The pink notification boxes indicate howmany assignments have been set by theteacher and on which game. If you clickon the assignments box at the top of themenu, you can see all of theassignments together.

To get to the Spelling Shed games, clickon Spelling Shed and you will see ascreen that looks like this.

This screen shows the assignments thathave been set by the teacher. Theassignments link to games that includethe words that need to be learnt orpracticed. The icons or badges on theassignments show different achievementlevels and are an incentive for thechildren to play more and aim for the toplevel. They are also a quick way forteachers to see how well they can spellthe words in the lists.

When you click on an assignment, youwill see three game options that looklike this.

When completing an assignment, youmust use one of the first two gameoptions, Playing the bonus games willnot contribute towards the setassignment.

Play

When you click ‘Play’, four difficultyoptions will appear.

Easy - You will be shown the word aswell as hearing it and you will only seethe letters you need to spell it.Medium - You can listen to the wordand you will only have the letters youneed.Hard - You can listen to the word butyou will have a few extra letters addedExtreme - You will hear the word andyou have a full keyboard of lettersThese levels of difficulty apply to solo and hive games. Games completed on easier levels will givethe player a lower score and lower ranking. The teacher will be able to see which levels have beenchosen for each game.

This is what the game looks like on theExtreme level.

The word can be typed using akeyboard or clicked with a mouse andyou can use the ‘enter’ key or the greentick to submit the word. If you are usingthe game on a tablet, the letters can betapped and the green tick used tosubmit the word.

Hive Games

Hive games are a multiplayer version ofthe spelling game above. You can invitefriends or classmates to play againstyou using the number that appearswhen you start a Hive game. PlayingHive games will also contribute to setassignments. This is what the screenwill look like when you start a Hivegame, there is no limit to how manypeople can join but you have to givethem the joining code to be able toparticipate.

Alternatively, you can join a friend’sHive game by clicking the menu buttonin the top left corner and clicking ‘JoinHive Game’. Enter the Code and clickdone and you should automatically join.

Bonus Games

Beekeeper is a Hangman-style gamewhere you have to guess the letters ofa word before you lose all of the bees.The less wrong letters you choose, themore bees you save.

In the Missing word game, you have toselect the correct word to fill in the gap inthe sentence.The Easy level gives you two wordoptions, Medium gives you four wordoptions, Hard gives you letter options tospell the word and Extreme gives you afull keyboard.

Buzz Words

The Buzz words game gives you arandom selection of letters and you haveto spell as many different words as youcan within the time limit. There are twodifferent levels for this game. On the easylevel, you can use any of the letters givento spell a word in any order whereas theHard level only lets you create wordsusing letters that are next to each other.

Scoring and Honey Pots

When playing any of the spelling Shedgames, a score and honey pots will beawarded depending how well you havedone.The score you build will add to differentspelling shed leagues meaning each childcan compete with each other in a class,different classes can compete with eachother in a school and each schoolcompetes against other schools in theworld leagues. The leagues can be seenby clicking the menu button on the top leftof the screen.

Honey pots can be used to buy clothes, accessories and backgrounds for your avatar. Teachersare able to add or remove honey pots for each user. Some teachers use Honey Pots as rewardsfor good behaviour in the classroom.
