members. That means over 100 individuals who all share a common interest in musical theater and enhancing a first year or transfer student’s experience here at Syracuse. After long deliberation, The Addams Family was revealed as our 2014-2015 spring production. This musical represents the theme we believe First Year Players embodies: family. We are extremely excited for what new elements we can reach as an organization this year. The designs and creative planning for the show are original, extravagant, dark and quirky. We are so proud of the work each member has accomplished for the organization thus far and cannot wait for the cast and crew to join our little family that is FYP. “It’s family first and family last and family by and by.”
First Year Players continues to bring such a unique group of students together withtalents that vary dramatically from their majors. This organization is continuously growing. With most of the Rent cast and crew joining staff, along with seven new staff members, we are quickly approaching over 100

Team UpdatesAssistant Producing Team
• The AP Team is very happy to welcome nine new staff members, and match them up with staff mentors. The team planned various mentor/mentee activities throughout the semester.
• The AP Team organized the Find Your Place Cabaret featuring performances by members of FYP, as well as guest stars by other organizations on campus.
• FYP has participated in three Adopt-A-Streets each with different themes, Go Orange, Dress “Trashy” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and Thanksgiving.
Stage Management Team• House Manager (Melissa Ruh) designed a ghoulishly fun house for the audience to enjoy.
• Assistant House Manager (Remington Bennett) lead the team in creating the budget for the House.
• Stage Crew Head (David Peer) and Assistant Stage Crew Head (Josh Brady) geared up for their general info meetings specifically for the crew, which went wonderfully.
Art Team• The Art Team is 26 people strong.
• The Art Team was happy to help design and create FYP’s shack this year for the annual Shackathon.
• One of the team members created FYP’s design for the Mural on the Mount.
• On October 29th, FYP performed (sang and danced) a segment of “When You’re an Addams” in Halloween costumes to promote the fall workshops and stage crew meetings.
• FYPR has reconstructed and redesigned FYP’s website.
• After selling out Rent all three nights last year, FYP opened up an additional 100 seats in Goldstein Auditorium each night. FYPR is working on innovative promotion to sell out once again!
• While The Addam’s Family is an iconic piece of American culture, FYPR redesigned the logo, revolving around the idea of a family crest, because after all, FYP is just one big family.
Public Relations Team
Music Team• The Music Team has added a freshmen student accompanist to the FYPhamily.
• The Music team taught a portion of “When You’re An Addams” for the Schine performance show announcement.
• The team has had wonderful turnouts at the music workshops.
Choreography Team• The Choreo Team’s dance workshops have gone very well. The team choreographed a dance to the song Transylvania Mania (sticking in style with the Addams Family).
• The Choreo Team has choreographed 11 out of the 18 songs in the show.
• The Addam’s Family gives the Choreo Team the opportunity to incorporate different styles of dance including: hip hop, musical theater, tap, jazz, contemporary and modern.
Directing Team • The Directing Team’s main goal this year is to build a strong ensemble experience for the cast. The team has been spending a lot of time creatively thinking of ways to build this into The Addams Family. One of the main things the team has been playing with is the use of living portraits in every room of the house, adding new opportunities for the ensemble members.
• For the acting workshops this year, the team is focusing on really preparing the actors for their audition specifically for The Addams Family. This involves teaching them how to pick, practice, and perform a monologue, and showing them the tools needed to nail their audition.
• The team is now starting the staging process for the show, collaborating closely with the Art Team to solidify the set, lights, costumes, and overall vision for the show. It is an amazing process, and FYP is on their way to a one-of-a-kind production.
