►►SPEAKERS FOR IMPACT OF CRIME ON VICTIMS CLASSES AT FLORENCE PRISON◄◄
Our chapter in past years has provided victims to speak in Arizona prisons as part of Restorative Justice and in
the ICVC (Impact of Crime upon Victims) classes. The inmates go through training to learn the effects of their
crime upon society and their own families, as well as the victims. At the end of the classes, a victim comes in
and speaks about how the crime impacted their own family, bringing pictures or videos, etc. The classes are
being revamped at Florence Prison and we have the opportunity to make a difference through impacting those
inmates who will be getting out of prison one day, to hopefully not commit crimes again. There are different
classes including: Homicide, Domestic Violence, Assault, Sexual Assault, Substance Abuse, Robbery and
Property Crimes, Drunk Driving, Child Abuse and Crimes Against the Elderly.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Beckie by email [email protected] or phone 602-254-
8818 and indicate which class (classes) you would be willing to speak at. We currently have some of the
classes filled but if the one you choose is full, we will put you down for the next session of classes that would
begin after November, likely into the coming new year. If you decide to speak, you will have to be cleared to go
into the prison by providing the coordinator with your birthdate and social security number.

SPEAKER INFORMATION MEETING – DOCUMENTARY MOTHERLAND
Our speaker meeting in November featured a documentary entitled “Motherland”, which featured 6 women, all
grieving the loss of a child, on a journey of hope and healing. They traveled to the poorest part of South Africa
for an intensive pilgrimage working with children in the rural area of Africa. With grief in their hearts and a
5
willingness to make a difference, this intrepid group of women traveled halfway around the world to work as
volunteers in order to test the theory that “Giving can be Healing.” The film “Motherland”, tells the story of
this inspirational journey and how, for 12 special days, the lives of these women were changed. We were
reminded during the video there is no instruction manual or “right way” to grieve. The film explored the
healing power of service, explored the differences between the American women’s experience of suffering and
that of the African women they meet along their journey and it raises questions about Western Culture’s
approach in dealing with life and loss. The film ultimately celebrated the women’s ability to survive, to heal,
and to live again. It was also notable how the African women and children still find such joy in life when they
have so little and have lost so much of their own family and friends to poverty and AIDS.

Merry Christmas from Heaven (by: John William Mooney, Jr.)
I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven’s stars, reflecting on the snow. The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away the tear
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear But the sounds of music can’t compare with the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring, For it is beyond description, to hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart But I am not so far away, We really aren’t apart.
So be happy for me, dear ones, You know I hold you dear. And be glad I’m spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I sent you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above.
I sent you each a memory of my undying love. After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold.
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do. For I can’t count the blessing or love he has for each of you.
So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear Remember, I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

Briana Naylor
Briana, I remember in ’98, I had this breathtaking baby girl enter into my life. And the proof is in the pudding, looking at the memories framed at perfect timing, hanging in frames that should be made of the most beautiful of things that would attract every person’s eyes to see the worth of pure eternal love you had in and still do have from everyone that knows you, as their child, sibling, grandchild, great grandchild, niece, cousin, friend, student, shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, church family homie, and last, but not least, Best friend. We all have you as different roles in our lives and we all know and love you for whichever one they're identifying you to them as they read this. It’s taken me a long time to try and write the perfect words for you. We're all still grieving, have a picture they look at and love you and some have thought, voice recordings, video, and pictures of memories of good times you allowed us to bask in your glory (inside joke) but this isn’t what we want; we all want you here doing each title they identify themselves with because of the unfortunate situation we have memories. We also have new family members. The people whom we've met after your life was taken away. The families before us that feel our pain. The ones that cry with us because they didn't get to meet you. They only know of you by what memories we share of you. Like they do with us of their loved one who was ripped out of their lives without answers. Grieving like us, wanting the same thing we do. To have you back. I still have a very unstable mind. Four years ago, your life, Briana Amelia Naylor, was taken away from not just us, but the entire world. We will never know what it would of been like to watch you walk across the stage to receive your junior high diploma, what did we get?! We got a moment of silence after they said your name. I know you didn't want us to celebrate that way. But we will forever be curious when you come across our mind; what would you be doing at this exact moment? Would you be graduating which school cause this 11/11/16 would be your senior year at the school you had in mind North High school? It’s Friday evening so I would picture you sitting with me at this exact moment watching the sunset. And me in another 4 years? Would you be graduating Grand Canyon University? The future goals you planned while you were here on Earth? I have so many unanswered dreams you shared and the curiosity as here; what would you look like today? Who would you marry? Would I ever had been a grandma? Just so many unanswered dreams I will never know about I now call nightmares. Because I'll never get the those answered, just imagining. That’s all I get now, that’s all the world gets now. Our memories, love, grief, curiosity and pain of something that I personally wish death on every day. Would you become a doctor like you wanted? Save lives and be loved for helping others? No one that knows you, or heard our memories of you or even someone reading we will wonder. That's all we have. I loved you and will love you forever and a day. Just like every child’s name in these newsletters. It killed me to write all this four years ago and still does. I’ve got to end this letter now. You know why. Happy 18th birthday, it was very hard to lay you to rest the day after your 14th birthday. I'll write your name across the sky and take away the stars because you light up my life. I'm as high as the moon when you’re here with me; that's why I wanna write your name for the world to see. Love you forever my lil mommas. Mommy. :'(
IN LOVING MEMORY

Brendon Eric Chavez 12/10/1977-10/05/2001
We will always love you son. Mom and Dad
Brendon; I want to wish you a heavenly Birthday. I Love and miss you; only you will know! You were taken from us at age 24; two months later you had a birthday. You would be 39 years old. Wow, I think what would you look like? Grey and thinning hair and wrinkles? Just kidding! Maybe not that bad. Hahahah! In my mind, I see you, I talk to you, and in my head, you answer me back. I miss you, brother. Fifteen years have come and gone. My memories of you still fresh, as your voice, the smell of your cologne, your smile, I hold dear to soul. You will always be with me, brother. Until I see you again, fly high with the angels and save a place for me. Love you, miss you, always brother! Sonia... xoxo!

SAFELY HOME
I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! But Jesus’ love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread:
And with Jesus’ arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth’s shadows,
Pray to trust our Father’s Will.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth –
You shall rest in Jesus’ land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of the meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
