Welcome Give your kids a summer experience to remember! Sask Polytech offers day camps for kids of all ages and interests. Led by enthusiastic Sask Polytech grads and other staff, our camps provide a safe, fun environment for your kids to explore new interests, discover new talents and make new friends.

Camp Descriptions

Adventures and Athletics Come out and play! Adventures and Athletics camp is all about recreational sports and activities, both indoor and outdoor. You’ll participate in everything from basketball to swimming, team building challenges, fun fitness workouts, yoga and more. They say “physical fitness is the basis for all other forms of excellence” – learn why in this high-energy camp.

Ages: 5-8; 8-11

Learning Outcomes: Building friendships and social skills, becoming and staying physical, active play.

Jr. Chef’s Academy Want to learn to cook? Here’s your chance to learn from expert instructors. It’s fun, hands-on learning in food preparation, kitchen safety and cooking techniques. You’ll build new skills, try out some tasty recipes –even take your hat and apron home so you can impress your family with your new cooking skills. NOTE: Please notify us if your child has any food allergies, and we’ll do our best to make substitutions. Children must wear closed-toed-shoes (running shoes) in the kitchen and have hair tied back.

Ages: 9-13

Chef’s Academy Want to take your cooking skills to the next level? This advanced camp starts with a review of food prep, kitchen safety and cooking techniques with our expert instructors. Then, you’ll move on up to soups, sauces and braising, recipe development, flavour layering, ethnic dishes, decoration and presentation. Of course, your hat and apron are yours to take home, along with your new skills and great recipes. NOTE: Please notify us if your child has any food allergies, and we’ll do our best to make substitutions. Children must wear closed-toed shoes (running shoes) in the kitchen and have their hair tied back.

Gearhead Automotive Get your hands dirty in this fun introduction to auto mechanics and auto body work. You’ll learn the basics of vehicle maintenance – from changing oil to changing a tire, checking fluids and jumpstarting a dead battery. You’ll also learn how to repair minor collision damage, align panels such as doors and the hood and even refinish a vehicle panel to take home at the end of the camp. NOTE: Campers are required to bring gloves, coveralls and safety glasses.

Jr. Police Academy Whether you’re just curious or keen about careers in policing, this week-long camp will show you what it takes to become a police officer – including daily physical fitness routines. You’ll also do some criminal investigation, build skills in evidence gathering and fingerprinting, practice radio communication using the phonetic alphabet and 24-hour clock and learn about special K9, Air Patrol and SWAT units.

Ages: 10-14

Minecraft© Modders Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Learn introductory coding through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. You’ll work in pairs or teams for most of the camp, and your projects will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. NOTE: You must own a Java version of Minecraft to access your projects at home. Tablet, phone and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible.

Ages: 10-14

ROBLOX® Coders and Entrepreneurs! Discover how to code in the Lua language while designing worlds in ROBLOX® online universe. This new camp combines game design concepts, coding and fun! You’ll also learn how to navigate ROBLOX’s fast-growing marketplace so you can publish your games. You’ll work in pairs or teams for most of the camp, and your projects will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. NOTE: You must own a Java version of Minecraft to access your projects at home. Tablet, phone and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible.

Ages: 8-11

Learning Outcomes: Developing resiliency and confidence, continuing education in the summer, participating in coding and STEM activities.

$10 license fee with this class, included in camp fee.

Minion’s Lab Unleash your inner Minion! This camp will introduce you the wacky and wild world of science. You’ll learn how to build a rocket, create a volcano, make ice cream, and make a homemade lava lamp. Of course, safety will be the first lesson! NOTE: Campers are required to bring safety glasses.

Young Builders Do you like to build things with your own two hands? Here’s your chance to develop real-world carpentry skills. Camp starts with a carpentry shop orientation and introduction to shop safety. Next, you’ll pick one of two projects. Guided by our skilled carpentry instructors, you’ll build your project from start to finish. At the end of the week, you can take it home to show off to family and friends. Long pants and safety glasses must be worn at all times.

Outdoor Skills Do you love nature and being outside? This is your chance to learn more about the great outdoors! In this camp, you’ll join in all kinds of activities, such as building a shelter, tying knots, identifying different trees, pants and bugs, learning about first aid and making a survival kit. We’ll also take a trip to the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo to learn about wildlife encounters and the environment.

Ages: 8-11

Learning Outcomes: Building friendships and social skills, developing resiliency and confidence, becoming and staying physical, overcoming nature deficit disorder, learning the values of leadership, active play.

Ad Executives Experience the world of advertising and social media marketing in this fun business-minded camp. In partnership with a local charity, campers will create an advertising campaign to help achieve a common goal. You’ll learn to identify a target audience, create an advertising message and build a plan for your campaign. You’ll even launch a blog and social media account to help get the word out. NOTE: Parents must complete the media consent form in order for your child to participate.

Code Breakers Calling all future coders, programmers and designers! Learn the basics of coding languages such as HTML, JavaScript and CSS through web projects and design challenges. This camp has the essentials you need to begin your journey to becoming the next tech star! You’ll work in pairs or teams for most of the camp, and your projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Bonus – returning students can build on previous camp experiences to create more advanced projects!

E-Sports Apprentice – Streamers and Gamers Not just a hobby – eSports is the fastest growing next generation career! Over 400 million people watched video game competitions last year alone. Whether you want to be the next pro gamer, streamer or gamecaster, this camp will get you started. You’ll develop competitive game-play skills in Black Rocket’s new eSports App, learn how to produce commentary for live tournaments, use professional streaming software, and (most importantly) practice online safety. You’ll have full access to the eSports App plus a video of your class tournament with commentary. Videos will not be broadcast publicly, but will be shared with students in your class.

Ages: 8-11

Battle Royale: Make Your First Fortnite Style Video Game Fans of Fortnite, we need you! Instead of playing the game, design your own. Using professional 3D game development software, build levels and assets inspired by popular battle royale games like Fortnite. The camp includes cartoonish action and battle sequences. You’ll work in pairs or teams for most of the camp, and your projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.

Ages: 10-14

Learning Outcomes: Developing resiliency and confidence, continuing education in the summer.

Frontline Health Explore frontline careers in Health Sciences. Learn how you can use amazing technology to help people as a pharmacy technician, medical laboratory or x-ray technologist. Learn how dental professionals can make impressions of your teeth. You’ll gain new understanding of the human body, learn about DNA, as well as the value of healthy lifestyle choices.

Ages: 10-14

The Art of Braiding This course is an introduction on how to braid hair, and will provide participants with an opportunity to learn more about hairstyling. They will learn a simple 3-strand braid, French braid, Dutch braid, Fishtail braid, and how to pull braids and create volume.

Ages: 9-14

How to Register

Step 1: Visit saskpolytech.ca/camps

Step 2: Find the camp along with the date and location you are interested in. Select Register and complete the following steps. Note: You will need to register and pay for each camps individually. Step 3: You will be taken to the Registration Gateway.

Information entered here is for the child that will be attending the camp. New Users: Select NEW ACCOUNT. Please remember this information for future registrations. Existing Users: Sign in with your username and password. Confirm the course and dates (in the top right corner) are correct before proceeding.

Please create a username specific to the child you are registering. Suggestion for username creation: Use first name of child and year of birth e.g. anna2010 NOTE: If you are registering more than one child, you will need to create a specific account and username for each child.

Step 4: You will be asked a series of questions before proceeding to the payment screen. A red asterisk indicates a required field, meaning you must answer in order to continue the registration process. Once your registration is complete, a confirmation of enrollment will be emailed to the address you provided during the registration process. Refund and Cancellation Policy Refunds will be issued for camp cancellations received up to 7 calendar days prior to

the first day of the camp.

You can opt to transfer the full amount to another camp. No refunds or transfers after the withdrawal deadline (7 calendar days prior to camp start date).

General Camp Information

Camp Staff

Camp staff include SaskPolytech graduates, current instructors and guest lecturers. All staff undergo a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search prior to being hired.

Location

All camps are located at Sask Polytech’s main Saskatoon campus:

1130 Idylwyld Drive North (corner of Idylwyld Dr. and 33rd Street)

First Day of Camp

Please make sure to arrive between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. The first day will be busy.

Camp Drop-off and Pick-up

A campus map is provided in this package. Please use the drop-off and pick-up point indicated on the map (Door #13).

Late Pick-ups

Camp participants must be picked up no later than 12:00 p.m. (half-day) or 5:00 p.m. (full-day).

A mandatory fee of $20.00 will be charged for all late pick-ups. This fee must be paid before the child can attend the next day’s camp session. The coordinator will issue you a notice of payment slip in these situations.

Camp Sign In/Out Policy

Each camp participant must be signed in and out each day. There will be an attendance sheet at the drop-off point.

If someone other than a parent is picking up a camper, please notify staff prior to the start of camp. Photo ID will be required for pick-up (driver’s licence, passport, etc.).

You can allow your child to self-sign out, but you must indicate this on the waiver form.

Food Allergies and Restrictions Please refrain from bringing nut products to camp. We cannot guarantee a nut-free environment on campus.

Lunch

Parents looking for all-day care should consider signing their child up for two

camps, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Lunch hour supervisor will be provided in the cafeteria.

Each child is expected to clean up after themselves.

There is no access to a refrigerator, but there are microwaves available.

Camp Rules

Behaviour Policy We want all campers to have a fun, safe and positive experience. Inappropriate behavior, such as verbal or physical bullying, will not be tolerated. All campers must follow instructions outlined by the instructors and camp staff. If there is a problem, camp staff will follow this three strike policy:

1. If there is inappropriate behaviour, a verbal warning will be issued to the camper and possibly a consequence given. The incident will be documented and the parent and camp administration will be notified.

2. If the behaviour continues, a second verbal warning will be issued. 3. If the behaviour still continues, the camper’s parent will be notified by phone and

asked to immediately pick the camper up. No reimbursement will be given. Safety At all times, campers must follow safety precautions in the kitchen/shop as well as other rules outlined by the instructors and camp staff. Dress Code

All camp participants should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes (runners). Additionally, long pants are required for the Young Builders camp.

Name tags are given to all participants. Campers must keep these on while at camp so we can easily identify which camp they are involved in.

Required Forms You will be asked to read and agree to the camp waiver during the registration process. You will also need to provide emergency contact information and sign off on the media consent form for each camp your child is enrolled in.
