an Interview With Miss O’Leary, The

Latest addition to the Music Department

Last week we had a group of people from Mumbai visit our school. The Headteacher and a couple of the gov-erning body from NL Dalmia High School, a private school, came to see how British education differed from that in India. Our school had been put forward for this school spinster con-tract through the British Council be-cause of our recent award for the use of ICT within lessons.

The visit consisted of a school tour, talking to students and observing les-sons. They were shocked at how flex-ible our curriculum can be compared to theirs where they have a strict set of rules to follow.

As they were staying for a week here in London, they visited 3 other schools; of which they voted ours best! Ms Saini (Head) is very keen to introduce an ex-change for students in the future which would be an incredible opportunity for anyone lucky enough to go!

Mr Ryan said 'the trip was a great ex-perience for both schools, and hope-fully we will continue to build a strong relationship for the future.'By NiNa Pryce

Festival continued...

Tuesday 26th February was Chiswick School’s annual battle of the bands! This year showcased a large range of music, to an even larger audience, who had all come to see and hear student musicians, from Years 8-12, battle it out for prizes. Mr Warren played host, and created an enjoyable atmosphere, full of laughter, with many people com-menting that ‘he’s definitely been the best host yet’.

Bands as young as Year 8 took the stage, wowing the audiences with their impressive vocal ranges and musical abilities. Songs such as ‘Valerie’ ‘I knew you were trouble’ ‘When the sun goes down’ ‘Where is my mind’ and ‘Runa-way Love’ were performed, with every

performance getting the audience on their feet.

However no one could have been pre-pared for the phenomenal support that Mr Warren received when he took the stage with Jonathan Ajayi and Violet Vincent, to perform Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’. The hall was full of audi-ence members screaming ‘WARREN’ at the top of their lungs, leaving them with sore throats, as Mr Warren performed an intense and skilful drum solo to-wards the end. ‘It was brilliant; I’m surprised he isn’t famous yet! Swear he’s on YouTube’ said Jordan Jemirifo.

As Miss O’Leary, Mr Hunter and Mr Sadler took to the stage to announce the results, the tension in the room was surreal, the anticipation and suspense killing both the audience and the per-formers. The Year 10 band with George as the lead vocalist came third, the Year 8 band came second, with another Year 10 band (Caroline Cape lead vocalist) coming first! When first place was an-nounced, there was a roar of applause and cheers were heard as each band member approached the stage to col-lect their £50 voucher prize!

But the evening would not have been complete without Miss Lee. As the or-ganiser of the event, she kept everyone smiling, and maintained a joyful mood. On behalf of Chiswick News and Chis-wick School- we would like to congratu-late every band who participated, and of course the winners! We hope to see you all participating next year.
