From the Principal Faction Carnival Our Faction Carnival held last week was a fantastic event in which we managed to have a fine day and, as usual, the children participated with great effort and enthusiasm. Whilst the Carnival was held at Dawson Park PS this year, which posed a number of logistical challenges for us all, it was still a tremendous celebration of athletics and lots of fun. I was most impressed with the teamwork and cooperation which the children demonstrated throughout the entire day and the leadership shown by our Faction Captains and Vice Captains was superb. This, together with wonderful parent and family support, all made for a perfect day. Thank you to the team of parent volunteers who helped out on the day. Thank you also to our amazing staff for all their hard work, not only throughout the day, but also leading up to the event. Special thanks to Mr Sherlock, Mr Adamson and Mrs Oliver for coordinating and organising the whole carnival and ensuring its overall success. Congratulations to ORANGE……the winning faction for 2021. We are now hoping to conduct the Kindy/Pre Primary Carnival on Wednesday, 27 October. Our Interschool Carnival will be held at Edney Primary School tomorrow Friday, 17 September. Good luck to all our athletes who are competing. Arts Festival This week, we also celebrated Visual Arts with an outstanding Arts Festival conducted by the Darling Range Learning Community at Darling Range Sports College. Each of the network primary schools and the high school contributed childrens art for a wonderful exhibition. The work displayed provided an opportunity for the children to showcase the many different forms of art that they create each and every day during their Visual Arts lessons. This included using a range of artist styles, mediums and skills. The Visual Arts curriculum supports children's ability to recognise and develop cultural appreciation of visual arts from the past and contemporary years through exploring and responding to artists and their artworks. Congratulations to all the children for their beautiful art work and thank you to the wonderful effort of our visual arts teachers, Mrs Brayford and Mrs Agar, for all their work in preparation for this festival. Science Equipment Grant and Playground Equipment Grant The school has been very fortunate to have received a Science Equipment Grant of $40 000 from the government as part of its commitment to boost science resources in public schools. This will be a tremendous contribution to the purchasing of science equipment and materials to our school. Science is a focus area for the school and having a range of resources will certainly improve the teaching and learning of science across the school. Additionally, the school has also received a further $50 000 as part of the commitments made by the government in the 2021 election. This grant is for the installation of additional playground equipment and is certainly greatly appreciated. The school will therefore be adding 2 Volley Ball Courts for the middle and senior school students and two sets of monkey bars for the K/PP students. 16 September 2021 The Official Newsletter of Wattle Grove Primary School Term 3, Issue 14 T: 9237 6600 Julie Roberts Principal September 16 Science Maths Competition 17 Interschool Carnival 21 STEM Learning Journey 24 Assembly Rooms 23 & 34 24 LAST DAY OF TERM 3 Early close every Tuesday at 2.30pm School Security 1800 177777 9264 4771 9264 4632 October 11 First day of Term 4

PHYS ED

The school distributes and collects booklists from children in November/December each year for student requirements for the following year. Our bookseller collates the order and delivers it either to home address or they are collected directly from the book seller. Books/stationery items MUST be paid for by parents prior to delivery. Whilst parents are not obliged to use this system, it does provide our school with a commission to spend on facilities for the children. This is also an excellent time to pay the school contribution payment.

BOOKLISTS

MONEY AND QKR APP

Money can be paid on the QKR App for incursions/excursions, class activities or school programs as well for paying Voluntary Contributions. Qkr payments for Voluntary Contributions for more than one child in the family have the option to pay the ‘family’ discount against one child, e.g. James Edwards with two siblings $135.00 OR the discounted cost per child e.g. $45.00 each for three children. Alternatively, money paid to the school for incursions/excursions, class activities or school programs must be sent in a sealed envelope, clearly marked with the child’s name, class, amount and purpose, along with the permission slip, signed and dated and given to the class teacher.

Mathematics and Science is all around us, and Wattle Grove Primary School is committed to supporting our children to develop the skills and knowledge needed to apply their skills in their everyday lives. Our STEM Learning Journey next week, will showcase. all the learning that has been taking place in these areas throughout the term.

In Week 7, Wattle Grove P.S. held their Faction Carnival. On Wednesday students participated in long distance running, long jump and turbo javelin throwing. These events and the Division A Race on Friday, were used to de-cide the individual championships. Friday was the main carnival day, with students running in age division races and team games. Being offsite provided some extra challenges, however, the students are to be commended on their behaviour, sportsmanship and leadership. At the end of the day, there could only be one winner, and that was Orange. Many thanks to all the teachers, students and the amazing parent support. Science and Numeracy Week

This week, Wattle Grove Primary School has been celebrating all things Science and Numeracy. Classes have had the opportunity to compete in daily problem solving challenges where children are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge to solve some very tricky problems. Family Maths Challenges have also been sent home with all children. We encourage all families to complete the challenges together and discuss the mathematics that is involved. Don’t forget to return your entry to the front office by, Friday 17 September for the opportunity to win some great prizes.

Mini Science experiments have also been happening in each classroom throughout the week. Children have also had the opportunity to complete Science Challenges to be in the running to win fun prizes.

This past week, Room 11, 17 and 25 had an assembly about PEMDAS. For our wow writing, our classes had written an ANZAC recount letter as if we were all in World War 1. For our assembly we wore 90’s grunge outfits. We practiced for our assembly only about one week but we had a lot of fun. Some students got a chance to speak but some unfortunately didn’t. We sang a rap about PEMDAS and it helped us learn more about the order of operations. P stands for parenthesis or brackets E stands for exponents or indices M stands for multiplication D stands for division A stands for addition S stands for subtraction If you want to listen to this rap, click this hyperlink. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzeDWFhYv3Ehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzeDWFhYv3E Since we are all year sixes, this will be our last assembly that we can host so who ever watched our assembly, we hope you enjoyed it

JUNIOR ASSEMBLY

Room 13, 21 and 27 On 10th of September, Room 13, 21 and 27 hosted the final senior assembly for Term Three. The three classes presented information about the importance of science and how to follow the scientific method when conducting an investigation. All of the students did such a great job and should be extremely proud of themselves. They all remembered their lines, performed their actions and sang loudly and clearly. We are sure they will never forget how to conduct an investigation after learning their extremely catchy song! Thank you to all of the parents and family members for all of the time and effort put into helping us with our assembly preparation. The students looked fantastic in their scientist costumes. We hope you all enjoyed watching our assembly as much as we enjoyed performing for you all. Thank you Miss Lamb, Ms O’Hart and Miss Gibbons

up. Please go through the safety procedures with your children so they know what to do if they see a snake. This has been talked about in class so the students
