Dr. Imants Barušs is a professor of psychology at King's University College at Western University Canada, where he has been teaching undergraduate courses about consciousness for 29 years. His research has been focused on the fundamental nature of consciousness, and he has had academic papers published not only in consciousness journals, but also in psychology, philosophy, physics, mathematics, anthropology, and other science journals. He is the author of five previous books, including Authentic Knowing: The Convergence of Science and Spiritual Aspiration and Alterations of Consciousness: An Empirical Analysis for Social Scientists.

Dr. Julia Mossbridge is an experimental psychologist and cognitive neuroscientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences and a Visiting Scholar in Psychology at Northwestern University. She pursues an understanding of time, especially in terms of the relationships between conscious and nonconscious processing of events. In 2014, she received the Charles Honorton Integrative Contributions award for her work in bringing the phenomenon of presentiment to the mainstream. Dr. Mossbridge is the author of Unfolding: The Science of Your Soul s Work and the upcoming mystical/philosophical adventure The Garden: An Inside Experiment.

Everyone knows that consciousness resides in the brain. Or does it? In this book, Imants Barušs and Julia Mossbridge utilize findings from quantum mechanics, special relativity, philosophy, and paranormal psychology to build a rigorous, scientific investigation into the origins and nature of human consciousness. Along the way, they examine the scientific literature on concepts such as mediumship, out-of-body and near-death experiences, telekinesis, "apparent" vs. "deep time," and mind-to-mind communication, and introduce eye-opening ideas about our shared reality. The result is a revelatory tour of the "post-materialist" world and a roadmap for consciousness research in the twenty-first century.

The Self Does Not Die is a trailblazing effort to present the most confirmed cases of consciousness beyond death ever compiled. In these cases, the authors have gone back to the original sources, the people involved in each case, whenever possible, rather than relying on secondhand sources. In so doing, they have assembled a unique collection of empirical data that any scholar worthy of the name must take into account.

This book contains over 100 reliable, often firsthand accounts of perceptions during NDEs that were later verified as accurate by independent sources. These near-death experiencers were everyday people from all over the world—many of whom were clinically dead, unable to see or hear, and yet able to perceive new vistas of a world beyond the senses and even beyond death.

With Thomas Rabeyron, he co-founded in 2009 the Center for Information, Research and Counselling on Exceptional Experiences (www.circee.org). He is a member of several societies of anomalistics and parapsychology, member of the Board of Directors of the Parapsychological Association, as well as one of the Association’s officers, serving in the capacity of Secretary.

Ectoplasm at the Sorbonne? Pierre Curie ready to teach parapsychology to the general psychological institute after his study of the medium Eusapia Palladino? France on top of the world parapsychology during the Roaring Twenties?

To establish a science of the mind, the first French psychologists felt that there was so much to learn from trances, somnabulists, automatic writings and sitings of ghosts. Psychology remains forever marked by this journey through the intricacies of the psyche. It was only later that parapsychology was divorced from psychology, the cause of the separation attributed to the supposed pseudo-scientific nature of this exploration of human potential. Thus divided, the parapsychology of the twentieth century gradually drove its legend to better recognition as a science, while still hardly to escape the persistent return of controversy.

The book lets you walk alongside ten outstanding researchers, including Nobel laureates Pierre Curie and Charles Richet, as you discover one of the dark sides of the history of French science. Drawing on academic research, consulting specialized archives as well as the descendants of researchers, this study traces 150 years of a French parapsychology so as to provide a better understanding of the scientific investigation of the paranormal.
