…He completed 10th grade through

NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling). Today, he works as a lab instructor

in a college and never fails to wish me on September 5th and I never fail to rag

him about Math allergy….

Another incident made me emotional and I concluded that these children are

an abode of empathy. My father had to undergo a surgery. I informed my

tuition students (PUC & Degree) that I am giving them holidays for the next 10

days. The reaction was “wow… no tuitions for the next 10 days”. But when I

informed the same to my students at Ashankura, there was an array of

questions… why am I taking an off for few days, whose surgery, where, date

and time of surgery. I replied to all their questions. Exactly one hour after the

surgery I received phone calls from all the students of my class in Ashankura

enquiring about my dad’s health…” How is thatha? Did he eat……” It touched

my heart…

Yes, they are definitely special…… Their concern doesn’t stop. Each day they

asked if I had my breakfast, did I wait for the bus…and many more…heights of

true unconditional love.

The new entrants at Ashankura adapt quickly to school life and wholeheartedly

miss school during holidays. The dedication and love shown by the entire team

of Ashankura makes each child feel at home. The whole team treats me as one

among them though I am not a regular staff there. I would like to voice my

personal opinion. Teaching is a noble profession and only people who are

passionate should opt. It needs a different mindset .If anyone comes to this

profession without a passion, it builds an unhealthy foundation for the next

gen…Slow learners in other schools should be identified early and put on the

right track instead of harassing them in schools.

Naa Ham Kartha Hari Hi Kartha… My endless gratitiude to God for this

opportunity in Ashankura…. My journey of learning continues…….Thank you.

EFFECTIVE WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR LEARNABILITY

LEARNABILITY

Learnability is the desire and the capability to learn new skills quickly and adapt to different ways of doing things. It can also be defined as the ability to develop new in-demand skills quickly in order to meet the demands of a changing employability landscape and marketplace.

Importance of learnability As the technology keeps changing the world, what will soon define our

success in our careers are not the things we know, but our ability to learn the new. As technology changes, so does the way we work, and high learnability is a key characteristic in any employee. Effective Ways to Improve your Learnability Here are some effective ways to increase learnability and thus also your employability. These tips you can keep in mind while working on your learning skills. 1. Always Be prepared

When you are going to attend the class, try and do some study before so that you have a fair idea of what to expect from the class and what will be taught in the class. Also if already have an idea about the curriculum of the lecture then it would help you understand the lecture better and also you will be able to ask various queries about the topic at the same time and resolve them immediately. This way you can avoid feeling confused and at loss when reviewing the topic that you just learnt. Try and get the books you might need for the class or download the software that you might need so that you can easily and better understand the proceedings of the class.

By, Mrs.Uma Chaudhary Lecturer, Commerce and Management Department

2. Get and Stay Organized

Keep your notes organized and well divided. If you take notes by hand, keep them in a labelled binder so you can review them later. This little technique will not only keep you organized but will also save you a lot of trouble and make your task easier when you are in a hurry and want to find something out of your notes. Also not just get organized but keep up the habit of staying organized. This will help you remember where you kept your stuff and will help you at the time of hurry. Keeping your desk organized or keeping your notes organized can make your life much easier.

3. Be On Time Being punctual never cost anybody anything. It only helps you be ready for the class that you are about to take. Reach for the class five minutes early and try and keep everything that you need for the class ready. So that you won’t be disturbed having to sort things out during the class. Being punctual helps you take you mind off other things. And being punctual for the class has an added advantage that you will complete your other tasks on time and won’t have to rush through things.

4. Take Good Notes Take notes of the things being taught in the class. Taking notes can be quite helpful. Try and be multitasking but if you can’t then listen carefully during the class and take the notes later on. If the class is recorded then you can re-view the class and make notes at that time. Taking notes keeps you from the hassle of reading the whole thing and you can review the topic better and also helps you better remember the things being taught in the class. And make sure that you review your previous notes before the next class.

5. Establish Your Learning Style Which is your best and preferred learning style: visual [reading], auditory [listening] or kinaesthetic [doing]? When you know your learning style, take classes that incorporate that style. For example, audio learners keep CDs in their car to turn traffic jams into productive time. Book learners may keep a note-book handy to take notes and read as they exercise on the stepper machine or treadmill. When you study, do you need silence or do you enjoy having music playing in the background? Knowing how you learn best improves your effectiveness.

BEL First Grade College

6. Ask Questions. If you have some questions in your mind regarding any of the topics being taught then write down the questions and make sure that you clarify all your doubts. A doubtful mind cannot grasp all the knowledge that is being given to him and he will in turn get confused, so in order to be able to understand and learn properly, make sure that all your queries are answered properly. It is also believed by the instructors that having a query in your mind is a sign of attentiveness because if you are not listening to what the teacher has to say then you will never be able to come up with a query. After all an attentive mind is what you need the most in order to make the learning process most effective.

7. Complete All Assignments Make sure you always complete your assignments. They can provide you with the extra help that you might need. If you are preparing from a self-help book, then make sure that you complete all the assignment given in that book. This will help you test your knowledge and will help you determine your success and how well you have learnt. You can also take some mock tests if you want. And after that, make sure to solve some of the assignments given. This ensures that whatever knowledge you have just gained, retains in your mind and also tells you the key areas that you should work on in order to understand the lecture better. It is quite normal to feel lost when you seem to be getting too much information from various sources. But it calls for prioritization of the information received by you. Also having good reading and learning habits can take you a long way in the knowledge retention.

8. Create a perfect study place Create a workplace for yourself where you can dump all your study material and just get started with the learning process. Keep all the books and the things that you might need, handy. Choose a really interesting or activity filled place because then you attention will be diverted with the other things of the room and you won’t be able to concentrate on your studies. Also you don’t want your study place to have too much noise or any other such distraction as it will make it harder for you to concentrate on studying.

BEL First Grade College

9. Start with the harder things When you are caught up in a dilemma of choosing between the easier task and the harder task, always go for the harder one because putting off the harder task for the last minute will reduce your efficiency to half and you will not be able to produce the best results. This will help you put in a much more concentrated effort and help you complete the task with much more efficiency. But make sure that you don’t waste too much time trying to complete the harder task that you forget about the other task and hence end up giving a below average result or thinking about the various things that you could have done better.

10. Develop a schedule Develop a schedule for yourself and decide how you want to study, when you want to study and where you want to study. Preparing a schedule for oneself is often not given due importance in the larger scheme of things. In order to be able to develop a schedule, create a time limit for yourself as to by which you have to complete the given assignment. If you are on a clock to complete a task, then you tend to put in much more concentrated effort in order to complete the tasks. Also setting a time limit tends to solve the problem of procrastinating and helps you avoiding the completion of the task at the last minute and not be able to give you best. These above mentioned ways can take you a long way and make sure that the knowledge that you gain today is not lost tomorrow and stays with you as long as you want. So make sure that you keep these little points in mind the next time you are learning something.

Although we crib about the school restrictions, discipline during our school days

but when all this comes to an end and we move towards our further life, what is

left is nothing but memories and the foundations that we have acquired over a

period of time.

After reading the paragraphs that are written above, a question arises in many of

us saying,

“Are school days really golden days?”

Now, the answer is,

We always wanted freedom; we used to think it exists.

*Does it? Yes, it does. It exists in the frank discussion with your teacher in school.

*It exists in the fight over stupid matters with friends in school.

*It exists in playing pranks with friends and teachers in school.

*It exists in passing a lovely smile to teacher for even the gravest mistakes in

school.

*It exists in not completing assignments on time and still asking for marks in school.

Yes, school days are golden days!!! Just enjoy it. Never waste your time doing

unnecessary things in school. Instead, try using it in studies that you might get a

bright future. If you don`t, then there is no use of regretting it in the future. Your

school life is in your hands. You`ve got the freedom to choose anything. Just choose

the best!

India produces enough food to feed the entire country every day, but not everyone

can afford food like we do. According to government survey we almost waste about

67 million tonnes of total production every year. Where it can be fed for millions of

people who are dying from hunger (about 3000 children in India die every day from

poor diet related illness). This is a serious issue but most of them are not aware

about these. Here is some ways where we can reduce food wastage:

Don`t over serve your food.

Shop smart i.e., realistically.

Try to eat left over`s and avoid preparing more quantity than required.

Store food at the right place.

Keep track of what you throw away.

Buy only what you need.

Educate other people about how to reduce food wastages?

By following these simple ways, you will be indirectly responsible for saving the

lives of people who are dying from hunger. As responsible citizens of India, we have

to help the poor people by providing some basic nutritious food to them. If every

citizen thinks in this way, then automatically the hunger death rates will reduce.

So “Think before you waste your food”.
