Thank you for all you do for us… Keep being you and thank you to you and all the team looking after us all Stay safe.
Welcome to the first Year 9 Distance Learning Bulletin.
I hope that you are all safe and well and that you had a restful break.
From my conversations with both students and parents I know that having structure to the
day has made the independent learning easier for all concerned, so this will be an ongoing
feature in the bulletin. In this edition I will share the breakdown of work for each subject
that your child should be completing in the first three weeks of this module. The
‘suggested timetable’ previously shared on the Distance Leaning website has also been
included. I have also provided key information about the different types of support that are
available to you and your child.
Finally, the part which has given me the greatest pleasure whilst collating, is sharing some
of the students’ work and celebrating their successes.

Hi Folks,
Over the next few weeks you might be seeing younger and older brothers and sisters
starting back to school and you might be feeling a bit left out. You may want to return to
school, or you might be feeling a bit stressed as you feel it will be your turn to return to
school soon, and you are worried about this. My advice to you is to stop and take a
deep breath in slowly and let it out slowly and start to think about why you are worried
and what it is that you are scared of. Once you know what you are worried and stressed
about, talk to your parents/carers about it, as sharing your concerns will help you get it
into perspective and help make it seem more manageable. If you are still struggling and
want to talk to someone who is not family, you can email me and I will try to catch up
with you for a chat. [email protected]. There are also
resources you can read or activities you can complete on the Wellbeing Google
Classroom, the code to join this is wcakjp4.
So, enjoy the time you have left at home as your turn will come eventually. Get out and
take some exercise each day and keep up with your schoolwork online. This will help
you to keep focused. Remember, I am here to help.

Community Spirit We are continuing to celebrate the excellent community spirit shown by our staff and students throughout lockdown, as we all work together to ensure the communities we live in are safe and well during this difficult time. Our staff at Wilmington Academy have been doing some amazing things during lockdown, alongside their responsibilities as teachers, parents and partners, and we wanted to share some of their stories with you: • Mrs Govender and her mum have been sewing large laundry bags for the staff at Darent
Valley Hospital. • Mr Staunton has donated blood during lockdown and has become an NHS volunteer
responder. • Sarah Lings has made scrubs, scrubs bags, headbands and woollen hearts for Darent
Valley Hospital. • Miss Austin-Williams has joined a Facebook group called ‘Random Act of Kindness’ which
has been set up to send gifts to random strangers to give them a much needed ‘pick me up’ during lockdown. So far, she has sent 4 different people gifts: an A&E nurse a relaxation face mask; a stressed mum a bar of chocolate; a dog toy for someone’s new puppy; a bottle of wine to a mum of four children.
Congratulations to everyone for all your amazing work, and
contributions to the wider community. I feel a huge sense of pride to be
a part of the Wilmington family.
