Attendance
As you know the school has an automatic school gate that closes at 8.35am. The automatic gates are
there to keep our students safe. Students are expected to be on the school premises before the school
gate closes and they expected to be lined up outside their lesson one room just before 8.45am.
The vast majority of our students are punctual and this is, in part, due to the support we receive from
parents/carers. A small number of students have been arriving late, which means they are joining lesson
one late and interrupting the learning of others.
As a school we are determined that teaching and learning goes on without unnecessary interruptions. We
also believe that been punctual to school is an important life lesson, which we endeavour to instil in our
students.
There are many reasons why students have been late to school. The most frequent reasons given by
students for been late to school include :-
Over slept
Dropping off younger siblings
Having breakfast at subway or going to Tesco’s
Traffic
Whatever the reason for been late the consequence, for the student, is that they miss out on learning and
by joining a class late interrupt the learning of others, which is not acceptable. Fortunately this is the
minority of students at KESA. However, we are determined to have NO lates and no interruptions and I
therefore ask all Parents/Carers to support us in our efforts.
Thank you,
Shaun Ibbitson

Year 7 – Mrs Stonach
Attendance form of the week last week goes to 7W for a fantastic attendance of 99.2% - well done them!
On the whole however, attendance for year 7 has fallen this week and I am keen to stress the importance
of pupils being in as much as possible. I understand that there are a few bugs going around at the
moment, but most pupils are fine to stay in school with the odd cough or sniffle.
Student of the week last week went to Max Dixon for collecting the most vivos. Well done to Max and
everyone on the top 10 list.
Form achievement of the week this week is awarded to 7A – well done everyone and keep up the hard
work.
Yesterday 95 yr7 pupils went on a trip to London to see the Railway Children at King’s Cross Theatre. It was a really good adaptation and the pupils really enjoyed themselves – well worth a visit for any fan.

Year 9 – Mrs Cole Last week's guest appearance is repeated again this week. It was great to see a larger than average attendance at parent's evening on Thursday night. There was a real buzz around the main hall. It is always heartening to see so such support from parents towards our young learners. If you were unable to make parents evening, and would like to see someone about your child's progress, then please e-mail Mrs Cole [email protected] or Mr Barker Congratulations to this weeks achievement top 10. Year 8 – Mrs Lees
We are at the mid point of this term already, and year 8 students are still displaying a solid work ethic and energy for their studies, which has really been reflected in their reports we sent home last week. Well done Year 8. Please do be in touch if you have any queries about reports. [email protected] or our Academic Standards Leader Mr Chung [email protected]. ATTENDANCE “Attendance Matters, Every Day Counts” We really do need to strive for improvement with Year 8 attendance, which currently stands at 93.8% (School target is 96%). If you feel your child needs support we can arrange an Attendance Support Meeting to look at strategies.
TOP 10 VIVO AWARDS THIS WEEK
Year 10 – Mr Waring Our whole year group attendance figure dropped slightly last week achieving a figure of 95.5%. Our top performing form class managed to achieve an attendance figure of 98.3% and that was class 10E. However it was very close this week as 10G achieved a figure of 98.2%. Well done both classes.
With regards to behaviour, there is a lot more emphasis being paid towards those students who are doing the right things; working hard, politeness and making good decisions. I am pleased to say Year 10 students are excelling at this and there are very few negative behaviours that I need to deal with. However, there are two areas where as parents you can help with, namely homework and detentions.
Do ask your children about homework, check they have they completed it and put it in their bag so they don’t forget to hand it in on time. With your support and encouragement in this matter, together we can reduce the number of incidents by some 16% in this year group and that would be an amazing achievement, but we can only do it with your help please.
Failure to complete and hand in homework on time, can lead to detentions. But the issue is further exacerbated when students fail to turn up for detentions and will often come back with, “I was not told” or “nobody reminded me”. If a student receives a detention, you will be informed about it. Do please remind and insist your child attends all detentions, as your help in this matter can and will make our year group even better than it already is with fewer negative behaviour incidents being recorded.
Congratulations go to Erin Taylor, and Lily Smith received the languages stars of the week award. Whilst
Amy Thompson and Eivydas Kriunas were voted our star students in PE for last week, well done to each
of you.
What a fantastic week it has been as far as the collection of positive vivo points is concerned. A huge well done to Laura Brivkaine-Tamilova (affectionately known as Laura BT) for all the effort she has put in over the last few weeks and is rewarded with top spot by a clear 35 positive points you truly should be proud.

Year 11 - Mr Ibbitson (standing in for Mrs Wright)
Year 11 students have been increasingly active in acquiring their Unique Pupil Numbers (UPN) and
logging on to “Help you choose” to complete the application process for their next steps after Year 11 i’e’ college or apprenticeship or sixth form. Most students are already doing this. Can I ask Parents/Carers to
check with your son/daughter that they are doing this as time is passing and it is vital that this is done to
be able to secure places in the future?I know that Mrs Spindler is helping some students in C10 to log on
and complete the process.
Mock exams are nearly complete. Students will get their results on the 13th December during period 6.
The current Yr 11 attendance figures show that 11A is top, at the moment, with 97.2%. In second place
with 96.1% is 11K and in third place with 95.5% is 11N. These are good figures and bode well with
students in those seminar groups more likely to fulfil their academic potential. I would encourage other
groups to catch up and, at least match, the current top three. We also have 60 students with 99% or
better attendance and 45 with 100%. These figures will look great on a CV.
The current achievement points totals are as follows:-
Madog Hendey 11A 332 points
Vincent Rees 11R 330
Agnieszka Maciak 11E 325
Jackson Booker 11N 287
Amy Yau 11R 285
Rebecca Miller 11K 280
Katie Bunting 11N 276
Louis Chong 11D 267
Naomi Tann 11R 260
Maria Marques 11N 255
The top three achieving Year 11 groups are:-
In 1st place with 5096 points is 11N
In 2nd place with 4066 points is 11A
In 3rd place with 3233 points is 11R

All year 11 students should now have received their UPN and the 'you choose' booklets. This will allow
them to log on and make applications for next year. Please can you encourage your son/daughter to do
this as soon as possible. Help is available during seminar time with Mrs Spindler and should be booked
through seminar tutors.
School Nurse
The school nurse is available every week for any health and welfare concerns students may have.
Students can find Mel Easter on Wednesday 4b lunch time in the Medical Room.
Diploma news
Students have been working hard on various charity appeals. This week there is no one student of the
week. Instead I would like to commend every student in year 7 and 8 who have given their time to helping
others. You are all amazing!
