What Are MUN Papers?
Resolutions:➢ What you WANT other countries to do
○ International proposal○ Countries sign on → they agree to actions
Position Papers:➢ What your country’s POLICY is
○ What your country has done○ What your country plans to do

What All Do I Have to Do?
Position Papers:➢ MUST do 3 papers on all 3 topics
Resolutions:➢ MUST do resolution for at least 2/3 topics
○ Can do up to 3 on all 3 topics
Committees:➢ 3 topics per committee➢ Everyone submit papers on 3 topics (except General)

Position Paper Dos and Don’ts
DO DON’T1. Read your Topic Guides!
2. Look up both international AND national legislation on the issue3. Use statistics and quotes from national leaders
4. Discuss past, present, AND future actions
5. If you can’t find a coherent position → look up what your allies do (or find similar issues and connect the dots)6. Think outside the box
7. Answer the Questions to Consider directly
1. Turn it into an argumentative paper
2. Make it straight facts
3. Underestimate the power of showing your knowledge on the topic4. Be ethnocentric
5. Say one thing in your position paper and another in your resolution
6. Get discouraged if you can’t find a ton of info
